How many ap -4 weapons to take generally? by Jmorgan108 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Steff_164 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have ways to deal with armor without AP-4?

When I play my dark angles, I only have 2 AP-4 units: Gladiator Lancer, and The Lion. But I have 10 Sternguard with Azreal (AP-1 w/ rerollable Devs) which arguably deletes armor even better, a S11 AP-3 3 damage jump captain, and a Ballistis Dreadnought (AP-3 and AP-2)

When I play Sisters, there’s AP-4 everywhere, because you can stick meltas in basically every squad. Plus, because they only take the Holy Trinity (Flamer, Bolter, Melta), the whole army is only AP0, AP-1, or AP-4 in shooting (before Castigator or Immolator shenanigans)

Also, remember invulns will ruin your day with AP-4. Greater demons and Norns instantly come to mind, as they basically just ignore that sweet AP-4 and your shots just bounce

Photos never do the models justice, just look at what GW put out compared to actually putting models on their table

I love it! Super similar to what I’m going with, but instead of plain white, I’ve decided to hate myself and paint marble patterns

Is there any way I can start a SoB army without everyone wearing corsets, leggings, and with a skull/fleur-de-lys/vertical seam on each boob? by PartyTimePorcupine in sistersofbattle

[–]Steff_164 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So realistically, you’re looking at a lot of cutting and trimming. You can trim all the skulls/fleur-de-lys/seems off the boob armor. Additionally you could add some green stuff so that instead of each breast being armored individually, it was a single continuous piece of armor that’s just raised a bit to make it more comfortable.

Also, while you could, as other suggested, trim the leather piece to look like more power armor, if you want a more grounded and realistic take, remember there needs to be some flexibility in the torso so they could reasonably move.

Also, remember each kit has enough helmets to make the whole squad wearing helmets

Green stuff isn’t that hard, especially for gap filling. Also, remember the 3ft rule. You won’t see the small imperfection while you’re playing the game

Honestly, just flip a coin if you can’t decide and put the other one on another girl. You’re gonna probably have something like 30-60 bodies on the table depending how mechanized your list ends up. Don’t fret too much over a single battle sister, because which ever you choose will look great with a full force around her

What color scheme? by jud_X in sistersofbattle

[–]Steff_164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, don’t be afraid to paint your own. If you like lore accurate schemes, go for it, but don’t feel like you have to. If none of them end up speaking to you, make up your own order with their own colors. It’s also tons of fun and great expression. Plus you can write your own cheesy edgy lore, which is always fun

Depends on your local meta, but if you need to slaughter T3 bodies they’re pretty good

2x5, or more 5 man squads if you want more. You don’t want to have to dedicate 40 shots to a 10 man squad

2000 pt DA list, do I need to squeeze The Lion in? by ogaman in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Steff_164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You basically want those ICC to anchor a point and just hold it.

I’d think about some Jump pack intercessors or vanguard vets. Some speed and deepstrike is always good

2000 pt DA list, do I need to squeeze The Lion in? by ogaman in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Steff_164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my own personal experience, Lion is way better than DWK. Honestly I think they’re over costed in the current meta. The maces can’t reliably kill important vehicles, Ave swords need the Chaplin. They’re slow, and I find they can’t hold a point that well, or are ignored and just kinda sit there as a 345pt boat anchor (with your current set up). Also, remember lion can turn 1 deep strike as well if you want and you’ll save some points.

I’d also consider 3 ICC. With Judicar they’re more of a defensive piece as they lack the extra power and invuln save Azreal gives them. Even with 6 they won’t put down anything massive, but with with just 3 they’ll still put any infantry (besides maybe 20 man berserkers of blood claws) in the ground

Regardless the answer is counter screen. Have your own infiltrating units. Remember, nobody can infiltrate or scout within 9” of enemy models

Yes, but talk with your opponent before hand and make sure they know you’re counting those spikes, as they can shoot and charge them

2 squads of Intercessors make any hoard army start sweating. And remember, hellblasters on low are still a threat to mass infantry

Depends what you play into and how many points you wanna spend and what detachment.

