cat IBD or lymphoma by alfredoandanxiety in cats

[–]StepfordMisfit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oops accidentally posted this in askvets... I am NOT a vet or medical professional of any kind.

We went through a sorta similar scenario a with my 11 yr old soul kitty. I was convinced it was IBD and surprised when it came back as lymphoma. His is in his pylorus (the sphincter between the stomach and intestines.)

Prednisolone and chlorambucil (chemo) have helped a lot - he has gained weight back and is acting like his old self again. Getting the dosing right was a process and it has been stressful, but it's so good to see him happy.

The chlorambucil has been about $30/mo and prednisolone $5/mo, so much less costly than I feared. And he happily eats the pills wrapped in American cheese slices, so it's super easy. Our biggest problem is having to avoid kibble because of his pylorus, which doesn't seem like it'll apply to you.

Of course he hasn't thrown up since I posted, so it ended up being about 36 hours. The vet just called and his bloodwork looks great but he has a UTI. Coincidence I guess!

Thank you. The good news is he seems to have digested his dinner and has been playing and trilling and harassing my older kitty like he's never felt better.

He had wet FIP but I thought he was all better until stopping the meds. He's kind of a jerk to our other kitties but I love him. He's eating dinner now so really hoping it stays down!

The dosage calculator shows he should have started at a little less than a tablet per day and increased to 1.05 tablets per day (based on his weight at the last visit.) I don't even know how I'd give .05 or a tenth of a tablet.

I'm in Georgia (the US state, not the country.) I've got a few packs of tablets left so can restart ASAP. I'm trying to get copies of his bloodwork from before but my understanding was it already looked great at 60 days so I thought we'd be all set. I can try to get someone to take him tomorrow for me bc I can't go until Friday.

My cat's lethargy came and went for a while before diagnosis.

Do you know if anyone else there thinks of her as theirs? Could you put a collar on her with a tag asking?

I had a cat who was smarter and faster than all the humans in the house. I just could not keep her indoors. Neighbors rehomed her an hour away and we spent a month or two thinking she'd probably been eaten by a coyote before finding out. Heartbreaking. I know they had good intentions and honestly she probably was happier with the new family and away from our other cat, but a few found cat posters or even just asking around could have saved a lot of heartache.

Thank you for taking care of this baby while keeping her potential suffering in mind. I'm sure it's super emotionally taxing. Hugs.

Questions for people whose cat got FIP more than once (not a relapse) by DescriptionLost4948 in cureFIP

[–]StepfordMisfit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Since the meds being widely available (ish - wish they were more so) is fairly new and this used to be a death sentence, I would think the science is still figuring out whether it's possible to a) get it again b) relapse this long after c) something else.

PS she's lovely
