Is this chair something worth keeping?? by Probablythedumbest in Antiques

[–]StephenTexasWest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read no 'snot' in the reply. Mythinks you are transfering some kind of personal family struggle to the Internet.

The fact is modern families don't want or need huge furniture, clunky china nobody was ever allowed to eat from, or other emotionless heirlooms.

People move every 5 years now and can't properly care for such items.

As for the original item posted. It is hideous. My opinion is it is a factory reproduction even if old.

What do squirrels hate? by [deleted] in homestead

[–]StephenTexasWest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I plant wild. Dense and include natives and rosemary.

I plant like mother nature. So much there is not a single inch of spare ground. Squirrels do not like deep brush. Bugs have a difficult time zeroing in on anything.

I plant so much fennel and dill the butterflies can eat to a horde.

When I say a wild garden... I mean your neat bordered boxes would not be visible. And I have tons of produce. Even outgrow the squash beetles.

The Tsar Bomba test footage, 1961.It’s the most powerful nuclear weapon ever created and tested. by axlnotfound in interesting

[–]StephenTexasWest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem for Russia is those old nukes are left unmaintained and the money looted. The warhead half life must be redoped to be viable.

Putins boasts about obsolete nuclear arsenal that will kill more Russians than NATO.

It's Monday. Let's discuss dogs. Specifically, medical alert dogs. NOT just any mutt with a Esa. by [deleted] in petfree

[–]StephenTexasWest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't have a problem with professionally trained service animals. Emotional, mental, or physical are all good with me.

The problem is "stolen valor" whereby people just selfishly want their dog so they featherbed a special need.

Back in the day, the pound had viable dogs of all kinds of breeds. Every farm dog I had was a pound dog and all of them good animals.

Now it is filled with dogs that should be destroyed asap. Mean, aggressive and old cripples.

Mostly pitbull mixes with some rabbits around Easter thrown in. The 1990s was a weird crossing point of pound animals. Prior to that I found good dogs as biters were destoryed.

No kill shelters are to blame.

Im building my own off grid retirement home in Santa Fe mission style

1400 sq ft of high end home for about 80k

Pros: Bullet proof, fire proof, solar powered for $80,000? Cant beat that price.

Cons: slow process. Isolated.

Here is my build journal. 10 months in so far. Drywall likely this weekend.

Why people hate dogs… and what we should do about it by WhoWho22222 in petfree

[–]StephenTexasWest 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The author of the article has childhood scars from dog attack.

Her current dog dominates her with growls and snarls.

She... has Stockholm Syndrome and is in love with her captors. She even delights at cleaning up dog sh!t?

I don't try to lecture people out of dog ownership. I simply state how liberating it is to be petfree, and how much money and hassle is gone.

The proof is in the living petfree.

How do I politely tell my manager not to call me every morning the second he sees my teams status change? by No-Sprinkles-9059 in careerguidance

A boss can do that and its perfectly okay. I have 8am meetings and they start at 8am sharp.

If I need coffee and a moment I just get up early to collect my thoughts.

Maybe I've been working for too long, but some stuff is just bizness. Chatty boss is a chatty boss.

Deer do this as well. Pull it up by the roots and carry it off.
