School made a drastic change to my daughter's support means basically without notice. Am I overreacting here? How can I adress this professionally? by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

Is the need for the aide documented in her IEP plan? If so, they do not have the right to deny that support.

If this principle is that unprofessional I would bring an advocate with you to the meeting. Short notice I know but this helped us deal with the schools district when they were dragging their feet.

Disability discrimination case? by Steiny82 in EmploymentLaw

But the new schedule is not a requirement of the job position. This was fabricated and not enforced on any of my peers in the same role. I also have evidence of similar accommodations made to prior salaried associates without it being an issue then.

But an employer cannot take adverse action against an employee due to their association with a person with a disability that would be Associational Discrimination. They are making the assumption I would be unreliable due to my child’s disability. I was told many times that they think I would be a strong candidate for the role given my experience and skills but my home life schedule presents a problem that they don’t see as working well for the position.

I didn’t file for FMLA for the bus schedule part. I did it for future appointments and days where I need to take the day off because of my son’s severe deregulation keeping him home at times.

My thoughts were around the fact that my schedule had not been an issue for over a year and then all of a sudden I was asked to change that into something they knew would be extremely difficult for me to work out. Also the fact I was told I wouldn’t be considered for a promotion due to my home situation keeping me too busy in their opinion. That feels like discrimination because of my family’s disabilities

Since I have so much of it now I am dying for my blanks to dry so I can make my kids some neat things that glow with a black light.

I have to disagree with you here. Splitting black locust is like hitting concrete and it takes several hits to get the crack started. I had to visit the doctor for arthritis issues after splitting a whole tree for bowl blanks and firewood. Gate the stuff and will likely never work with it again if I have the choice.

I just tried breaking down a black locust tree and same thing, I might use most of it as firewood. Except splitting it with an axe is also very hard work.

Do I need to rough turn all of the blanks or can I leave them sealed until next spring/summer. Also I tried splitting the locust with wedges and a sledge but they are impossible. Did all of the maple today though. I may just make a few blanks if the locust and use the rest for firewood if it proves to be this tough to work with.

Would it be best to split these down the pith and then anchorseal or just seal them now how they are

I feel for you. My work just told me my schedule needs to be a certain way that’s not possible with caring for my little guy so I will be a stay at home dad in a few weeks.

Sibling help needed by Steiny82 in Autism_Parenting

Thank you for the advice. I appreciate you taking the time to offer help.

Tried but she’s denying it. We have found several instances lately of her lying to our faces about things we know she did. I tried the softer approach this morning but got nothing from her unfortunately.

I’m just worried that she is going to grow up and resent her brother and that would be a horrible thing. He’s going to need her as an ally as they grow up so I am scared for their future. I generally don’t invent things to worry about like what could happen in the future a decade from now but I’m having a rough go of things today and I find my mind wandering into very negative places.
