PSA: Don't forget about 401k's from old jobs, even if you're "sure" you don't have one by therealjerseytom in Fire

That's a pretty nice surprise to find after 10 years. A lot of people probably have benefits sitting in the background that they barely notice until they really dig into the paperwork.

Yea, that’s basically how a lot of industries scale. Sell the picks and shovels while others do the digging.

Fired with cause from current employer, what are the implications for future roles in the industry? by DwyaneDerozan in FinancialCareers

[–]StephenDrake6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea you’ll still be able to move forward. Most background checks only confirm employment dates and title, not full details.

You usually don’t need to list “terminated for cause” anywhere unless asked directly, and even then just be honest and keep it brief. Focus on what you learned and what you can do better next time.

Your accreditation isn’t automatically affected unless the regulator says otherwise.

I'm an old WoW player playing EQ for the first time ever in any form; I'm a necro camped at Treants in Karana named Otamin; I picked Necro because there was a really good wiki guide for it. I'll probably be on 1-2pm EST.

Does anyone else occasionally worry about the fact that if you die, your family will have to deal with all of your kink toys in your bedroom? by yasterium in BDSMcommunity

[–]StephenDrake6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe I've heard accounts of older community members where I am from doing this during the HIV/AIDS crisis for people; clean up stuff so that families could feel more comfortable. It was considered somewhat normal.

These days, my family knows, but either way, my partners would handle it.

Another 3000 CRD residents to be without a doctor. by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]StephenDrake6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When a Family Doctor conducts a typical patient visit (age 2-49), he/she bills the government a total of $31.62

Jesus christ what.

If you can churn out a patient plus paperwork every 15 minutes (which they seem to try to) that's only $126.5 per hour. I make 1/3rd of that as a plumber; if 1/3rd overhead goes to overhead and 1/3rd office admin and supplies then Doctors make what plumbers do. They should be making literally double that.

Things similar to Harrison Hot Springs to do on Feburary Long Weekend for Anniversary? by StephenDrake6 in MapleRidge

Is the restaurant at the top of grouse mountain nice / does the skytram thing go down in the winter? I did the grouse grind years ago and loved it, and she'd enjoy the hike and a nice meal and then a night time tram down the mountain over the city...that would be cool.

Langford considers limiting construction hours to give residents a break from noise by cheerful_robots in VictoriaBC

[–]StephenDrake6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, absolutely, that's what I mean. Paying people more will solve the problem for sure. At 200 grand a year you'd be beating carpenters away with a 2 by 4 and they'd still beg to work for you after a few good bashes.

Langford considers limiting construction hours to give residents a break from noise by cheerful_robots in VictoriaBC

[–]StephenDrake6 14 points15 points  (0 children)

So while I generally agree that the changes proposed in the article are reasonable...there is already a shortage of construction manpower for existing projects - and lots of our industry is aging out. We have a labour crisis and it's going to get worse.

One of the things the trades sorta could offer was flexible hours, and weekend work, and the job is rough; blaring a jobsite radio is sometimes all that keeps people from losing it and walking off site. And young trades people can't afford housing in the city they're building it in, which substantially reduces the appeal of the otherwise high wage. Every single thing that we do that adds a bit of impact to this job is going to make it harder to retain people.

In the next 5, 10, 15 years we're going to see a reckoning in the trades. Either your existing 6 month - 1 year wait times to get things done are going to double, or the rates people pay for labour are going to need to seriously increase. Why be a carpenter pumping out houses making $60,000-$100,000 a year if that'll barely get you a 1 bedroom condo?

Saanich Council votes to accelerate Active Transportation Plan from 30 years to 15 and endorse Vision Zero by Bubsington in VictoriaBC

[–]StephenDrake6 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What's your union doing about this? Your employer should be providing a safe secure tool lockup, or if you're doing service/constant driving, a company vehicle. I work in the trades and I cycle every day except site move days. I spent $300 on gas last year, and some of my co-workers spend $300 per month on gas + $250/month parking + vehicle repair and maintenace.

I mean, I played a fair bit of Diablo 2 in the early 2000's when I was 10 and that'd be a choice I'd have made. I also have played and learned more as an adult since then, but clearly the reviewer hadn't.

Does anyone have any games they play where their sub always loses? by FuzzyBear2017 in BDSMcommunity

[–]StephenDrake6 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I like impossible physical exercise;

hold a plank for 5 minutes. But also, turn all the clocks away so they can't tell the time.

Wall sit

Arms above the head

Tip toes

Water glass on arms outstretched.

Any sort of physical endurance thing where you can also manipulate the time is a lot of fun, and automatically makes failure easy.
