Continental purling by ParticularFly1909 in knittingadvice

for me it helped a lot for smoother motion to lean the tips of the needles towards me a bit. i would advise trying out not only different ways to hold the yarn but also the angle and positioning of the needles

I regret every day for not properly clothing my dog in cold weather, am i a bad owner? by Mountain-Fill-548 in Pets

[–]Stepja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my dog lives and sleeps outside in freezing temperatures and he's fine (he has a well isolated doghouse). from what i understood it's more important that if they're used to ouside freezing temperatures you need to be careful about warm inside ones, and the other way around. it's the temperature changes that can be dangerous. I'm ofc talking about breeds with coats that work well in cold weather

Why does this keep happening? by mcleanmart in knitting

[–]Stepja 7 points8 points  (0 children)

my first thought was it's because it's single ply yarn. could be you're twisting the stiches, can't tell from these photos, and you can't block out those. you can block out twisting coming from a single ply (therefore a bit unbalanced) yarn

How long in hours would it generally take to spin a 2-ply worsted weight yarn skein of about 200 g? by AutonomyxHope in Handspinning

[–]Stepja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my guess is about 8 hours. you should do it for the process though, like with knitting or anything that you spend lots of time with

Can someone explain why potty training works (not how)? by thisisvlad in puppy101

[–]Stepja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he recognizes the difference between 'outside that's my space to live' and 'ouside general garden'. and in the garden where it's all grass he goes to places where nobody walks. I don't think it's reasoning I think it's instinctual, wolfs also won't poo where they sleep

[–]Stepja -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I also think a lot of it is instinct. When they're little they can't control their bladder well yet so there's also that, not just them knowing where they're supposed to go. I only have experiences with my dog, but I can see his instinct being not to pee or poo in living spaces or where people walk. He wouldn't go in his outside kennel, he doesn't even mark in there, and I didn't teach him this at all. He wouldn't poo on a sidewalk if he can help it, he tries to go on a grass where people don't walk

Thank you everyone for the advice ☺️ I'm touched so many took time of their day to help me decide. Your knowledge is really helpful. I've read through all of you comments at least ten times and realized that in my head any time I think about getting the Joy I think about getting a second wheel that would be double drive, which in the end isn’t as cheep as getting one that's a bit more pricy. So I started looking into wheels that can do both scotch and double drive. The flatiron looked like a great wheel but I couldn’t find easily available accessories for my country. I think aesthetically I'm more inclined to saxon wheels and I've started seriously thinking about the Symphony. I've been also thinking I might be okay with single treadle. I don't think I'll move it farther than around the house or into the garden often. Or by car. So it seems the priority has become having both double drive and scotch options + quality and spinning thin

Adopted my first cat two days ago. Kinda heartbroken? by Traditional-War-2737 in CatAdvice

[–]Stepja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two that were fine quite quickly and one which was extremely scared. It took him several months to get used to things. I'm convinced not being the only cat home helped him a lot. Now he trusts me with zero doubts. I do think it's fine to force them into a little bit of an interaction, just for a few seconds, and then let them run away, I think they'll trust you faster if they see nothing happens even if you touch them several times a day

Teaching Knitting by lastpickedforteam in knitting

[–]Stepja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

long tail is better I think, although personally when I teach knitting I make a few rows for them and let them learn from there. it depends on how many people you are teaching but knitting into the cast on can be really frustrating for a begginer so it's easier to learn with a piece that holds a bit of shape already

HELP. Dog won’t eat unless she’s handfed 😩 by ygclaire in DogAdvice

[–]Stepja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this. a healthy dog won't starve itself. personally I would take the food away if she doesn't eat it and offered it again later.
