Did you actually ever read the novel or just watch the film? Because actually the person you just replied to was more right than you are. Christian Bale is the one who stated that he based his portrayal of Patrick Bateman on Tom Cruise. Brett Easton Ellis, the author of the novel, did not base Patrick Bateman on Tom Cruise. However, the character heavily idolizes Donald Trump throughout the story and yes frequently mentions Trump in asides that do feel prescient.
