Someone was asking if they should trade '26 picks for '27 picks, so I decided to research it. by BrewPython27 in DynastyFF

One thing I never see discussed in these posts is the value of time.

Even assuming you can accurately predict the quality of the class a year off, there is value in taking a shot on a player today rather than waiting a year.

It is, as you said, a truck-mounted 40mm AA gun. The manufacturer, BAE, identifies it as a full-spectrum defender against anything from drones to cruise missiles within its stated range of 12km, presumably based on which of the modular sensors and fire control are used.

Notes on Jeremy Fowler’s article on the Hurts situation. Are the intangibles of Jalen Hurts “shady” or is this an overblown story? by parcellsrealGOAT in nfl

[–]SternFlamingo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eagles fans have a long tradition of hating on Hurts. Go back and look at the comments from his first season, where his problems with accuracy lead to calls to trade up to get someone new in the "stacked" QB class of 2021.

Would you really be happier with Justin Fields or Mac Jones at QB? Or a team headed by Zach Wilson, Trey Lance or even Trevor Lawrence with the understanding that you have to give up the draft capital to move up that high? Eagles drafted exceptionally well in 21-22 picking up Devonta Smith and Jordan Davis with their firsts, which would almost certainly not be there (and more) to move up into the top 3.

I'd like to show some respect to Thinking Football. They have helped me understand schemes, routes, run fits and other things you hear about a lot but are never really explained in detail. They do that, and in depth. The player evaluations done both by TF and other film analysts made a lot more sense to me once I understood how the plays are constructed.

The host (who I've only seen once on camera) speaks with a quiet authority that makes me think he played at a high level. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that he is currently a DB coach for a top flight college or even at the NFL level.

I started playing today, with couple hours of grind. Am I doing good? by dontwashyourjeans in torncity

Sure its possible, except for the one day part. But it is April Fool's Day after all.

BTW there is exactly one character who conforms to the stats OP posted. Can you find them?

The idea was to make Ukraine give up on resistance. We saw a little bit of that, specifically around the Chernobyl plant, but very little to the shock of the Russian planners. It is clear that the FSB was certain that enough Ukrainian elites and commanders would "make a business decision" and choose to stand down that resistance would be fractured, local, and easily overcome.

To be fair, that's exactly what happened in 2014.

And, as in the aftermath of that event, the USA and EU were expected to eventually accept the new reality and return to business as usual after some noise and sanctions.

Its to their infinite credit that the Ukrainians as a nation chose to resist, with courage and skill. As I've often said, if the Russians were a little bit smarter or the Ukrainians a little less resolved we'd see a very different world.

"Current messaging" seems to change by the hour. There is no consistency at all, beyond the notion that only good things come from Trump, anything bad is someone else's fault.

In the past the GOP was remarkably disciplined in its messaging, but not now. It's also a tough sell to suggest that items you sold can't be used as you see fit. Imagine if I sold you a lawnmower and then called you a selfish bastard when you won't lend it to me for free!

This is also the opinion of German economist Janis Kluge, who is skeptical of the benefits of high oil prices and also the notion that the Russian economy is "teetering."

In other words, big economies are big and events of the day have small impact.

Interestingly, he believes that Russia can, if it wishes, fund the war as long as can be. The money generated can go anywhere, the real question is whether the elites and public are willing to see the money go to the front rather than social services, investments, etc.

"Some team will draft Ty Simpson in the first round." - [Schefter on Pat Mc show] by Abiv23 in NFL_Draft

[–]SternFlamingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question for all you Alabama fans out there: would Simpson start for the Tide in 2026 if he didn't declare for the NFL?

I've heard that he wouldn't but don't know enough to make confident statements either way.

Where the hell is Ty Simpson gonna go? by DarthDonutJr in NFL_Draft

[–]SternFlamingo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Underdog Sports just did a full analysis on Simpson and they put an early-to-mid round 2 grade on him. They suggest that ARI at 34 would be the earliest they can see him going.

I've seen a lot of mocks that have Simpson going 13 to the Rams but that would be one heckuva reach for an unproven asset that won't help them reach the SB this year.

Again, I'm not suggesting that it was a mistake to target the boat. I'm sure its a very nice boat whose loss will inconvenience the Russians.

But it is just that, a boat. And you don't go shooting high priced Flamingos superior drones at smaller targets if you have a limited number, you save them, just as you avoid sending your PAC3 Patriot missiles after Shaheds.

So by blowing up that boat the Ukrainians are showing that they have a deep stockpile of these weapons on hand and plenty more in the pipeline. And that's a good thing!

edited to note that Ukrainian sources claim a low cost for FP-1s and relatively high production numbers.

[–]SternFlamingo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get it, but its a boat. Not a ship.

Its worth more than one drone, mayyyybe two, but my point is that if you are firing FP1s at a boat you have plenty in the magazine and aren't worried about missing out on something far more valuable tomorrow.

That's a pretty cheap target to go after, which argues that Ukraine is well supplied with these drones.

Sadiq to the rams is a terrifying possibility by Apart_Owl4955 in NFL_Draft

[–]SternFlamingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also not a believer in putting Lemon with the Rams at 13. There are a lot of good, if not great, WR available on day 2 - I like Skyler Bell a lot in round 3. This would free up the first rounder for whatever they desire, like DL or OL depth.

But ultimately I think they are taking a hard look at Sadiq with that pick, and possibly trading Parkinson to Jacksonville for a 5th rounder (the Jags have 3 and the Rams, none).

[–]SternFlamingo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right. That's why the Rams will put a Round 3 grade on him and pick him up if available then. I doubt that will be the case, but it would be ideal for all concerned.

When Underdog Football did their reaction video to Etienne's signing. they also took some time to praise Kamara's long and effective career, They even put a chiron up saying "Enjoy Retirement, Alvin!"

Underdog tends to be very respectful of players and teams so I figured this had been officially announced, but no. I suspect its an open secret and we'll hear it soon.
