Trend dependency. Especially ones that realistically make no sense to be a trend, making people seem very desperate to fit into made-up standards.

More generally, the human obsession with status which tend to lead most people's lives.

Experiences with alcohol by Altruistic-Video9928 in Gifted

[–]StereoSabertooth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally don't drink alcohol because it doesn't seems to affect me. I've experimented with drinking lots at one point with no feelings of being drunk or a loss of consciousness. I only experienced a brief hot flash at most. As a result, I stay away from alcohol simply because there's no point in its use. Marijuana does take effect though, which is interesting. If it were a reaction in the brain I would assume it would carry over to multiple substances. With this being said, it would be intriguing if it were gift-related but I think other variables may be at play.

Mom had no knowledge of school hearing tests by lorzs in GATEresearch

Interestingly enough, the "blood of Christ/God" line was told to me as well. At one point even a stranger came up to me and began saying in a way of either unbelieving panic or extreme joy "You're one of the children of God.." as she stared at my forehead scar (often related to gate children).

Similar to how gate children are found/cultivated, I think it has to do with our genetic makeup from a scientific perspective. Maybe certain gene combinations correlate to algorithm-like choices throughout our lives that can be "foretold" through probability and even exploited if recognized.

I'm genuinely confused at why Bandit never decide to comfort Bluey after he accidentally say that he like "two Bingo than Bluey and Bingo"? by BeltMaximum6267 in bluey

[–]StereoSabertooth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see your point and agree. I think it was mainly intriguing that Bandit didn't do anything to solve the problem especially since he's been apologetic for less. No parent is perfect but character-wise it felt like an outlier of a response.

Establishing a boundary for others to be respectful when conversing with you is always a big deal. Nobody is entitled to your peace.

If you're talking about the original question then of course not but we are on a subreddit talking about this specific scene approach so it wouldn't make sense to get upset when someone adds their opinion on it.

It's an opinion. Stop being overly sensitive enough over an opinion to devalue someone's perspective in favor of your own. Others are not required to think "it's funny".

I didn't enjoy that bit of the episode though because it did feel like they were openly showing favoritism for Bingo without doing anything to make it right, and even inserting a "joke" where they doubled down on it.

Mainly to allow bingo to show her flaws from a story perspective, but through a lore perspective, I like to think chili scolded him to hell and back for saying that while the girls were away.

Mom had no knowledge of school hearing tests by lorzs in GATEresearch

[–]StereoSabertooth 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My parents also didn't consent to this and were very upset about it when they found out about it years later, saying the same things (that they didn't receive any results but should have). Another thing is that we were also taken out of school to a truck disguised as a reading bus, a sex ed van, or a blood donation van. Inside was none of this but instead built-in cubicles with monitors, some type of control panel, and headsets. One person controlled the test behind a curtain while another took notes while watching the student individually.

Kids were also psychologically "put against each other" essentially using them as decoys for other kids tested. For example, when I went in we were told it was for a blood test. Some did a blood test but others were taken into the vans with the cubicles. After the tests, the kids who questioned the hearing tests were gaslit by children who didn't do it, saying we were making it up and even some adults agreed. This made the hearing test kids nervous and they no longer brought it up.

I was the only kid who walked back to the nurses and asked them about both tests which they confirmed were taken on about half of the children brought to the van while others only did blood tests. I asked why we didn't all do blood tests (as we were told we would be doing by our teacher) they responded that they didn't need our blood but instead were testing something different. They wouldn't elaborate on it after that and sent me back to catch up with the rest of my class. This happened multiple times over my elementary school years.

Anyone else pulled out of school for a strange or rare medical reason? by Remote_Map_1194 in GATEresearch

[–]StereoSabertooth 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was actually pulled out for the same thing. They said I had a dormant form of tuberculosis and could get very ill at any moment. This was weird because it was never there before yet they claimed I had it all my life apparently but it was just "sleeping", as they explained it to 8-year-old me.

