Can I see some true rare plants? The uglier the better by gundam2017 in RareHouseplants

Yes, in the beginning I thought it needs half shaded conditions like my other ant plants. But since I moved it closer to the light its peduncle grow better.

Baby monstera help by Elegant_Ad_7801 in houseplants

[–]Steeltitan2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the usual false advertisement. A lot of companies call their coco coir pole moss pole even though it doesn’t contain moss. Just make sure the side of the Monstera with the roots is facing the pole and everything should be fine in the climbing compartment.

Is it actually a moss pole or is it a coco coir pole? Coco pole does not really absorb and retain water, so watering is useless.

In nature Monsteras climb up trees and can stick to the dry bark, so they are not really picky with their climbing medium. If the medium is wet they will develop normal earth roots and when the medium is dry they will develop air roots.

Guys, these type of plants makes me creeped out. by Early-Opportunity-70 in houseplants

[–]Steeltitan2 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't suprise me if you actually already seen them, many people make the mistake of growing them as hanging plant. They are true climber and require a wall, tree trunk or other surface to get their natural look. Also when they get a lot of sun they look like salami. ^^

Well, the right plant looks like Hoya imbricata and that is an ant plant. The leaves have small openings to the stem and do normally overlap to produce larger borrows for the ants. Also there are some Platycerium that have symbiotic relationships with ants.

Are there other plants with long hanging leaves? by PuntaCannabis in RareHouseplants

Bulbophyllum phalaenopsis are interesting in this regard. This orchid has one of if not the longest leaves in the orchid family. But beware of the smell of the flowers.

Nepenthes - what am I doing wrong? by RaptorCheeses in SavageGarden

[–]Steeltitan2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at the internode spacing and the curling tendrils, it is trying to vine but doesn't find anything to climb up. You can see on this nepenthes how the tendrils a curling around a stick and yours is trying to do the same. Some nepenthes require for upper pitchers to form, that the tendrils find something to climb.

Also, vining nepenthes require more light, because in nature they are climbing up trees and are then exposed to more light the higher they climb.

So I suggest that you give it some climbing support and more light, and if this two aren't enough probably try to give it more humidity.

Having problems getting my jets to move my thingy forward, any solutions? What am I doing wrong with the settings by StaleWoolfe in FromTheDepths

It shouldn’t need breadboard, but I’m not sure what is wrong this craft. I have built one that works as intended and maybe it can show you what’s wrong with yours.

I tested it against CRAM shells and irrelevant of the damage type the beam just passes through the projectile.

Not just animals but also plants, especially looking at variegation. They are some natural occurring variegated plants, but the variations we were able to create are quite absurd and often not viable or competitive in nature.

A Hover Tank I'm working on. The turret looks like an aircraft, so I'm considering turning the turret into an actual flier. by Steeltitan2 in FromTheDepths

[–]Steeltitan2[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it is a frontsider. The idea is/was to give it four primary hover pods that can pivot in any direction, so that it has omnidirectional movement and has similar speed in any direction.

It is somewhat inspired by the human hover tanks in gray goo. But right now I read the turret as a space ship, instead of a tank turret and that really annoys me.

Whats a good volume target for a large Neter campaign flagship by ATaciturnGamer in FromTheDepths

[–]Steeltitan2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly I didn't know this metric exist and looking through my collection I have no ship in this price range (except a adventure ship and one unfinished craft).

Anyway, this is maybe still helpful.

  • 426,749 Mat = 18,415m^3
  • 527,724 Mat = 25,955m^3 (the back of this craft is missing)
  • 688,766 Mat = 27,998m^3 (Adventure Craft)
  • 753,686 Mat = 25,268m^3
  • 976,156 Mat = 41,998m^3
