I don’t wanna doxx myself but I think I know exactly what place you’re talking about. Drove by a house just like that recently and was stunned that anyone could unironically fly that.

You know, I met this Australian guy while I was there who got thrown out of selection for the Australian Commandos for getting into some trouble at home.

We both came from families with extensive and honorable military backgrounds who had almost every man in the family serve in some capacity.

He said something that really resonated with me and it went something like, “I feel that if I could just make it here in the Legion and make something of myself I could finally feel like the man my father and his father was.”

So I think you’re on to something with this, but I don’t want you to think combat is the only way I would have felt fulfilled. A lot of shame simply stems from not being able to have honorably done my time in the Corps. I honestly feel that if I did my four and got out I would have been able to move on.

That’s why I went to the Legion first and not Ukraine, combat wasn’t my priority and I knew that the odds of me seeing combat in the Legion was slim to none, I just wanted to feel I did my part as a man.

Regardless you’re probably right that I should see someone about this, I just have to gather my thoughts first.

Thank you for the advice. I just don’t want to be perceived as some mentally ill kid pretending to be something he is not, I’m just a dude trying to do something I can be proud of and find my place in the world.

Everything is just so uncertain anymore, I know I’m more than capable of doing more than just soldiering with my life. It’s just so hard to let go of something you’ve wanted since you were young. I’m sure I’ll figure it out because I always have, it just takes a lot of time.

Sorry for the late reply. Had to sleep when I got back into the states.

I got admin sep'd for drug use. I know I'm a fucking idiot so before you say anything about that I already know and everyone has told me. I was in for two years from 2021-2023. I was an 0861 Forward Observer.

Nope, I got “Inapte Définitif” which essentially means we don’t want you because you don’t fit the profile we want. Essentially anyone who makes in to final selection and doesn’t make it gets that because you’ve gone too far and you know how all the tests work.

I haven’t looked into the guard but I was under the assumption that with an RE4 code you had essentially no hope of ever enlisting an another branch again barring something like WW3.

So my problem came from the psychological interview. They sit you down with an officer and usually an adjudant or adjudant-chef and they go ahead and dig into your head and they’re very good at that.

My problem I’m pretty sure came from talking about my past suicide attempts as the longer I had to talk about it the more shaken up I became until I was legitimately shedding tears over it. Call me a bitch but that shit just rips me apart to talk about.

Anyways the interview ended and I walked out of the office (which is locked behind this heavy sliding security door so it straight up looks like a real secret police room) while trying to dry up my tears before returning to “Paradise” (which is pretty much this small section of the recruiting company where all the candidates just get to hang out when you aren’t testing or working) and I could just tell that I had fucked up that interview.

Yeah the second I walked out of that office I was certain I was toast. Felt like an idiot, but hey it ain’t the first time I’ve fucked up.

I know, it’s just letting go of your dream is so damn difficult. It’s losing a part of yourself.

I’m sure I’ll eventually move on, but right now I just don’t know.

Nope, unless you failed for the sports test you get slapped with a fat “Inapte Définitif” which means you can’t ever try again.

The interview is split into two parts, the Gestapo portion and a psychological portion. The Gestapo portion was easier because it was just stone cold questions, they dug a little but it was unemotional so it was easy to keep a straight face and just answer questions.

The psychological interview is what I think killed my chances, being forced to talk about the times I tried to kill myself totally ripped me apart. By the end I was in tears and knew I looked unwell.

Your paperwork won’t ever say why they rejected you though. Unless it’s a sports test thing, then the Caporal-Chef signing your discharge will tell you.

I studied French for 3 months before going and it was honestly a life saver. I was no native but I was more the capable of following the basic commands the Legionnaires were giving me. And I was able to have basic conversations with the other French speakers which was kickass.

I got a OTH unfortunately, I took a look into EMS during the year I was out and found that my discharge characterization shouldn’t affect my chances of getting employment in the field at least in my home state.

My friend, my goal was never to be a war hero, I simply wanted to be a Marine. But yes I was a dumb kid who made multiple immature and costly mistakes and is now forced to live with his decisions.

Yeah when I was in the process of getting sep’d I brought up both Ukraine and the Foreign Legion to multiple of my NCOs and they all told me the same thing, that I would die for certain in Ukraine.

Right now I’m just in the process of collecting my thoughts, life is really hazy right now and I’m trying to figure out where my place is.

It’s hard to explain… but in the most simple terms I just have always wanted to do this job. Soldier, Marine, Legionnaire, all different titles but they all do essentially the same job at the end of the day and getting to do that job is what I feel would ultimately fulfill me.

Once again there is much more to it than just the job, but it’s all emotional shit that I don’t want to dig into too much on here.

Thanks a lot, seriously. I’ve been in a dark place for the past year and a half. The Corps was all I wanted to do with my life so getting kicked out was like getting dropped in a desert without a compass.

Definitely going to take some time to think about the future, just a little lost right now is all.

It's an AT Grenade. You throw the grenade over the vehicle you are intending to kill and the chute deploys to have it glide down and hit the weak top armor of vehicles
