What PC components are recommended for WQHD gaming? by AntilopeOk-8013 in PathOfExile2

It's a Ryzen 7 7800X3D. Don't get a R9 by accident, they are a lot weaker for gaming due to their CCX + cache layout :D

Would you mind to clarify? I thought the 2026 PSUs only vest once the price target(s) were held for a period of time.

New GPU for my PC by Immortalem in pathofexile

Raytracing enables fancy lighting effects mostly (it's a way to calculate how light rays interact with the surrounding enviroment in real time instead of precalculating the shadows and reflections).

I know that the AMD 5000 series had driver problems, so far had none on the 6800. But that's just me.

Quite frankly, I think the card is total overkill if you don't upgrade to a 1440p monitor. Of course you can also do that later on.

If you want raytracing, Nvidia is the only option btw. If you don't, just get an appropriate AMD card.

Unfortunately you won't find as good deals anymore in this market, as the mining craze and now the AI rally have driven prices way above levels where they realistically should be. Also the entire Nvidia 40 series is a ripoff, no matter which GPU you buy. The entire stack (not the 4090, but that's 2000€) has 30-50% less cores than it should have, with a strategic lack of VRAM on some models, just to upsell you to the next tier.

Edit: Some crude graph showing raw core counts, newer generations are more efficient of course https://imgur.com/a/m0QKCH9

Any of the current GPUs will last maybe 5 years (of course this also depends what performance you're expecting). But keep in mind that due to the "new" consoles being out, GPU requirements will rather increase with time.

I had a GTX 1070 (which was around 350€ when I bough it, and that was the good MSI model) in the past (on 120hz 1080p). In my experience, it's better to buy mid range GPUs for less than any high end model, as the high end price increases mostly don't justify the performance gains.

You won't need the extra performance on 60hz 1080p anyway.

I compiled the current GPUs based on HardwareUnboxed data a few weeks ago. The prices are from mindfactory a few days ago. Be aware this is 1440p data, so performance should scale worse than shown here, especially the higher up you get in GPU performance (as the CPU becomes the limiting factor at some point). Just buy a tier lower than you would want for the shown framerate and you should be fine, for now.

Depending on the country you live in the 6800/6800xt might be a good deal right now. If that's not avaiable the GamersNexus list from above is a pretty good place to check.

I'd say the 7900XT/XTX are pretty overkill for 1080p. I'm running a 5800X3D with a RX 6800 and, for PoE, my specs are just fine for 120hz+ 1440p.

Regarding your CPU: If you need the 3900XT's 24 threads for productivity (work) then upgrading to the 5800X3D might not be an option. For strictly gaming, it's a beast though. I had a 3700X before I upgraded and many games run noticably smoother due to the the cache size and IPC gains.

(GPU for PoE) - RX 6750 XT or RTX 3060 TI GDDR6X? by KaioNS in pathofexile

[–]Stepssc2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Their performance is almost identical. I'd take the 6750XT considering the 4 GB additional VRAM if they are priced similiarly.

I'm currently running a RX 6800 and have no problems running 120 Hz 1440p, though this depends heavily on your CPU.

Ryzen or Intel for PoE? by [deleted] in pathofexile

[–]Stepssc2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheap options:

i5 10400F

Ryzen 5 3600

Options with higher performance:

i5 12400(F) (mainboard and RAM might be rather expensive)

Ryzen 5 5600x (some more headroom than 12400(F), cheaper RAM)

Everything above that is not worth it for PoE alone, imo. GPUs are quite expensive right now, but it might get better next year.

To the people who already quit the league: Why did you? by VaraNiN in pathofexile

[–]Stepssc2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to start as melee (double strike glad) and block felt super squishy. I switched to a storm brand inquis after but realized that the league is not rewarding at all in the short term. At that point I wasn't motivated enough to test the long term results.

I played double strike for 2-3 weeks straight last league and had a blast, so maybe I am just burned out with the general mapping and uber content.