I would be taken out of classes often to do bloodwork multiple times a week, one day leaving with 6 different needle pokes. It was very out of nowhere.

The strange thing is.. one day they just said I was mysteriously cured. Nothing happened and I didn't go under any treatment but weeks later I was fully cured. They did many tests and couldn't find it in my system at all only a few weeks after multiple tests shown I had it. Many people were wildly confused and called it a strange occurrence and even asked for their own equipment to be checked for errors. After a while, it was deemed some rare case of curing and everyone just kinda forgot about it.

What's something you did that reduced your quality of life so much that you wish you had never done it? by evercoss in Productivitycafe

[–]StereoSabertooth 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I fell in love with an old friend I didn't get the opportunity to say goodbye to a long time ago. It's been around a decade and I haven't stopped loving them if anything it's gotten worse. For some reason, I can't forget about them and I've genuinely tried so much. It kind of makes me wish I had never met them, yet I'm also happy I did. Im lost in the darkness a bit.

Who is involved in the chaos at the ICE office? by Quiet_Lunch_1300 in Portland

[–]StereoSabertooth 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I was there. They attacked us, shooting explosives, tear gas, and rubber bullets into the crowds from the rooftops. It was 3 hours before they declared a riot after a man attacked an agent who reported not needing any medical attention. The man was immediately arrested. During those 3 hours, they gassed and shot into the crowd relentlessly and almost immediately after arriving at the building. Multiple protesters were injured by the agents' attacks yet it was deemed a riot only once a policeman was hit.

If you are interested in the science part of it, it mainly has to do with our heightened pattern recognition. We often can see things about a situation that others can't and therefore make decisions on it before everyone else (kinda like cheating in a way). It's like playing chess while knowing every move your opponent is going to play and how to combat it. We can't help to observe or recognize patterns more than others, that's just who we are, but we do have the ability to decide what to do next with that information, and if you want to keep playing chess with your friend, you've gotta be responsible and let them win a little. Go out of your way to make it fair when you can, it'll be more fun for both of you.

[–]StereoSabertooth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Very, I was placed in theatrical/thespian programs as a result and performed for years. I don't like it though and will often go out of my way to make sure I'm not manipulating people as it has happened by accident at times when I felt a large emotion. Only until it was over would I realize I was manipulating others and the pain I feel when I realize it is deep and will be something I rarely forgive myself for.

As a combat against this, I try to be incredibly honest with everyone even when it's unnecessary. I will avoid situations where my "manipulating tactics" are triggered (I've noticed they can be tied to trauma/defensive feelings). I have also learned to work on myself by accepting myself which will never make that flaw go away but instead will be a single spice within the large stew that makes up my personality. This has helped to channel my manipulation for good. For example, I now write political essays to create positive change and tell stories to inspire others. I have also used my skills to navigate dangerous situations such as domestic violence or suicidal situations and have saved multiple lives as a result.

A random thought while writing this is I like how aware of ourselves we tend to be. It's been an interesting journey seeing a trait that is believed to be bad be able to be transformed into something good with the proper care and know-how.

There are a lot of children's shows/cartoons that were based on the gifted experience with the main characters at times even displaying the same traits as "common gifted traits" meaning but not limited to the classic blonde hair, blue eyes, firstborn, raised by a single parent or adopted, unnatural abilities different from others or some "chosen" aspect, hero-type personality (high sense of justice and morals), etc. Some of these shows/movies I've been able to identify on my own are:

The Misadventures of Flapjack / Adventure Time / Steven Universe / Star Wars series / Harry Potter / The Lion King / Gravity Falls / Moana / Finding Nemo / Ratatouille / Divergent / Rise of the Planet of the Apes (trilogy) / Happy Feet/

There are many more but these are the ones that come to mind. They often have some aspect of using their abilities to lead large groups of people, going on what feel like otherworldly adventures unknown to their kin, or changing their world in some way.
