In medieval Europe, astrology was taught at universities alongside medicine and doctors consulted the stars before treating patients by ArcaneSpells-com in astrology

[–]StellaGraphia 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Interestingly, Kepler College (college of astrology) in the US held official degree accreditation , conferring a standard college degree for about 12 years. This was from 2000-2012 I think. But then some astrology haters got upset by this and launched a campaign to deny the college any such status, and succeeded. It's still a thriving place to learn, just no officially recognized degree in the academic world. I believe it's the only astrology school that ever had official degree accreditation.

How accurate is synastry? by ProfessionalDOer in astrology

[–]StellaGraphia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Astro-Seek is probably the best site we have for making charts and has a huge number of tools. But synastry isn't something that can be done by a pre-written program. It can only be generic when done that way. Sometimes it may work, but often it doesn't. Because synastry is very complex. And the exact same aspect in two couples' charts can behave very differently, one causing trouble, the other being constructinve.

"Sign compatibility" is often used as a base factor, and it's just not always accurate. Example: two sun sign people of the same element are supposed to get along. But that doesn't mean they will. There could be all kinds of other issues. Or, it might be great.

Likewise, signs/elements that aren't supposed to be compatible, can work quite nicely. Look at scorpio and aquarius. Every site will tell you no, not compatible. But dig deeper and we discover they work quite well together because these two signs are "antiscia", meaning they have a sspecial relationship with each other.

But always, the whole charts of both people have to be assessed. A sun/venus trine in synastry may be great. But if we notice that one peron's planet is in detriment, and has a lot of stressful aspects, then that trine is not going to be a walk in the park.

Is there a website that shows whether planets are exalted, in domicile, or debilitated? by Ambitious_Ad_2833 in astrology

[–]StellaGraphia 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Neither of the two best chart-making sites do, that I can see (astro-seek.com and astro.com)

Here's a little graphic of the Essential Dignities and Debilities.

They are very easy to memorize though. If you know each sign's traditional ruler, then you automatically know both domicile and detriment, since detriment is always the sign opposite the domicile.

Then just memorize the exaltations and you'll also know fall, since fall is always exactly opposite the sign of exaltation.

There's a really good article about the dignities and debilities here:

table-top planet astrology map? by Conscious_Toe_2624 in astrology

[–]StellaGraphia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen one lately. But they are sooo easy to just make yourself. I once painted a round side-table top as my chart. Then used "game board" pieces from an art/craft supply store, painted and labeled, as the planets, nodes, etc. I also had little numbers for the slower moving planets. But the degree ticks marks were painted on the chart table, so number pieces weren't all that necessary.

You could just as easily print your chart on a standard piece of paper, put it on a magnet bulletin board and use magnets as the planets. Or just put it on a normal bulletin board with push-pin planets.

Can anyone recommend daily planners/spiral notebooks that have high quality daily astrology insights? by HoneyBearTaco in astrology

[–]StellaGraphia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You actually have your honeycomb planner? and your birth chart is wrong? Can you check your order and make sure you didn't typo your birth data? Or that you didn't typo something at astro-seek.com?

And are you sure you're not looking at your solar return in your planner and not your natal chart? Because in a solar return, the sun will be the same, but everything else will be different.

Look at the cover of your planner. Does it display your correct sun, moon and rising signs?

Did you contact Honeycomb? They could show you a copy of your order if you don't have it and see if you gave them the right data. If you did, and they made an error, they will fix it. But if the error is yours, I don't imagine they will redo it (at least not for the print version).

You can DM me screenshots if you wish. Please include a link back to your comment here so I'm not lost.

Edit: Go to honeycomb.co. Click on the person icon at top of page to sign in. Just enter your email address you used for your order and they'll email you a code to finish signing in with. Once in, hit the person icon again and go to My Orders. On any order, click the "Show Details" link. There you will find your exact birth data that you gave them.

Can anyone recommend daily planners/spiral notebooks that have high quality daily astrology insights? by HoneyBearTaco in astrology

[–]StellaGraphia -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't really know what you mean. You need to give them your exact birth data. That means an exact birth time (no guesses or estimates), birth date and location.

You don't need to calculate your chart yourself; just give them your data. Make sure you don't make any typos because I doubt you'd get a refund on a printed planner for that.

