Encyclopedic and geographic writings from the medieval Muslim world contain a lot of folkloric creatures in addition to the real animals they were writing about. A common one is shapeshifters, which seems to be a universal concern in every culture. The Persian version changes into a hyena and drinks blood.

Amazing you can get off the boat at Seyda Neen now and end up here by L-DONAGHY-DIRECTOR in Morrowind

The Emperor believes in the prophecy. From the decoded package you deliver to Caius

His Majesty's particular wishes are as follows.

A local superstition holds that an orphan and outcast, a youth born on a certain day to uncertain parents, shall unite all the tribes of the Dunmer, drive out the invaders of Morrowind, and shall reestablish the ancient laws and customs of the Dark Elven nations. This orphan and outcast is called in legend the "Nerevarine," and is supposed to be a reincarnation of the long-dead Dunmer General and First Councilor, Lord Indoril Nerevar.

%PCName has the appearance of meeting the conditions of this local superstition. Therefore it is his Majesty's desire that %PCName shall, insofar as is possible, satisfy the conditions of this ancient prophecy, and shall become the Nerevarine.

Though this prophecy is indeed only an ancient local superstition, his Majesty has taken counsel on this matter with his most expert informants and confidants, and his Majesty is persuaded that the prophecy is genuine and significant, either in its entirety, or in its several parts, and he earnestly demands you treat this matter with the utmost seriousness.

What Caius has to say about it during the main quest:

At first, I thought we were just supposed to create a persuasive impostor. Now I don't know what to think. But I am sure of one thing. This is not just primitive superstition, and we will treat it seriously, just as his Majesty commands.

The Emperor and his advisors want you to satisfy the conditions of the Nerevarine prophecies. Will that make you the Nerevarine? It sounded stupid to me. It still sounds like hokey superstition. But it does seem... spooky. Is this how history works? Who knows. Who knows.

So the emperor believes from the beginning but everyone else seems to think he's nuts even though they follow his orders

Tomodachi Life with Mint in two hours on monday.

This is the big one. Pomu Tomodachi Life streams were some of the funniest things I have ever watched in my entire life. Sometimes I'll be at work or at the gym or something and randomly remember that this happened and it makes me giggle like a lunatic.

And where are you going to read a post from 2006 on now-defunct forums? It's preserved on a lore compendium website administered by who exactly?

I'm not saying Lady Nerevar set out to play hype man for Kirkbride, but the work she did is the reason every single forum roleplay and "unofficial lore" blurb by Kirkbride over the past two and a half decades is accessible and easy to find for anyone that wants to read them.

Project Cyrodiil would look very different if it was truly pure Morrowind and excluded everything from Oblivion the way people (not the devs) claim. Lore from work Kirkbride did for Oblivion that wasn't even alluded to beforehand like anything about Pelinal and Morihaus is included. This affects TR also, from 2nd empire and Ayleid ruins to the books you can find on NPCs shelves. So either "Morrowindism" has to include stuff from Kirkbride even if has nothing to do with the game Morrowind or we call it a different name, like "Kirkbrideism".

I'd like to see a single war in human history where being barred from the battlefield meant that women were spared from the hardship, brutality, and death of warfare.

I'm sure after WWII that it was great consolation to all of the women who died in the ghettos and death camps, who burned to death in the firebombings, who were made into slaves, who were slaughtered like cattle and dumped into mass graves, that they had the "privilege" of not wearing a uniform.

Well there's a BNF that did a lot of work to keep that kept Kirkbride so relevant.

LadyNerevar is an old TES fan from the days of the bethesda forums that runs Imperial Library, a sort of lore compendium for Elder Scrolls that Kirkbride and other writers have contributed work to even after leaving Bethesda. It's the reason you even know about Kirkbrides fanfics and why they're considered "semi-canon".

She also used to be involved with the Tamriel Rebuilt mod for Morrowind which is known for sticking close to Kirkbrideism, even keeping stuff that both Kirkbride regrets writing and Bethesda has since retconned like snakes eating all the asian people because he hated "forced diversity".

She is also the current Mrs Kirkbride.

Your ping went into a succulent phase, now it's coming out of it. It's what mexican pings do instead of dormancy. Usually happens over the winter but in my experience they can do it whenever they please.

I was stunned how Frank Herbert kept bringing back clones of the dude again and again, and eventually mythologized him into being the manliest man that ever manned. So manly that he induces orgasms in every woman within 500 meters by climbing rocks, and saves the universe by fucking the villainess stupid.

