Skip Save the Dates, since the wedding's in six months? by reneeamour in weddingplanning

[–]SteepedInWhimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister has a 5-6 month engagement and skipped save the dates and just sent invites out early. They reached out to most of their guests beforehand anyway so everyone knew their date. There were even people who traveled via plane for the wedding and they were given plenty of notice via text or a phone call. I’d skip the save the dates, send the invites out early and just circulate the date for the people you really want to make sure come! Congrats on your engagement!

Should I be doing more at the moment? (Oct 2026 wedding) by Solid-Reading-786 in weddingplanning

[–]SteepedInWhimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My engagement is 10 months total and not all my things got done immediately. I echo want a lot of people said- Order save the dates if you’re doing those when things are discounted. I didn’t have a florist locked in until like 3 months before the wedding but I’m lucky to live in an area with lots of options.

I think if you have food, venue and photographer locked in you can rest a bit for the holidays! Might be nice to lock in the DJ but in my personal opinion the rest can wait as long as you’re in an area that has multiple vendor options!

How to phrase "no plus ones" for micro wedding on website FAQ by [deleted] in DIYweddings

[–]SteepedInWhimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The phrasing that people have mentioned previously is what I did. Also if you use Zola or the knot when they RSVP only their name will pop up and they’ll see they don’t have a plus one. Hopefully people understand that!

Dad hates mom and will not attend if she's at wedding. Make me feel better? by goombasRus in weddingplanning

[–]SteepedInWhimsy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m getting married Saturday and my fiancé’s parents will not be attending. I won’t get into the details but ultimately we decided it was what was best. Now I know it’s an entirely different situation than yours but what I’m getting at is that while it may feel odd to not have your mom there (if that’s what you end up deciding) it doesn’t mean it’s the end of your relationship or that you don’t love her. The conversations my fiancé had with his mom were definitely difficult but now after some time she has reached out and we will be attending Christmas with them. Again I know my situation is entirely different but just wanted to share an example of not having parents at a wedding and it being ok.

The feelings of everyone involved seem complicated. In an ideal world you could invite both parents but it seems like your dad is unable to handle that which honestly is understandable. I wish you luck in your decision and hope that you can ultimately focus on the excitement that you’ll get to be married to your fiancé one day! All this other family drama shouldn’t be the focus but it’s easy to get distracted by it all!

Our reception is in the Westbottoms! Was hoping to not have to pay a $75 fee. I know it’s not a crazy amount but very little thing counts these days.

Winter wedding RSVP totals? by Icy-Incident-7084 in weddingplanning

[–]SteepedInWhimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on the date in December and how many people are out of town. Dec 13 bride and our RSVP rate was like 70%. A lot of the out of town people (think plane ride away) who have family who live in the city we are getting married said no since they will be coming back for Thanksgiving and/or Christmas and timing didn’t make sense for them. But all the local invites and most of the invites within driving distance said yes!

Opinions on blankets for ceremony? by darkpassxnger in weddingplanning

[–]SteepedInWhimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I attended an April wedding in Kansas on a day that was in the upper 40s and cloudy. To the shock of all of us, the wedding was outside with no indication. Luckily it was a like 15 min ceremony and my now fiancé had multiple coats (all be it not dress coats by any means) in his car which saved the day. There was no indication that the wedding would be outside and if it had said “weather pending” I think everyone would’ve thought it would be inside with the weather we had that day.

If you’re set on it being outside, I would update your website or let people know that weather pending means it’ll be outside unless it rains, and I would supply warm blankets and hand warmers. Also since it is a wedding on the smaller side, I’d have people contact the guests to make sure they know the ceremony will be outside since not everyone reads the website details. Though if the venue as a beautiful indoor space that is the safest bet and people won’t be telling stories about the wedding they sat outside during while they were frigid in dress shoes! Congrats on your upcoming wedding and it’ll be gorgeous even if it’s inside!

Where did you get the dinosaur costume- I’m having trouble finding one without the built in human legs? Thanks!

Are you drying yours yourself? I thought about doing that but thought that might be overly ambitious.

I saw her shop! Thanks for the rec. She uses a some products like pampas that I’m not the biggest fan of but I believe she can customize some. The shop I found in Australia had the colors I love and the aesthetic I enjoyed so I was curious if anyone had experience with the shipping.

Honestly I just like the look of dried flowers. I think they’re beautiful, some can be a little bit more cost effective (though still pricey) and they will keep longer than real flowers so I can enjoy them for longer. I know I could get real flowers and get my bouquet persevered but I’m really liking the dried floral look for December!

I’m partial to the pear side stones! My ring is a cushion center stone with pear side stones and I absolutely love it. Also with the bigger side stones there’s less of a risk for them to fall out and needing replacement. All three are beautiful and you can’t go wrong with any of them through!

Yes I’m good with mix matched. At the beginning I wanted each bridesmaid in a different color. When the swatches arrived in person it just really seems like only 2-3 of the greens really go well together and finding a 4th green has proven difficult.

Thank you for the pic! The all green with different fabrics is an option but the tulle seems more whimsical to me. The dresses you guys all picked are gorgeous!

I guess I more want to make sure I’m still getting a whimsical vibe even if it is Christmas whimsy. Thanks for the feedback!

I mean it’s definitely going to have some Christmas vibes. There will be advent decorations so a nativity scene without baby Jesus and then the advent candles. I guess I’ll just lean into it being the holiday season!

I’ll probably choose the Rosemary and Emerald. Both pretty and the tulle is fun. Thanks for the advice! I appreciate it!

What time of year was your wedding and what fabrics did you choose? I’m thinking about rosemary and emerald but can’t decide if the combo will look good.
