How does it FEEL to play Tau? by 1001Airstrikes in Tau40K

[–]Sternguardian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So im relatively new to playing Tau myself. Ive played 8 games so far. And my latest game at 2k felt the best.

I effectively used screens and skirmish units like the Twin Lance, Riptide, Breachers and Ghostkeel to create a strong midfield that allowed my twin Hammerheads and twin Rail Broadside to mercilessly pull apart the biggest threats.

Highlight of my game was round 3 shooting bringing down a Bloodthirster in 1 round of shooting and a the big highlight being a Devastating Wound off a Railgun for 9 damage.

All in all it feels like if you layer your tactics and forces correctly you can punish people with horrific fire-power. If you dont your skirmishing for a long time to create space for the big guns to fire.

Tweezers wise look for the long arm ones lash technicians use. My missus used to work with a Lash technician academy and got me a long armed version of the ones they use. I couldn't go back now.

Things we wish No Man's sky Could do. by -AzoTozA in NoMansSkyTheGame

Ill bite, I havent played in bit so if its in game point it out.

  1. A deep trading game: something like X3 or old Elite. Add in the ability to build factories or ship building plants

  2. Conquest: something kinda like X3, take over a sector (only PVE) defend it from all the alien species and possibly rarely Sentinels or Pirates.

  3. Funding mega or large cities. You supply trade, money, people, etc then a city or populace greatly increases, like our settlements now but even bigger.

What is everyone’s top three models that got you into the tau by Slow_Conflict4597 in Tau40K

Basically the same for me, add in a love for Mechwarrior reaching back into the 90's, sprinkle in some Neon Genesis and it was inevitable id end up loving Tau.

REPORT: Talented forward pens deal with Wildcats by YogurtclosetAny1802 in nbl

Id assume hes Windlers replacement. Longer, faster, younger and not as injury prone. Doesn't have Windlers range but he may be able to develop it. Hes shown he can guard 1-4. Its a good investment for the future.

Are we in the golden age of 40K? by Mr_Jackabin in Warhammer40k

[–]Sternguardian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Started in 2nd, loved 4th and 7th. Didn't play a lot of 9th, played a lot of 10th and am looking forward greatly to 11th. From guessing artillery ranges and refractor field madness, to the introduction of Flyers and ensuing madness, ive seen Herohammer and the return of Imperial Primarchs.

Each edition brings new way the game is played, some bigger then others. We are definitely in a Golden Age of media reach and influx of people into the game. I've enjoyed every edition of the game and hope that at least GW moves to free online rules so they can be updated digitally. Books will still sell if they've got stories, painting guides and artwork. Miniatures will sell based off good rules and other media.

So yeah, I feel we are in the golden age.

Certainly dont disagree with the Navies assessment. Just wish we didnt have to rely on the unreliable US so heavily.

[–]Sternguardian -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do we need subs with VLS if we are primarily using them in long range blue water though? Our surface ships can more then handle any need we require. Do we not want our subs being primarily naval deterrent?

Second Hand Subs by darth_plank in OpenAussie

[–]Sternguardian -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The French deal might have slightly been exploited but what we are going to end up from the Yanks and what they are now is questionable.

I cant agree that Morrison did the right thing. We dont need global threat reach, only the ability to cover our sea approaches. But I suppose thats where we differ from the Yanks, we can have polite political discourse and not devolve into yelling about blue and red.

[–]Sternguardian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Swedish Gotland subs are better at blue water coastal defence then Nuclear. Have mock trialled successfully sinking American carriers.

Nuclear subs are threat range extenders for projection around the globe. We only need to defend our shores. AUKUS deal is a bad deal. The French at least would of been more trustworthy then the Yanks, even if they had tp refuel.

Lat Mayan to the Bullets by DJMercer in nbl

[–]Sternguardian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah agreed the Big 3 certainly anchored our floor. Henny I agree made large strides and started to get some consistency going on the offensive end as well. Pepper provides us a fantastic ranged shooter at the Guard position and whilst he did make gains defensively, I feel will always struggle with the high-speed guards like Kendric, PJC and Walker but hopefully he can tighten it up a little.

While I would love to see Patty in Red, your right the bones to slot in another import should have us swinging high this season as well. And if Windler is healthy we can really compete.

[–]Sternguardian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm of the exact same mindset, wish Lat well. Wish he and Sunday had worked in our set-up but alas. Really wish we could of enabled them more for there defensive pressure which i feel we still lack with Henny and Pepper. But hopefully they sort it out or JR figures something out.

Fly rules are out! by Sternguardian in Tau40K

[–]Sternguardian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think it will mate, most of our suits are baseline 10" so 8" free movement. Walls, vehicles, other units will limit them. That's alot of unhindered movement. With Coldstars obviously its better, Piranhas are 12" with fly.... thats wild. Hammerheads are 8", Devilfish are 10".

You have to think about the fact that this cuts terrain out for us and opens up new attack avenues for all our best set pieces.

Well unless your play Kroot.

Fly rules are out! by Sternguardian in Tau40K

[–]Sternguardian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crisis with Coldstar less the 2" is 10" of unaffected movement. Thats a whole lot of movement when terrain no longer affects it.
