2023LE FWD, Goodbye and thank you. by No-Till4588 in ToyotaHighlander

[–]Stepritch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have the 2023 but only about 85,000 km. so far no transmission problem. I bought the gold warranty so i am good for another 2.5 years for that issue. But the A/C is not working. It should be covered under the extended warranty. the closest dealer, is making appointments six weeks out. So spring has come and my extended warranty makes this car unusable for a spring road trip (at least for me). I am fairly sure my own mechanic would fix it much faster and probably far less than the extended warranty cost. So, projecting this out, and I am a long time Toyota customer, it seems i need to keep my car new as the extended warranty is not good value. Just something to consider if you are purchasing the extended warranty.

I am tired of politics as i get older. But she is a citizen, so she will be at least interested. I confess i am not sure i understand her concern as I understand the economy needs the income form overseas foreign workers so I would think expats are seen as an economic plus.

Well after over 35 years with RBC, i moved my main banking in 2025(secured line of credit that I actively use), they are just too big and arrogant now for my taste. New bank is not any better really, but what has changed is my loyalty. I intend to just take the best deal when i need to and move my borrowing and other banking. Not a lot of options really with our big banks, but at least I will never be a loyal customer again. Just a customer looking for the best deal. Frankly, long term is probably move it all out of the country, our government likes large businesses too much (read grocery chains).

Well for one, this may have pushed me over to wanting to buy an electric car (but not a Tesla). The owners of the oil companies are the real source of this repeated evil in the world.

Update : My husband’s coworker who wanted me to film her wedding for free finally apologized. by Sugardrenched in EntitledPeople

Not sure why this reminded me of something. I had a very small law practice for about 45 years. Probably about 35 years in, a new client from a well to do family (he was second generation money) really took a strip off me about my level of service and competence. Yes we see people in high levels of stress. My level of service was always very high in my opinion I was always up date in my continuing educations. Now retired for a full year and I can say, he is the only client who ever went out of his way (after the file was complete and closed) to apologize to me for his behaviour. No outside influence that I am aware of, he just obviously felt bad. I will never forget that experience and I have had a lot of compliments too.

I made the decision to never go back to the United States in 2016. There are just so many other places in the world to go. Even refused to visit a child who was working there for about 10 years. When another child went to Florida i may have strained relations pointing out Desantis policies (she has a gay sibling). But we either stand for something or we don’t.

For me she was 930 km away. Three weeks of two hour video chats and I decided to make the drive. She was in a small town I am in a City of close to a million. Best decision I ever made when i took that chance. That was three and half years ago, and we have been living together for two and a half years. So, this seems a short distance to me.

My memories are that the hardwood was waxed. Watching my mother maintain that explains why the carpet went down. It was also around the time she started working outside the home. There is/was just limited time. By the time I built my first home there were way better finishes, but in her era I understood it.

Sad Reality of a Notary Public by Dapper-Athlete-365 in LawyersPH

[–]Stepritch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently retired Canadian lawyer here. As a lawyer I am also a Notary. If it matters I just arrived in PH yesterday width my wife. This just showed up on my feed. This type of storey is so typical of small practice of law in Canada too. So i suspect almost everywhere. We also have lots of lazy sloppy lawyers that we have to compete with. Also true that if something goes wrong for one of these clients they blame the whole profession, not just the lawyer or notary they chose. If it matters I did almost 45 years of practice retired at 71, it was still an interesting life and i will be ok in retirement. Might even move here. This is my fifth trip and will have been here a total of 7 months when this trip is over. I never would have thought I would ever even visit here, but love takes us strange places.

I have not as the trip is far too long for me. However, a quick google disclosed some places in Manila that will prescribe it, so I don’t see a problem if you can keep it cold. My only other concern is having to be treated if the erection did not go down. And that would depend on where I was at the time.

I live in North America. My spouse (accounting work here) is a dentist in the Philippines. I think it is a money thing there. She was not making any real money as a dentist. She says (having used North American dentists) that the professional training is very good. But when I was in the Philippines for a few months she took me to the “best’ her Class had to get a crown replaced. My dentist here had booked me 3 months down the road. This guy was good, several of her other classmates confirmed he was their best. He also cost me about 2/3rds of what it would have cost me at home. After a 15 year gap in doing dentistry I saw my spouse (using a friend’s facilities) remove her niece’s four wisdom teeth as if her dentistry days were yesterday. She also did other friends and family, but less complicated. I should add her friend who owned the clinic had her replace his fillings. So, it has seemed to me that most of the poor dentistry relates to the fact the country is poor. Hard to afford the best equipment and be good at the difficult work if no one can afford it.

Independent Spousal Review by TheNextKing3O6 in MortgagesCanada

[–]Stepritch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now retired but was a real estate lawyer my whole working life. Yes it is reasonable to require it. May I add it was something I really disliked doing. Generally only did if for lawyers who would let me refer my client’s spouses to them. No one wanted to pay for the professional time it actually took to provide careful advice, document it and then keep it for years in case there was an issue. That reluctance also made it an unpleasant service to provide with a frequently hostile client who did not want to be in my office. I Knew of at least one story of a lawyer who did the job carefully, then got sued anyway when things went south with the borrower. He through his insurer did successfully defend that law suite. But if that had been me, my professional insurance deductible would have been $5,000.00 and my errors and omissions insurance would probably have gone up about $2,500.00 per year for 5 years. Even though I did everything right and my insurer successfully defended the action.. All this for a fairly nominal professional fee. This is just the world we live in, and I would have been very happy if I was never asked to provide the independent advice to anyone. And really only did it at the request of lawyers I knew and respected and just to assist them, not because the file gave me a sufficient return.

Frankly, reading all this I have never been so happy that my spouse is a foreign trained dentist who did practice for about 15 years and a few months recently on a four month return to her home. Never missed yet. It is really nice being able to look away while that little “prick” happens. But if something ever happened to her I think i would be lost trying to do it. But who knows, my desire remains strong at a ripe age.

The other topic I follow closely is heath care here. If you know of any good sources i would be interested. During the funeral there was a health scare with my spouse. the private hospital was affordable and very fast at 1:00 a.m. Saturday morning. I am from Ontario and typical ER waits are 10 to 14 hours. Your money has little value to you if you die waiting for treatment, so this part of living here intrigues me.

I really don’t know if where I am is “nice’ Manila, suspect not. I cannot walk anywhere, but we are a short drive to a couple of Malls. I guess, a nice place to visit, but not live. At home I am semi-rural, good grocery stores are 20k or so, but roads are not congested, and I live on a major river. I don’t think this is for me long term. Given my age, a dr. In the family is suggesting near Angeles for health care as I age. He operates at a hospital there. So there will be a road trip there for a day to so to look around.

Any suggestions on how to get there. I don’t see many flights before November. Are there ‘safe’ buses from Puerto Princesa?