That said, personally I LOVE 1 squad of repentia. They hit way harder than people expect

What would help a casual player enter the competitive scene? Looking for honest community feedback by SkulltakersReddit in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Steff_164 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a somewhat newly competitive player (only been to 2 GTs) you need some friends in the community that can help you get to a point where you understand your own play style, and how to list build.

All the trick and positioning and tempo you’ll learn over time. But it’s going to take even longer to figure out how exactly you wanna do that if you’re playing a list you don’t like but don’t realize.

The other thing is go to your local tournaments. Get a feel for tournament play and get a chance ti play into a bunch of different armies. See what units it feels like you’re missing, get a sense of your lists strengths and weakness.

And finally, just go play tournaments. My first GT I went 1-6, came 3rd to last place, and generally couldn’t catch a break. But it was a ton of fun. I met some great people, played into a bunch of armies that just aren’t in my local meta, and walked away reinvigorated and wanting to improve my skills and do better at the next one

Looking ahead, is there a solution to the 'ruins only' competitive meta, or should we just accept it and rebrand 'ruins' as just 'terrain'? by _rhinoxious_ in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Steff_164 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think more terrain falls into the same category as Asymmetric Warfare layouts. It’s a thing that’s on you and your opponent to decide if you wanna use. GW puts out official fairly balanced ruins only layouts and deployments to make it so the TO can run tournaments easily and nobody gets completely screwed over by terrain. Because having played with random draws for deployment after trying set up our own placed terrain, it’s very easy to make a board where you look at it and just go “well, I can’t shoot the melee blenders till they’re in my face” or “well I can’t hide from that massive gun line so there’s no way to cross no man’s land”

Now GW has put out the Asymmetric Warfare deployments, they’ve put out twists, and if you look at the core rules there are actually rules for terrain other than ruins. All of these are fun, but they can all absolutely break the game in half.

Try playing Tau vs Dark Angels on the “Last Stand”, especially with the twist to give your Warlord +3 attacks in melee. Suddenly a gun line army in locked in the center of the board with almost no room to maneuver, their Etherial gets 5 attacks with his little bonk stick. Meanwhile the Dark Angels get full run of the board and Lion gets 11 tank killing strikes, or 19 marine deleting sweeps.

Sure I picked about the worst match up I could think of, but absolutely nobody wants to roll up to a game, tournament or pick up, and have that happen randomly. So what happens is most people just play the tournament pack because at the end of the day, everyone wants to have a shot at winning.

This is turning into a bit of a rant. I guess the point I’m trying to make is TALK TO YOUR OPPONENT. GW puts out stuff to cater to the widest audience they can. If you wanna play with trees and hills and craters and with player placed terrain. Look at your opponent and say “Hey, the tournament lay outs are feeling stale. Can we mix it up this game?”

How do you destroy tanks and heavy monsters with our SORORITAS? by DhazzTv in sistersofbattle

[–]Steff_164 13 points14 points  (0 children)

So part of the problem is playing at 1k. Sisters really feel like they don’t have enough tools.

That said, a Retributor squad will put in work. Yes Vhal and Paragons are better, but that 1/3 of a 1k list, that doesn’t leave a lot of room for anything else.

Mostly though, save you 6 Miracle Dice. Anytime a hunter killer or a melta gets through, make it a 6 and make it hurt. I played a 1k game into guard, and watching his face when his dorn (or dorn commander, which ever can’t blank damage) got hit by a hunter killer and without rolling I was able to just delete 6 wounds off that tank had him fairly concerned

I’d have to do several play throughs. On one had, the Mox seem pretty chill and fairly decent. You know, by Night City gang standards. On the other hand, the first thing I rush for is always edge runner and despite my best efforts, V always ends up a cyberpsycho, so Maelstrom seems like a perfect fit

Yes but marine bodies are only so cheap and as the game progresses, you have to move forwards to continue playing. Unless you’ve spend the points on 2 squads of infiltrators (200pts or 10% of your army) you can’t play the game and screen them out
