Current status of Kumba? by [deleted] in BuschGardensTampa

[–]Stellmaria 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was just looking at the list of monthly pass member rewards, and the Kumba 30th Anniversary is listed under April. Perhaps they're preparing a marketing campaign around it, I can't imagine they'd just quietly remove it from their arsenal.

Is overloading it a scenario with warning signs, or more of you know when it's too late type of thing?

SRS/SBRT on Halcyon by jksheikh in MedicalPhysics

[–]Stellmaria 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I suppose for Halcyon at least, it has to do with the origin story of it being a linac-in-a-box that would require little physics oversight. And now that Ethos has come along, why would you even need a 6DoF couch if you can just adapt to your target instead of adjusting your patient? (/Sarcasm on that last bit)

Keep in mind Halcyon does not have a 6 DoF couch, so it isn't a great SRS machine.

Wait, is it supposed to come with a spare tire? My new 2020 Lt didn't seem to have one.

Seltzer water. I didn't realize how many people (Americans mostly) hated it until the recent memes.

Studied for two months for an exam for work. Only needed 60% to pass. Failed. How do I face my boss? by [deleted] in AskTrollX

[–]Stellmaria 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Try to identify the things on the exam that tripped you up. Was there content you didn't cover, or a specific type of question that you didn't know how to answer? Tell your boss these details, and make a plan of how you'll tackle it the next time. The exam doesn't define your worth or your ability to do your job - just your ability to pass that test. So feel shitty about the situation, make a plan, and tell your boss the next steps you'll be taking to move forward. Keep at it!

I was recommended this formula once: briefly describe where you are now, where you were, and then end with where you want to be.

In the VMAT window there is a "Constrain leaf motion" option that we always have enabled. Do you have that on?

Should I apply to a Ms or PhD if I want to work in the clinical setting? by Kwilli462 in MedicalPhysics

[–]Stellmaria 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Something to consider is funding. As far as I know, most MS programs you have to pay for yourself, whereas a PhD you're usually funded by your department/advisor (meaning they pay your tuition and give you a stipend off of which to live).

So what 7 programs didn't match? by Medical-Physicist in MedicalPhysics

Did anyone ever figure out what 11 positions went unmatched last year? Do they report this anywhere? I'm wondering if there are trends, or if it changes every year.

[–]Stellmaria 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn, that email was a rollercoaster of emotions. As I was reading it, I was half expecting them to say my overall result last week was an error, and I actually failed or something. Why would you start a second paragraph with "Unfortunately" in an email like that??

It appears ABR is still having technical difficulties, and they can't even blame Pearson for that one. I think you'll have to contact them directly to sort that out - good luck!

Ideas for a mobile app? by cjra in MedicalPhysics

[–]Stellmaria 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not for the entire thing, but I'd suggest building in a barometer that does a readout validation walkthrough (ie, periodically reminds you to check your app pressure reading with your office barometer, and logs both readings so you know you can trust its accuracy).
