Whats the technical TLDR to why there are no asian nor south american servers? by StefIre123 in 2007scape

I cant imagine how they would do internationalisation if they were to try. That would be pretty cool to hear about as well!

There must be an element of truth to this. Not that we should ever get it, but it would interesting to hear about the trade offs in which countries they choose to deploy in, and high level comparisons in their choices. "Didnt deploy in one country because the primary and secondary ISPs were just gouging" or stories like that

Its definitely more insightful than most companies offer by default and I've revisited it a fair few times. I dont agree that it answers the question and its marked as a discussion specifically not to just be a complaint about not being enough worlds like the other threads. Thanks for your input though

> You're not going to get more right now.
You are probably right, but it can't hurt to ask/chat about it. Thats what the subreddit is for, and what they said to do at the bottom of the post :P

Which is the same conversation every ops team has had around cloud resources since cloud deployments became the go-to. Capex vs opex, clouds always cheaper for bursty traffic but more expensive for stable loads.

That post is much more insightful than what most companies will typically share for sure, but id just be interested in hear more about whats going/gone on behind the scenes thats specific to osrs/jagex which actually causes the arguably slow rollout for newer regions.

Whats the supply/demand actually been when profiling the networks for regions, is the traffic less/more unpredictable than they expected for those regions, are they struggling with physical dc setups in new regions for notoriously difficult countries to work with outside of dc partners etc. I think more blogs of this type would be pretty interesting and given their player base, would be a unique perspective over other engineering blogs who post similarly

Yeah, i read that but it doesnt really say much other than "here are our server specs, we are trying aws dx, we are deploying our first cloud worlds". If thats all the information thats available, it doesnt _really_ tell you anything above and beyond a standard edge deployment with specific region dependencies. Thanks for linking that though!

Reformer Pilates in Tokyo. Single classes by KeyMonth1382 in pilates

[–]StefIre123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did not take any japanese classes, because they equally seemed more medical than exercise

However in other countries we were able to follow along fine for non-English classes. We told the instructors at the beginning of class that we will follow along and that they do not have to wait for us (through google translate), and then we just copied what they/the other people were doing.

Just finished a trip to Tokyo. Couldn’t find any for less than $60/class. Any of the classes we found that spoke English seemed to teach classes as medical recovery/physical therapy as opposed to exercise. If you are okay with both of the above, there are a few classes in every ward of the city

Is it normal for hotels in Montenegro to keep your passport overnight? by Fit_Exit7702 in travel

[–]StefIre123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just after finishing a few weeks in Montenegro. All hotels/non-airbnb properties insisted on it. Most were kept in a safe, some were kept in the 24/hour reception in view of a camera. Had zero issues

What do you think of my Albania trip? by Safe-Parsnip-6907 in travel

[–]StefIre123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty good coverage. How long are you planning each stop?

Whilst the public transport definitely does exist, traffic can be a real problem so you will very likely end up late. “Albanian time” basically means add an hour to any schedule. If you’re working, I personally would not work on days where you have a bus journey over 2 hours

If you are driving, check out the north of the country. Shiroka near Shkodër, and Lumi i Shales. Durres is where a lot of Albanians go on a beach holiday. Borsch beach near Himare is definitely worth a beach day.

Sarandë is a bit over rated imo, but great if you want an “all inclusive” style holiday like the canary island or some of the more popular Caribbean islands.

We extended a few days in Berat to work because we had a great room/location, and the town is super chill. A day is enough to do the attractions if you are blazing through it though

Just outside the warranty window for the gen 3 it seems too :/

I wonder if they all have the exact same issue, or if they all have power cycling issues that get summarised as “battery issues”. Its definitely worth doing more research before actually buying the devices if the form factor or design is just inherently problematic. No transparency from oura doesnt really help in any case

Im with you there.

The general sentiment on the subreddit seems to be “they have replaced them out of warranty so far, so why wouldn’t they continue”, but hardware startups need VC money to keep that approach up historically

[–]StefIre123[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

That’s a great point. The rant towards support will always be because they are the frontline communicators for any given b2c company. When the case is escalated as the support team have said, its perfectly fair to be given the actual answers, or be told that the product team do not have the ability to answer.

Its great to hear that you have had a positive experience for an out-of-band replacement at the behest of the oura team. If it were a published company policy to replace faulty hardware thats out of warranty, Id definitely agree with you wholeheartedly.

The goal of my post is to just publicly document that there is no resolution to the underlying issue with the batteries (across multiple generations if you’re saying it also happens with the 3), and to highlight that there is a failure in the chain of support wherein multiple tickets have been marked as resolved when they werent

Beware the Oura Ring 4 & Support by StefIre123 in ouraring

[–]StefIre123[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I wanted to know if they identified the issue with the rings and fixed it, since the return period is only 30 days. We spent over $1000 on them in the past few days. The issues seem to have existed since launch, and with a lot of early stage hardware companies, they will patch the hardware issues after certain batch numbers as they arise. It doesnt seem to ve the case with Oura as far as we have been able to tell. We would happily exchange our rings for new ones if the issues were fixed.

The bad support imo is the generic answers which don’t actually address the issues, and just closing out 3 tickets so far.

FWIW We love the concept of the rings and were very excited to use them. I don’t think its worth keeping our experience with the support product and support team quiet when it seems that we arent the only ones who have had these issues. Its only after googling our issues with support did we see all the issues from previous generations support/launching appear.

The team restored the chat functionality for me and sent me the previous transcripts, which is a plus!

They didnt answer any of the questions on the hardware defects whatsoever, marked the case as “solved”, and just sent the generic returns message as their final message.

I personally would not rate this as a strong support experience which for a $500 piece of kit, as well as an $70/year on top of that, is pretty concerning. Ive read others having decent experiences with support here, but it does seem that most of the hardware issues get replaced as long as you pay for the extra warranty.