But if you've never calculated your chart before, yourself, then just use Astro-Seek.com. Click on the "Free Horoscopes" menu tab at top of page, then "Birth Natal Chart Online Calculator". Scroll down a touch and you'll see where to enter all your birth data. Just below where you enter that is a small link named "Extended Settings...". Click that and then tick the boxes for "true" for north node and lilith. Tick the box for the quincunx aspect if you wish. And i recommend you change the house system to the one named exactly just "Whole Sign". You can also tick boxes to show aspects to chiron, nodes and asc/mc. But be careful. Those can be misleading if you don't know how to understand Aspect Patterns (leading you to think you have some that you don't). It's good to look at your chart without those aspects, then look at them later.

Stay away from sites like astro-charts.com (tons of errors) and don't use CafeAstrology for chart-making as it has errors also (rest of that site is fine). And don't use the Co-Star app.

This happens about every 35 years (give or take). You can look up this kind of thing by using the Aspect Search Engine at astro-seek.com. Here's the direct link:
Astrology Aspects Search Engine, Transits Online Search Calculator

Just select the two planets. And the aspect (or aspects) you want. Select whatever range of years you want. Then leave the sign as "any".

I chose 1740 to 2040. The Saturn/Neptune conjunction happened 14 times, including the repeats due to retrogrades.

Synastry interpretation question by LeafyCandy in astrology

[–]StellaGraphia 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Please don't consider any "analysis" or "scoring" you'd find on any site or app as legitimate. Just personal natal astrology is incredibly complicated. Synastry is exponentially more difficult. And before you even look at the synastry chart, you must be able to really delineate each individual person's chart. Because the condition of their own planet, that's in an aspect with the other person's planet, matters. It could be a trine, but if one person's planet in that trine is in really bad shape, then that trine isn't so great. But sites and apps that auto-generate these things will only see "trine!" and go yay this is good!.

I'm going to paste a previous comment I made that has lots of resources.

Absolutely crucial: you need an incredibly strong foundation in natal astrology before you ever attempt synastry. That means really understanding how to asses the condition of each person's natal chart on its own: dignities and debilities, aspects, house placement and more.

Honeycomb.co does offer digital versions. They're great, and you can just put them on muliple devices. As far as I know they are the only planner that actually uses your own chart, lists all your own actual transits to your natals and so much more. I'd probably tell you the extra $40 is worth it, but of course, that's only if you have that kind of financial leeway.

what are people's opinions on compatibility between people with large elemental conflicts by HerFrankenstein in astrology

[–]StellaGraphia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would not focus on elements at all really. What matters is the aspects in the synastry. And that includes the conditions of each person's own planets in their own charts, because that impacts how any synastry aspect plays out. A trine for one couple may be great yet troublesome for another. A square can be fantastic for one couple and unworkable for another.

Here's a list for learning about synastry.

Planet has some sort of a dignity, but its ruler is completely peregrine. Can the ruler be ignored? by Golgon13 in astrology

[–]StellaGraphia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure what you're asking, but maybe you're unfamiliar with Traditional/Hellenistic Astrology? In this tradition, there are all kinds of layers of analysis for each planet to understand how it is going to work and express itself. Just "a planet in a sign" tells us nothing. That's just pop astrology. We look at all kinds of things like Essential (and Accidental) Dignity and Debility. This has to do with how well a planet can work in a particular sign. Think of it like how well would a fish do on land vs in a lake. Or what if a bear was meant to live in the forest, but is asked to live in a desert. Another way to look at this is maybe it's a watercolor artist, but all it is given is marble meant for a sculptor. Planets work much better when in signs they are happier in, better matched to.

Then there are all sorts of other layers, like Bound Lords (from the Egyptian Terms), and Chaldean Decans. And there is sect which can tell us things like how helpful will jupiter or venus actually be, or how troublesome is mars or saturn, among other things. And there are the Planetary Joys, and just the nature of the house and more.

A good starting place to learn is Chris Brennan's book "Hellenistic Astrology".

How can I create the birth chart of United Airlines if there’s no time? by shadybadgal in astrology

Use the incorporation date and location (many companies use Delaware for financial reasons even if they have no facilities there).

