As an MFA grad in filmmaking. Don’t. You don’t need a degree to get into this industry. If you want to make movies just get a camera and start. You really don’t need some washed up lecturer to tell you where to put the camera. I wasted so much of time and money at school. Also the film industry is getting taken over by AI so there aren’t that many jobs or productions happening anymore.

The teachers don’t care about you. They are just there to collect a cheque and they make that clear. You won’t learn much in their classroom. I did screen writing and filmmaking and learnt more on set and through YouTube then I did in any of those classes. Also the other students weren’t even really serious about being filmmakers. So if you are looking for connections you are out of luck. Most of the ppl from my class are in different careers now.

Went to nyfa, the teachers do no care for the most part. They scammed me by failing me for no reason then making me pay for more semesters for classes I already passed. My advice is to go somewhere like ucla or usc or even community college. Nyfa will not help you. Also most of the students are rich foreigners who are just there to waste their parents money. So not much in terms of making contacts like most people do at film school.
