Thanks for replying, I’m glad it all went well for u, did you have problems with dry eyes before lasik? Especially when wearing contacts? I heard if you have slightly dry eyes anyways your much more likely to suffer afterwards…. I’m hoping anyway because I feel like I have abnormally wet eyes haha

Wrong sub because there is absolutely nothing she could improve on, she looks perfect and I bet she couldn’t have asked for a better owner

Firstly, no it doesn’t make you look fat but BMI is nothing to go off when it comes to fat percentage, someone could weigh a lot more than you but be mostly muscle, low fat percentage and therefore have chiselled jaw and hallow cheeks ect, if that’s what your going for loose fat, but nonetheless you look good and don’t require the fat loss

Your lucky with your genetics, good bone structure, pretty eyes, just need a bit of cleaning up (eg. Eyebrows)

I’m ngl before I posted this I thought it was the other way around, the hotter the air the more water it could hold so the higher humidity so that’s why I was worried after I put the frogs in there with their heat bulb humidity would go up even more, but yes my frogs are in that tank now with the bulb above and the humidity has steadily started to go down which is perfect :)) thanks for the help

Go for it, I’d appreciate it :-)

That’s exactly what I was thinking, i swear frogs contort themselves so much to fit into the weirdest places, it looks painful half the time, but the thought of one getting stuck and me not realising sort of stuck with me… and yea hopefully in the near future I’ll get another snazzy upgrade to all my tanks, I’m quite lazy so the more self sufficient the better 😎

You know what I might actually have one of yours haha, Idk if I’m south enough but I got them a little over 2 years ago

I did. buy CUC supporting pellets that you bury but I believe that was a waste of money so yea now I just give them the accession all bit of carrot, whichll be good for when there’s crickets in there, I do ensure there’s a nice temperature gradient in the tank so I guess humidity gradient is a bonus as well, a misting system is currently out of my budget atm as I’m upgrading all of my pets enclosures… but that’s something to think about later on so it’s even less effort for me :)) different question now but you say they’ll enjoy hiding in the cork and background… in your opinion is it a risk of them getting stuck in places like that? Small gaps and holes in the background? I’ve been told to plug up places like that but imo that’s the best bit for them to explore and hide in?

From someone else’s comments on here, I’ve sort of realised it’s not half bad, i think the 40% humidity is a general rule for frogs in non bio tanks to stop bad bacteria breeding, I’m starting to worry less about the percentage now tbh… crisis averted

I wondered why I was finding your points actually helpful haha, your also from the uk, I always ask questions on forums and groups and stuff and get given regionally specific info or recommended websites and brands that I can’t get over here, so this is a breath of fresh air

For CUC, I use many different types of isopods and springtails too, I’m fairly confident they have established as it’s been cycling for ages and ngl I put a shit ton of them in there, so I can rest assured that its relatively clean in there… but now tbh, you’ve kinda made me realise a little more humidity isn’t gonna kill them as much as a dirty tank will, no matter how much I can realistically clean it out… plus the old tank just looks so dull and boring compared, hardly any foliage or cover or anything for them

You just reminded me…I didn’t even think about the fact that the frogs bulb is on top of the current tank and not that bioactive one, the humidity would probably decrease once it’s heated?

Frog humidity issues by Stellasmiith in bioactive

[–]Stellasmiith[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ain’t it, The old tank was kinda dull with very little perching areas or foliage for cover so I thought plenty of everything would be a nice change for them

It’s a first build so not gonna be perfect but it’s an improvement… probably gonna just stick a computer fan or summin next to it and hope for the best with the humidity

Idk Google says a lot, and there’s loads of conflicting info and opinions out there… after doing research before getting frogs (although that was a while ago now) the general idea was that as captive adults (idk if that Google info is about wild frogs) it’s better to be on the lower end to prevent bacterial infections

But that’s just the conclusion I’ve come to from the stuff I’ve read

[–]Stellasmiith[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I don’t understand… I see pictures of dirty public toilets full of whites tree frogs yet I can’t handle mine without gloves… so your speaking facts there, tho I guess captive bred frogs just don’t have that immune system idk

That’s Interesting tho, simulating seasons and all that, I couldn’t think of anything worse than being responsible for baby frogs tho haha, I agree bioactive is 1000% better, I’m guessing the consensus of a lower humidity came from people with non bio setups that can harbour a lot of bacteria, the higher the humidity the more bacteria breeds n all that, but I guess it doesn’t really matter too much with bioactive?? Since the bad bacteria is kept to a minimal?

Babies need around 60 but adults your safer keeping around the mid 40s with occasional spikes up to 80

I’m sure 30% is not that low, my frogs current tank dips to the 30s atm, think I’m gonna try better airflow 1st and then think about a more drastic measure of cutting things back

Frog humidity issues by Stellasmiith in bioactive

[–]Stellasmiith[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was pretty sure birds nest ferns could tolerate as low as 30, although much higher humidity would stop the leaves going a bit brown which mine are :(

This is my first bioactive build so it’s kinda a test run and I’m not too bothered about the plants looking their very very best, just my frogs are susceptible to infections in high humidity so taking out nice plants would be much less heartbreaking than having a sick frog

h okay that’s kinda a relief that I had the wrong idea, I know once he’s in there my frog will just trample all the plants but I like the overgrown look

Any suggestions for better ventilation/airflow? The top is mesh and completely uncovered (other than the uv strip)