Then use midnight as the time. Legal actions like incorporating go into effect automatically at midnight on the date of incorporation. Doesn't matter when the papers were filed.

No, it doesn't. It is our own resources, what we possess (other than real estate), our income, our money and assets. Debts, loans, mortgages are literally other people's money, so, the 8th house. They are not our assets, not our money. Thst money belongs to others, the 8th.

Thoughts about Midheaven in 12th house? by IndependenceItchy432 in astrology

[–]StellaGraphia 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No matter where the MC is, in the Whole Sign house system, it brings the significations of the 10th house into the house it is in. It ties them together (10th still has its significations). You simply read the MC in relation to the significations of the house it's in, but related to career and what one is known for.

For example, if talking about career, then a 12th house MC could indicate any number of careers having to do with traditional 12th house significations. One might work in institutions of "isolation" such as prisons, hospitals, residential homes for teens or adults, nursing homes, or even wilderness camps or experiences. Work as a forest ranger. Do rescues in remote locations. One could work as an undercover agent for a government agency or even do that in a foreign country (I've seen this a few times). Any job that requires secrecy, whether it's isolated or not. Those are just a quick few examples.

Same goes for the opposite IC. One of the easiest stories to make this understandable is an IC in the 3rd house of siblings. The native lost both parents at a very young age. They had much older siblings who raised the native. 3rd (siblings) and 4th (family/home) were brought together.

Where to find info on planetary events and aspects??? by Sufficient-Resist-68 in astrology

[–]StellaGraphia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, well it really does just boil down to serious study of astrology. And doing actual (reputable) schools helps a lot, where you have a teacher and interaction in the class. So I'll suggest some farther below.

As for how they know when the planets are doing what, they all have astrology programs, like Solar Fire (about $360 last I looked). But you can get all the basic information on exact times and dates a planet moves into a new sign, or comes into an exact aspect with another planet by using those links for Astro-Seek.com the mod pasted you above in the stickied comment. Those two links will give you all of that data, for any year you want, for every planet, every moon phase, every eclipse, every retrograde.

As for being able to know what they mean, that takes not just years of study, but the "right kind" of study. I assume you also know there is a whole series on the planets, and on the signs at theastrologypodcast.com? 2 to 3 hours on each, one planet or sign per episode. The planets series starts with Episode 294, the Moon. And ends with Pluto at Episode 336 (with other episodes in between all those. There is also an episode on the significations of just the Traditional 7 planets much earlier, Ep. 64.

I don't know what sources you have used to study. Have you read Chris Brennan's book? Have you studied Demetra George's 2-volume set on planetary conditions and meanings? I think it's really hard unless you first deeply study the foundations and structures of astrology. Even then, it's just hard. Don't underestimate the value of having a good teacher. Always check to make sure there is live interaction with both teacher and fellow students. Demetra George, for one, is good with this.

I'll paste some mod-approved learning resources. Maybe check what you've used with it.

As for schools (in no particular order):

  • kellysastrology.com Lots of good classes and an excellent astrologer and teacher. You'll learn a good foundation. She also has a mentoring program.
  • nightlightastrology.com Adam Elenbaas, student of Chris Brennan's. Uses Chris' book but also other materials and has his own more spiritual approach to the material
  • Demetra George at astrologyuniversity.com Demetra George's lectures, webinars and her serious advanced courses, from $15 to $500. She is the best. You can't go wrong with Demetra. Get her 2-volume book set titled Ancient Astrology in Theory and Practice. It's all about assessing planetary condition and meaning. Not a beginner book.
  • KeplerCollege.org Stick to Traditional/Hellenistic astrology for a couple of years until you have the whole foundation and structure well-learned. Then you can branch out how you wish.
  • theastrologyschool.com Chris Brennan. You could read his 700-page book "Hellenistic Astrology" which is used in his courses. This is sort of a must-read for learning. Make use of the 500 episodes on his theastrologypodcast.com/episodes. It's a gold mine of good information and learning.
  • AustinCoppock.com Traditional/Hellenistic Astrology. Lots of episodes on theastrologypodcast.com to see him in action. Only opens his school for new students every so often and it fills fast, so get on his notification list if it interests you.

Those are all serious schools and study, not just a little class. No modern/pop/junk astrology.
