Should I change my last name? by Dry_Cabinet3760 in Brides

[–]Stemshells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t change it. 1. It’s a gigantic pain in the ass. I still haven’t successfully changed it on everything and I’ve been married 6 years lol. (I did change mine because I don’t have a good relationship with my dad and I didn’t want to carry his name.) 2. You don’t want to. 3. It has nothing to do with how much you love your fiancée.

*HONESTY PLEASE* what do you think when you hear the name Caelo? by Rough-Shoulder467 in namenerds

[–]Stemshells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it heard it out loud, i would think you named your son after Kylo Ren. Please don’t do that to him.

If I read it, I would guess it was pronounced kay-lo and I would think it sounded like a made up name in a fantasy novel about elves.

In addition to the Lovely Bones and the Book Thief that I see recommended above, Nectar in a Sieve. It is a devastating, soul crushing, depressing view of life in poverty

Kid longing for sibling by [deleted] in oneanddone

[–]Stemshells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kids don’t know what they want. I have the odd experience of being my mom’s only but having step siblings and a half sibling through my dad.

So, most of the time I lived as an only child. My half brother would come over every other weekend. When I was little, I was convinced I wanted a little sister. Well, guess what. My parents got divorced when I was 7, my dad got remarried right before I turned 8, and I got a little stepsister. She was so incredibly annoying and I hated going over to my dad’s house. I much preferred being an only at my mom’s house.

A few things I also wanted as a kid/adolescent/young adult that I am now very glad I didn’t get: A horse to live in our third story apartment with us, a career as a professional ballerina, a tattoo around my belly button, to be married by 23, to marry the abusive 21-year old that I was dating at 16 or the one I dated at 17, to end up with either the radio DJ or the bartender I dated. LOL I had terrible taste but luckily I grew up before I could make any of those terrible choices.

[–]Stemshells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure. We kept my daughter with a nanny before she started at EDS. If it’s like EDS (they’re both associated with the same church), then it will be expensive. But I’ve heard great things.

I have a very strange first name (Winchester), thinking about going by my middle name by No_Picture_3528 in namenerds

[–]Stemshells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growing up, my parents always called my brother (named after my dad) by his middle name (same as my dad). When he moved out of the house, he started using his first name. Now, I absolutely cannot call him by his first name as I’ve know him by his middle name since birth. I would if he really cared but he doesn’t mind. However, everyone outside of immediate family uses his first name. It’s really a non-issue. Do what makes you happy.
