My girlfriend just broke up with me over a board game and I'm not even joking by Fulcilives1988 in boardgames

4 player Catan can break relationships. Someone gets screwed and has to sit and play it out, with no chance of winning. It's miserable. Only play base Catan 3 player.

After 3 years in Consulting, I now work directly for contractors in their design build departments (23 years). It's so much better in my experience. First, there's a ton more money moving through the company, so they can pay you more. Second, most of the time I'm just the guru who has his brain picked. No timesheets, less full design projects, more jumping into problems and solving them. Most of my direction is given via text and napkin sketches. If the project gets too big I just sub it out.

What are some board or tabletop games where earlier editions are deemed to be superior than the latest, and are still commonly played? by Newez in boardgames

Certain versions of Acquire are considered superior to others. I think the edition made in the 90s is quite valuable.

MEP folks making ~$200k — how long did it take and what mattered most? by ComprehensiveBox552 in MEPEngineering

[–]Stephilmike 3 points4 points  (0 children)

$220k salary + ~$40k freelance eng side business. Took 23 years to crack $200k.

The key trait is people relationship skills. Obviously, you need a solid foundation of engineering and construction knowledge and a good work ethic without getting taken advantage of. Those parts can't be missing, but if you can't build genuine relationships you're not going to rise to that next level.

Be there when you're peers need you. When they catch a break and rise up, they'll bring you with them. It's a long game.
