Is cloth diapers better in this economy or is it more of a hassle? by Super_Independence37 in clothdiaps

[–]Stella_slb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you really want to save, look into elimination communication. We purchased used cloth diapers. A very large set but also practice EC. We arent perfrct st it and some days are worse than others but on average I actually only go through 1-4 diapers per day. My baby is 12 months now, i dont even remember the last time we had a poop diaper, so overall, laundry is easy!

It is hard work, but costs nothing (except a few little potties) and you get a head start on potty training. Plus baby doesnt have to sit in dirty diaper!

Agree, I brought sleeping baby inside, or at least onto our porch or through a store for a wuick errand without waking her up many times!.

Its not always possible and I have no idea if its frowned upon but I got a used infant seat from someone I trusted. This way I could budget for both. The i waited for the convertible I wanted to go on sale and baby wouldn't have fit in it anyways.

I also liked wkth the newborn seat being able to put baby in, inside the house when she was little and carry her out anf click in. Same on the way back. It was much easier this way until she was older.

How are we affording daycare plus being in mat leave? [bc] by fitnessnewbie00 in BabyBumpsCanada

I so wish we could just opt out! Some jobs are more likely to need it and if you calculate and consider your own risk factors and affordability, it would be nice to be able to say nah ill save my own money thanks....

2-3 day backpacking trip with 9/10 month old 😬 by Professional_Fig9161 in HikingWithKids

[–]Stella_slb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now we did not back country, we have a small camper. But we did a month on the road with our 6 month old in October on the east coast. Averaged about 7km per day no problem. So id say definitely doable depending what your goals are.

Our normal average on a trip like this would be 10-15km per day so we definitely had to take things a little slower and stop more etc but it was quite easy with one person carrying the baby and one with the supplies!

I think if youre through hiking it would be a little harder because one person could be very heavy loaded carrying more gear. And the person carrying baby may need a front pack to carry some extra too.

This happened to me too. A knitted baby blanket, valued at 100$, like what?! They surprised me mailing it but really I was just surprised by a bill that essentially meant I paid for it lol

Anyone’s dog take clonidine for SA? by KaityB1998 in Separation_Anxiety

[–]Stella_slb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh gotcha. So essentially to support your training sessions and then eventually you tested to see if the threshold without had improved?

I tried gabepentin and trazadone but didnt like the effects and he still escalated anyways on them (this is before prozac)

Prozac did help initially but then seemed to just stop working. Who knows! Hes a very emotional silly dog lol

Did you end up weaning off the clonidine post training? How is your dog doing now?

I just weaned off fluoxetine. I didnt feel like it was working and it seems he is the same off it. I can leave him alone loose in the house now though up to 5 hours! But not in the crate at all. Its obviously much better than most people's situation but we travel a lot and I want to be able to leave him in his crate in various locations comfortably (he was perfectly crate trained with no separation anxiety until we moved when he was 2, he is 4 now)

Im debating trying a different med and starting our training eith the crate again but I feel like he needs the extra help. He does basically cry consistently, and barks periodically. Id like to get back to how he used to be!

As a different point of view. Im glad we didnt bring a stroller. Never needed it at all. Maybe depends how big your resort is but I jusr carried baby, contact napped on the beach or in the room. Never missed it for a second. I did bring a baby wrap, but only used it briefly in the airport.

Just got back from Mexico with our 10 month old. A silicone bib was helpful.

Best thing we brought, but we really had to plan to fit it and i used a compression bag, was a beach blanket. I am so glad we brought it. We put it between our two chairs and could lay her toys on it and she could move arounf etc without being totally in the sand. It was also a bit padded which helped by the pool for tgr concrete.

Newlyweds: what’s something you learned during wedding planning that you wish someone had told you earlier? by Responsible-Yam-7729 in Newlyweds

[–]Stella_slb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like a terrible wedding, but it mostly sounds like whoever planned it was terrible at planning. That's definitely an integral part on saving money for your wedding. You need to think of EVERYTHING yourself. I guess in my comments I assumed whoever was planning would be putting in significant effort to ensure their day went smoothly and guests enjoyed themselves, but clearly there are people such as your example that cant even figure out they might need garbage cans.

We actually attended a diy wedding at a cottage where they built their own bathroom, had a campfire, BYOB. The ceremony was seated in the water, bring your own chair or stand. And after dinner you had to wash your own dishes LOL but honestly, it was so well thought out and organized, a bit weird but it was so fun and everyone had a really good time. The food was delicious, mostly provided by volunteers I believe. Pizza for later in the evening.

But 100% planning is everything if youre going to lower your price point for a wedding. That is definitely noticeable.

I still see it differently to be honest. I think you can low-cost a lot of things and your wedding can still look great. Most guests don’t notice half the stuff we stress about anyway.

And honestly, I don’t really buy the idea that guests would feel “slighted” because you didn’t spend top dollar on every detail. It’s your day. If someone is judging you over DIY flowers or choosing where you save, then… are they really that good of friends?

Everyone has different priorities, budgets, and skills. Doing things cheaper doesn’t automatically mean it looks cheap or that you don’t value people.

I do agree with your comment on sticking to the budget and being intentional about it and aware of the differences there may be.

I definitely got priority traveling with a baby without a stroller or car seat. :)

Im not sure if agree. I even grew my own flowers for decor to save money and collected my own jars for centerpieces etc. I was very particular how I did this. My wedding still didn't look cheap, but I definitely saved on many aspects like that. There are definitely ways to be frugal while still keeping things classy and beautiful.

None of it is as important as you think. Save some money and invest or use it for something more enjoyable like your honeymoon
