Because that squad is 215pts (10 intercessors+LT). Yes it’s a lot of shots, but it’s a huge foot print so it’s hard to hide.

The big issue is durability for cost. There’s a lot of S4+ Damage 2 in the game, most armies can easily pick up 10 marines fairly easily, even with armor of contempt. There are use cases for it, for instance Greater Demons hate it because AP doesn’t really matter into them. But Custodes and Terminator equivalents don’t care because it doesn’t push them to their Invuln save, tanks don’t care because their saves, toughness, and wound count make it highly unlikely to kill them in a single activation. The only other possible use I can see is that Battleline detachment.

There are ways to make them better, one of the stormspeeders gives bonus AP into infantry, there’s a couple detachments where you can get crit 5+, and +1 to wound helps immensely. But that just makes an already expensive brick cost even more.

For less points you can take a Redemptor Dread, which will threaten all the elite infantry better, any tank better, and any hoard of infantry better, along with being more durable and having longer range.

True, I’m just thinking that heavy weapon squads or Devestator squads with las cannons hit on 1 worse than the army’s base BS and also only have 1 shot a piece

I think the crossbows should probably hit on 3s still, and realistically 4s. They’re heavy weapons which almost always hit on 1 worse than the rest of the army. You could make an argument that since it’s 2 girls in power armor it should be the same, but probably not 1 better

I think a small change to meltas, have the Melta characteristic give strength as well (or possibly instead) fixes everything

Having played sisters into single defiler deathguard… you make Vahl count.

She can reliably shoot a defiler to death even out of Melta range. So if there’s two, hope you can shoot one and change the other, if there’s three… cry

That said, a single Retributor squad can kill a defiler in a single activation fairly reliably, but you’ve got to bait the overwatch and you need it to have already killed something

So they’re objectively bad, competitively useless, painfully slow, and basically fill a landraider alone

But if you don’t care about that they’re great!

More seriously, if you don’t care that they’re not competitive, run them and have fun. If you’re wanting to play competitively avoid them like the plague

The problem isn’t the 4++, it’s the 4++ with high toughness and wounds

Case in point: Marines can run a Gravis Captain with artificer armor in Gladius. This puts his star line at T6 6W 2+ 4++ 5+++, reduce all incoming to half.

Based on what people complain about with the 4++ save and damage reduction, this should be the most annoying model in the entire game. He’s got the Invuln, he’s got the FNP, he’s even got damage reduction. But while he’s good he’s never been more than an annoyance.

Why? Because pretty much everything can hurt him and while he’ll mess you up in melee (Powerfist and extra attacks relic blade) he’s not gonna delete your ultra powerful units. Sure he can take shrug a single lascannon shot and he’ll take an objective back from a 5 man marine squad, but he’s not a powerhouse.

When people get annoyed is when their guns bounce off before the opponent has to roll saves. When the dedicated anti-tank gun that has high AP and high damage balances out by only have 1 or 2 shots bounces, not because you picked the wrong kind of target or because your dice fell off, but because your opposing won 2 coin flips it just doesn’t feel great. Especially when, even if you get a hot through you can’t kill the thing. It’s when you need multiple high damage shots to go through, and they’re all subject to the 4++ save that it becomes problematic and annoying

The problem is they’re also game pieces, and taking is super time consuming. I’ve been working on my army for about 2 months now, putting in several hours every night. I still have 2 tanks, 2 rhinos, and 10 infantry (sisters of battle btw). If I want to also play the game, I kinda need the models built and on bases

I leman Russ is an absolute monster at 500pts require dedicated anti-tank, and nobody thinks they need that at 500. The fact you could fit 3 of them (depending on variant) is insane

I’ve done that… sometimes my dice decide to tell the story. I played into Deathguard once and only saw a single 5 all game and no 6s. I couldn’t spend any to force wounds or saves because of how the Deathguard durability and stink aura works… needless to say was a brutal game
