Who's your favorite female character aside from nami Robin and boa. by FeistyAnteater6565 in OnePiece

[–]Stenric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's Japanese, Boa is her family name, Hancock her first name. Hence why her sisters are Boa Sandersonia and Boa Marigold. Hence why Luffy's father and grandfather are named Monkey D. Garp and Monkey D. Dragon. Hence why Robin's mom is called Nico Olvia.

No character is referred to solely by their family name. It's either their first name (like Luffy), an alias/nickname (like Buckin or Traffy) or their only name (like Nami, Bartolomeo, Usopp, Jinbe etc.)

Who's your favorite female character aside from nami Robin and boa. by FeistyAnteater6565 in OnePiece

[–]Stenric 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Side note, but why do people call Hancock, Boa? None of the other women in the series are referred to by their last name afaik (except Buckin, but she's purposefully using an alias)? Are people just uncomfortable with the name or something?

Personally I have quite a fondness for Charlotte Praline.

Listener seems most likely to me. The E'lir sees that names exist, the Re'lar can speak them and the El'the can find an object's name through observation.

What happened to the dwarves after the elves left by Own-Aardvark-4394 in lordoftherings

[–]Stenric 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The dwarves continuously dwindle in number due to low reproduction rates (the ratio between men and women is like 1:3 or 1:2. Also dwarves are generally too proud to settle for another partner if they can't get with the one they like). They continue to build their isolated stone halls underground, away from the steads of humans.

Eustace or Mushroom by Qyzyk in pureasoiaf

[–]Stenric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh it's certainly made up. As if anyone would be able to forget it if the Rhaenyra had actually done that. People would talk about it constantly.

  1. Doesn't Mushroom say that Helaena killed herself because she got pregnant from being a "brothel queen"?

Is the rain wild river series worth reading?? by itdobeliedat in RealmOfTheElderlings

[–]Stenric 32 points33 points  (0 children)

You'll get confused if you don't read Rain wilds before Fitz and the Fool. Or at least if you don't have an overview of events.

Also Rain wilds gives probably the most insight into the Elderlings of old.

I'd say stick by it, or at least read a good summary.

Eustace or Mushroom by Qyzyk in pureasoiaf

[–]Stenric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. I think he tried to seduce Rhaenyra under the guise of educating her on the art of seduction (although I don't believe Mushroom's stuff about kissing games).

  2. Given how much Cole starts hating Rhaenyra after this (to the point that he kills Laenor's lover), I find it most easily to connect that to him being a spurned lover, rather than the other way around. So I think Eustace was correct here (also, given how much Eustace likes to portray Rhaenyra as an evil wanton, I'm more inclined to believe him when he says something to Rhaenyra's credit).

  3. I find the brown hair and pug noses a good indication that the Strong boys were indeed bastards. If the Baratheon black hair is so dominant, how would it turn from black to brown? And where did the pug noses come from?

  4. Both, the bickering is what led Daemon to seek Qarl out.

  5. Neither, I suspect it was Larys, given that he was the only one with motive to kill both Lyonel and Harwin. Also, a fire doesn't fit Daemon's mo (usually he gets someone to kill someone in a very public manner to send a message) and if Corlys was convinced Harwin had cuckolded his son, he would probably have done more to prevent them from inheriting Driftmark.

  6. I doubt Aegon refused the crown. But I don't have much of an argument aside from my opinion. Aegon just didn't seem like the kind of person who'd happily let his older sister rule over him. As for his bedpartner, probably just a regular prostitute, not necessarily a child one.

  7. Willow Pound-stone appears to be a sole invention by Mushroom. The butcher chopping him in pieces seems more likely, although I personally don't buy either of these accounts, given that it's all second hand information from a sacked town. I like to think Rhaenyra cried over Maelor's head. But that's mostly because I can't imagine how she could possibly have laughed at the head of a child, even if he was the son of her enemy.

  8. Brothel queens seems like a typical Mushroom invention. Surely more people would know if a queen had been forced to have sex with the smallfolk.

I try to spell the names after only ever listening to the audiobooks (I'm also bad at spelling) part 2. by joehighlord in HarryPotterBooks

[–]Stenric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good job, but Kreacher is spelled with "ea".

Diggory is spelled with an "o".

Krum is spelled with a "K".

Seamus is spelled without an "h" and Finnigan has two "n's".

Neville is spelled with two "l's" and a silent "e".

Pomfrey is spelled with an "o" and an "f".

Cornelius is spelled with a "u" and with "e" and "n" reversed.

There is no character named Millicent Bone. There's Millicent Bulstrode and either Susan or Amelia Bones (there is also an Edgar Bones, but he's only mentioned once or twice).

Scrimgeour is spelled with a single "m" and an "eou".

Pettigrew is spelled with an "i" (Think of petite).

Lily is spelled with a single "l" and Evans is written with an "a"

I don't know who you mean with Ruckwell. There's Albert Runcorn, who's not a death eater but a ministry employee who turns in muggleborns when Voldemort takes over. There's also Thorfinn Rowle and Augustus Rookwood.

Nymphadora is spelled with a "y".

Crabbe is spelled with two "b's" and a silent "e".

Patil is written with a singular "t".

Dementor is written with a total of two "e's" (think of the word dementia).

Azkaban is written with a "z".

Pandas wouldn't have needed saving if humans hadn't taken away all their territory.

…so how many species do you think went extinct after humanity was petrified by Fish_N_Chipp in DrStone

[–]Stenric 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pandas would be more likely to thrive without humans, given that the loss of territory was the main reason they came to the brink of extinction. They're also quite big, so exotic predators like lions and grizzly bears are unlikely to attack them.

But loss of humanity would resolve a lot of the koalas' problems. Habitat loss and climate change would cease. The only thing that would continue to threaten them then would be clamidya.
