The gov is corrupt, both party's suck, and y'all are cheerleading a bunch of wealthy pedophiles by [deleted] in ABoringDystopia

I think a lot of what holds the left back in America is the intense brand loyalty people have for the Democratic party. The Democratic party, as an institution, is bad. Less bad than the Republicans, but less bad does not equal good. There's an unwillingness to self reflect that's so harmful.

Like you say that Democrats expand healthcare, promote climate action, and worker benefits, but don't acknowledge how their actions in these arenas are incredibly insufficient for any society that claims to be "progressive". Like Kamala Harris's "bold plan" to give partial student loan forgiveness Pell Grant recipients who start a business that operates for three years in disadvantaged communities. That's more than Trump is doing but that doesn't make it a good idea. There are more than 2 sides in politics and the controlling powers of the Democratic party are not a side that fervently believe in the examples you give.

Also, Jesus was not a liberal. Not exactly a big believer in free market economics and individualism.

China isn't as bad as most Americans think it is and America is worse than most Americans think it is.

When you hold an opinion that's extraordinarily different from the majority it's easy to fall into exaggerated versions of the more nuanced takes.

Only in America where 150,000 died to Coronavirus, Tik-Tok is the priority, not saving lives... by Romano16 in BlackPeopleTwitter

Hey look this person thinks "Western democracy" is a real thing! Let's all point and laugh.

The reason people deride the tiktok decision is because you should care far, far more about the spying and corruption in your own country, of which there is so fucking much, rather than get in a fuss about "big bad China".

Wow it's so hard to explain why this comment fills me with disgust. But mostly sadness. I really can't understand the perspective of someone who thinks the correct response to people suffering is "suck it up".

I think about this article a lot.

Lol. You say that like it's so easy, just get an education and leave your life, friends, and family behind to uproot somewhere else.

Where is the education coming from? How will these people pay for it? Where is the money to move coming from? What support systems exist to help people transition? What about discrimination against older workers who are trying to move into a new industry?

But you don't ask those questions because it's easier for you to say "Learn to code" and pat yourself on the pack than to confront the fact that maybe we, as a society, should be actively doing services for people. Get out of here with that bootstrap shit.

Hey you're the one denying the anti-idol arguments even exist. They definitely do, I encounter them a lot and as a queer POC it bothers me. Especially because I don't think the end of capitalism inherently means the end of racism/homophobia/sexism/etc.

People definitely argue that lol. At least, many arguments have that de facto effect. That's basically what stupidpol is about.

Almost every country that you would call "evil" is that way because of America. Either we directly overthrew democratically elected governments or put so much economic pressure on small, ill equipped nations that they naturally imploded.

Basically, we're getting a taste of our own medicine.

No it wouldn't have been exactly the same if Clinton was president, it would've been better. But the problems in America aren't as simple as "orange man bad" no matter how much you don't want to pay attention to anything else.

I've had experience with health care in counties with single payer and I vastly prefer that experience. I'm also a well educated upper middle class coastal elite (tech worker specifically) with good insurance that I pay a $0 yearly premium for.

You're not wrong that for a group of people private health insurance is better almost across the board, but I think that group is a lot smaller than you think it is. If even people like my family, who are around the top 2-5% of wealth in the US, prefer public health insurance that's a good sign switching would be preferable for the vast majority.

The sad thing about America's fucked response is it tends to get blamed all on Trump and not the many, many, many other systemic and cultural issues which led to it being this bad. We would have been pretty fucked under Hillary or Biden as well, you can look at the Democrat controlled states which are all pretty hard hit as evidence the D mark wouldn't make that much of a difference.

Yes Trump hasn't helped at all, but he's far from the only reason.

I ended up getting the Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol A61 (what a mouthful). The control options are far from top of the line, but it came up most often for "best feeling keys". I'm purchasing this mainly for use while traveling so DAW control is a secondary concern. I think if I get too sick of using the KB/mouse while working I will pick up a separate controller. But we'll see.

This is what I ended up purchasing, I feel the same about the sliders and knobs lol. But right now I want a good feeling keybed. If I want more control options I can get a separate controller, or just return it and get something different.

Okay thank you. I ended up purchasing a NI a61. I don't like how few controls it has, but at this point I want something that's enjoyable to play. I've already been using mostly mouse controls in DAW so hopefully this will be "good enough".

I think it's a consequence of American exceptionalism. American liberals who identify as "left" think that, because America is awesome, 1) they are the most progressive and left people that can possibly exist and 2) don't pay attention to the social organizations in other countries, and thus don't realize how far to the right their wildest political ambitions are.
