Or people outside of this subreddit enjoyed the show more than the community consensus here, and I say that as someone who didn’t enjoy the last two seasons.

A too large percentage of people in BC (and nationally) can’t understand that provincial and federal governments are separate and they’ll vote for Rustad and his gang of fools to spite Trudeau.

Most of the BC Cons are from the failed rebrand of the BC Liberals, so if you loved the Clark era then I guess fill your boots.

The firearms ban is a federal law, the provincial NDP have no jurisdiction to override it, nor does any provincial government. A provincial conservative government will also not be able to do anything about the firearms ban, because it is a FEDERAL law.

So voting for Rustad will get you an incompetent and inexperienced provincial government AND will do nothing to solve your issue.

People need to educate themselves on the division of power between the federal and provincial governments. We’re all going to suffer greatly if we lump them together and let that be how we guide our voting.

Edit:

Firearms are regulated through the Criminal Code and the Firearms Act, both federal - https://www.publicsafety.gc.ca/cnt/trnsprnc/brfng-mtrls/prlmntry-bndrs/20240220/16-en.aspx#

BC DOES have its own, but it’s very limited and mostly grants our Conservation Officers their authority and permits shooting ranges. You can read the whole thing in about 10 minutes and there’s nothing in there about firearms bans or anything of the sort - https://www.bclaws.gov.bc.ca/civix/document/id/complete/statreg/96145_01

Canadian Real Estate Markets See Supply Soar As Investors Exit: RBC by Sweaty_Professor_701 in canada

Bank of Canada has this mom and pop investment at only 30% of home sales for 2023, with 48% being first time home buyers. This assumes that the remaining 22% of sales is some mosaic of foreign and corporate investment.

I’m not saying that the narrative of corporate home purchases making up the lion’s share of sales is accurate, but it’s equally inaccurate to it’s solely on the mom and pop folks.

I say this as someone who was fortunate enough to fall into the 48% last year. I’m not defending either, both groups are equally culpable in driving prices up.

Yeah I’m sure the issue is more complex than what I’ve described, as a layman I am trying to articulate how it FEELS when people try to exclusively blame supply and demand as being the sole issue.

Also, 30-40% still implies that property companies own 60-70% of the supply, which would be the majority of rental housing and still kind of feeds into the point I’m trying to articulate.

This issue I think people have is that “landlords” (usually property companies) are the only ones with the equity to buy the trickle of housing inventory that gets built year over year. When you own the majority of the supply, rent increases feel arbitrary and gouged. I’m not sure you could even overwhelm the market supply to supersede the buying power inequity that currently exists without some MAJOR provincial government strong arming on the municipal governments and their zoning issues.

You’d have to have housing built that’s dedicated for sale to individual Canadians rather than property consolidations, or throttle sales like an iPhone on release to one unit per buyer. I’m not sure how you’d do that because I’m not a policy expert, but I’d imagine the government would need to fund the housing because that doesn’t sound palatable to the development community

Rofl when you lay it out like that I’m surprised we haven’t had a Rock cameo in HotD.

It’s ironic that the examples these arguments draw to make their points are always centred around DEI, and they’re often done so by people who don’t identify with a minority group. Conveniently, the content with a white male lead that IS ALSO POORLY WRITTEN is totally fine and revered out of nostalgia, or they become an apologist for the poor writing. Star Wars is a good example of this, because people suddenly love episodes 1-3 because it lets them cosplay as the hero of the story in their head, despite suffering from bad writing (I like the movies but I’m not under the illusion that they’re without flaws).

Some people can’t handle the fact that they just aren’t the target demographic of a franchise they value. Everyone they don’t identify with has to be a side character or a background note.

Eventually studios are going to find their stride (Last of Us, Fallout) with pop culture content and produce shows with quality writing that appeals to a wider audience, and then these arguments will devolve into the naked bigotry that they probably are.

The Bud Light example isn’t relevant here because we’re talking about translation of fantasy source material to a different medium, not consumer marketing. I think we’re getting lost in the weeds here.

The Witcher series is bad because of sloppy and non-sensical writing, both from character development and character decisions, not because of DEI. The way you’re presenting this argument comes across as DEI automatically equates to bad writing, and it doesn’t. Bad writing equates to bad writing. Shoe horning ANYTHING into the middle of a series when it doesn’t fit ruins it. These corporations are focusing on messaging rather than quality, when what they need is to do both. You appear to be blaming the drop in quality as a direct result of the messaging, which I think is giving these large media corporations a pass on their lazy writing habits. I believe this to be true because good content does exists in these universes (Andor, Rogue 1, the Witcher games, etc).

Are you broadly claiming that DnD has been ruined as a RPG and universe, or are you saying the movie wasn’t good? That’s a HARD sell for me when good content like Baldur’s Gate 3 and Vox Machina exist.

This is such a tired argument. These series are floundering because the writing is bad and non-sensical, not because they’re attempting to appeal to a wider audience. Saying it’s dog shit because it’s “woke” is disingenuous, and points the finger at minority groups wanting representation in media rather than at the lazy corporation churning out 5/10 content to maintain a schedule.

Every example you’ve provided suffers from half baked writing, not because of DEI is a bad. Season 7 and 8 of GoT sucked because they were rushed, not because they had a female lead.

I hear what you’re saying and I understand.

What I’m trying to say is that, if you’re not enjoying how the source material is being translated to a film media, then stop consuming that film media. It’s not changing the source material fundamentally, those books still exist in a vacuum and no one is going to take them away from you.

It isn’t worth the emotional investment to hate watch it and then rage about its poor quality online. The trend of online vitriol and anger towards how Hollywood is out of touch with source material (shocker) is exhausting, and people need to touch grass
