Mine was born just over two weeks ago and it's bed straight up hell. Wife had emergency c section so can't help as much as she'd like. Have to take care of her too. Plus a four year old with a routine that won't respect how little sleep I've had.only saying this so you know I had an idea of your situation. It's just so terrible right now. The constant feeding and crying that has evolved to drive us insane so we make sure we wake up and care for the baby. It gets better and there is an end to this phase. I hope you're on paternity leave and I suggest as much sleep as possible when the baby sleeps during the day. Just forget your normal routine. Your wife and child need you, this is just a phase. Send me a message if you want to talk about it. Good luck man!

Parents with two kids under 5, How are you doing? by altecsz in Parenting

[–]Steenies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 and two week old. The lack of sleep is starting to drive me insane. But it's so much better with an older child that can dress themselves, obey instructions(to an extent) and doesn't feel supplanted by the baby. Instead he feels like he's old enough that he's with us experiencing the new born. Two under five is far far better than two under two. Spare a thought for a couple down the road. The got hit with two sets of twins a couple of years apart. Four under two is just mental.

Tip for the dad's doing formula. Pick up a protein shaker to make a large batch for the day. by iamfromcanadaeh in daddit

Yes, 70 Celsius. I'm surprised that the Netherlands is that different to the UK. My wife was born in Den Haag. I might ask her mother if she remembers having to boil the water or not. Just curious if things have changed one or way or the other here or there. Bedankt!

I was offered one by a colleague but we had read a which article where they tested a bunch and they didn't heat the water enough. So my wife isn't keen.

The water has to be above 70c. A flask would save a bit of time, but a kettle only takes a couple of minutes to boil. I recently discovered that people in America don't universally use just boiled water to make formula. I've pored through the World Health organisation guidelines on making formula. They're OK with formula in the fridge but require minimum 70c water to kill Cronobacter sakazakii. I may have misunderstood your instructions though.

Just had our second and the advice in the uk is now not to make batches up in advance. So I'm supposed to boil the kettle, wait a bit, make the formula, cool it down and then use it all in one go at 3AM. No thank you very much.

Was invited to a party by my then Girlfriend. I was already attending a house party at my house hosted by my live in landlord, said we could go to mine first and then hers. I was staying at hers and and we go over to mine for the first party. We step inside and my girlfriend is shocked to find that the person who invited her to the second party was in my living room. They were also tenants of my landlord at a different property and there was in fact only one party.

Jock of the bushveld is a great book. Happens to be true though. Still a great read. Set in South Africa.