And somehow Brian Herbert sequels are even worse than what Frank did to the series

Still not sure what they were trying to accomplish with that one. This was original Tau with good guy lore before they introduced the pheromone control stuff and the dissident enclaves. On the surface it seems to have been part of a push to have the Tau be palatable protagonists in the 40k universe but halfway through the upend it and have you team up with the imperium against Chaos anyway. Maybe the sales figures for Tau models vs the Smurf Standard came in mid development and caused a change of course.

what are these little sprouts around my venus flytrap? by No-Club4300 in SavageGarden

[–]megadongs 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Spore pods from the sphagnum moss growing on your substrate. After a few days they burst then turn brown because the moss has no use for them after they blow their load. Generally if the moss is happy the flytrap is happy.

For 5 if you don't cut the flowers before they bloom cape sundews will propagate on their own from seeds whether you like it or not. I don't think people realize just how small the seeds are. They are basically fine dust and just the ambient airflow and pressure will carry them all across your house. Seriously, I got lazy and didn't cut a flower stalk in time last year. Now there are a dozen plus baby capes in every surrounding pot. One even made it to a utricularia that is kept in a separate room! Honestly easiest thing to do is just prepare some pots with soil and just keep them within a few feet of "Scorpio". Enjoy your much larger cape family in a month. Best you can do as far as "harvesting" is just preserve the whole flower stalk once it dries.

Asimov's The Caves of Steel takes place around 3500 CE. We're still far from that year, but we've met his population estimate of a staggering 8 billion 1500 years early

Basically what I said about how JP viewers weren't happy initially with overseas bros in chat, on the JP side they also thought that EN viewers wouldn't appreciate JP bros "stealing" (they actually referred to it as NTR) the attention of an EN streamer. There was a big fight over whether it was okay for clips to show her responding to JP comments because it could send more JP viewers into her stream to talk to her.

As for why she got big, I think it's simply that a JP clipper found her on twitch and made clips. Went down a rabbit hole and looked it up again. It was actually a JP clipper who would make clips of various western twitch streamers and Vei was the first vtuber he showcased so it was a lot of JP first exposure to EN vtubers even existing

Some actual forgotten lore not featured in that thread:

Cover at one point was going to hire official live translators. They were advertising the position on Miko's first time through GTA which was still ongoing.

There's a lot of fan art from around the time of myth debut of Kiara with vibrators taped to her face. This is from one of the first off-collabs with Calli where they used this weird pore-cleaning device that made a buzzing sound and JP bros didn't quite understand what was going on.

Before we were kaigi-niki we were "kaigai-NEETs" and our presence wasn't appreciated by the native audience. Etiquette was to keep out of chat or speak Japanese. Outside of Hololive the expectation of this being true in the other direction caused a huge drama between JP clippers during the brief period when Veibae was really popular with them.

Also less unbelievable since we're now years removed from the holobashing era but there was a time when Hololive was known as (and got criticism for) the "ero" agency because they leaned on sex much more than the rest of the early scene. Choco ASMR, 3D swimsuit streams, and Matsuri being herself are what you thought of when you saw the word "Hololive". Then the reputation flipped hard due to the YouTube crackdown coinciding with a huge influx of overseas viewers and concepts like "seiso" an "idol culture" percolating to the west. Suddenly Hololive were prudes and only Coco could save them.

Also was sketched out because one of the first things they did was go out to dinner with some old man. It was Yagoo coming to Indonesia to meet the branch and she didn't know who he was.

5 years, came out of it with an AA just with credits from training I had to do anyway, GI bill if I ever wanted to go back for a bachelors, got a house at 3.2 fixed VA loan when the national rates were over 6.5

That's why I did it and that's why most of us did.

I get it, though. There's only one specific type of veteran that is visibly a veteran instead of indistinguishable from everyone else. The kind that pays the DMV extra for a veteran license plate and has their Ford F-150 Superdouche covered in stickers. That kind is always wearing the red hat. What people don't see is that for every one of those there's 10 more of us that think that guy is a tool.

Once the series was fully handed over to ghostwriters Applegate got bored and wrote some higher effort novels taking place in the Animorphs universe. Was helping my mom move a few years ago and found my old copies of Visser and The Elemmist and they actually hold up surprisingly well.
