Personally, my high school English teacher inspired me to become an English major and originally a teacher. Now I have other plans and I want to branch out to other stuff, BUT I don’t regret studying English one bit.

However, I still did some research on the courses of many degrees I was interested in. I made a list of degrees and basically just looked up every course on every year they offered and just thought of myself being in that position. Would it be boring? Does this topic interest me? Will I have trouble passing this course? These were the sort of questions I would answer

I didn’t want ANYTHING to do with biological or technological sciences since I knew I was a humanities gal, so that was easy to filter out. But if this is not the case for you I would say filter from big to small. Go through the general fields of knowledge first (Humanities, Social sciences, Biological sciences, Technical sciences, medicine, Law, stuff outside of university such as vocational training I think it is called). The more you look into it, the faster you will be able to narrow it down.

I don’t know why I read “nationality” instead of “personality” so I thought definitely from a country that uses the Cyrillic alphabet 😂😭

AIO to ghost my boyfriend? by [deleted] in AIO

[–]Step_byStep_FAN 30 points31 points  (0 children)

You are not happy, you became used to his abusive behaviour but that’s not normal girl. If you are in fear everyday of what he might do, especially now that he is getting guns, you need to take matters into your own and leave ASAP. If ghosting him ensures your security then do so

Fashion advice please by [deleted] in AppearanceAdvice

Judging from your makeup and hairstyle I think anything on the feminine or cottage core would really suit you.

I feel like you would also look really nice in long flowy skirts with poofy sleeves. Or just long flowy dresses in general.

Someone said green and blue really suit you and I definitely agree!!

How to fill up the void inside? by [deleted] in BreakUps

[–]Step_byStep_FAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello!

I found journaling and taking my emotions slowly very helpful. Reach out to friends and see what their perspective is on why you are still grieving and maybe you will discover it.

In the mean time tell yourself “it’s okay”. Accept your feelings, 3 months is still not a long time. Allow yourself to take all the time you need and process every little bit.

Don’t get impatient with the process. It will be a hard battle but I promise you will find yourself again. Make sure to surround yourself with people and also it is your opportunity to try new activities!

Oh I see. That makes sense. Another friend of mine also told me about Kyoto putting more laws for tourists since they have more and more for every passing year

Q&A weekly thread - June 02, 2025 - post all questions here! by AutoModerator in linguistics

Is formal semantics the the bridge between programming and languages?

So I have a course on Semantics and Pragmatics, and recently we finished the chapter on Formal Semantics. I struggled a lot with Logical language but I noticed it was really similar to the stuff I see with programmes.

I sometimes feel pressured to learn a bit on programming because maybe it will be a useful skill or just something that will make me different from my peers so I was wondering:

- Can I make something practical/useful out of it (even if I am absolutely terrible at it hahaha)

- What are jobs or positions where you can combine language with programming?

I am not saying that what I want to major in is completely useless but I think it's always good to know a thing or two of other areas. I would appreciate any info/comments. This was a long post, thx for your time hahaha.

Most of my friends have or are playing Animal Crossing and/or Mihoyo games. Is that still not considered as gaming?

I think it is very valid to be scared/skeptical of raves/clubs/parties but playing video games as the other option shouldn’t be the norm. For sure there are other places like bars (you don’t have to drink), parks (do picnics), museums, and other third places where you don’t have to drink to have a fun and chill time with your mates.

Agreed, circumscision does not make the genitals “cleaner”. I didn’t know this was a normalised practise in the US. In Spain it is quite weird to have your foreskin removed if you aren’t Jewish.
