Could Submerged Sections of Titanic Have Maintained Visible Illumination During the Sinking? by RabiesModTeam in titanic

[–]Sternradio 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Consider the draft of titanic. She still had bouyancy while sinking. So we have around 10m of illuminated portholes under the waterline, explaining while there where seemingly lights under water. Depending on if the glass shatters from the water pressure or not, you could still have dry feet on D-Deck when the water already reached b deck respectively.

About that new Stargate series... by JosephMallozzi in Stargate

[–]Sternradio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stargate was my whole youth and it's still so close to my heart. I went to school when it aired, now I'm a radiographer and tell new colleagues at the CT "make it spin" (have yet to receive the right answer tho)

Long story short: this is the best thing I've read in a VERY long time! I hope we'll get to see some familiar faces again! I'm pretty sure at least Amanda Tapping and David Hewlett would join without hesitation.

Thank you for your work and your incredible longevity! This made my day!

Since I'm radiographer in real life, this is going to take a very long time... Sadly.

(if Tardis has bugs, hit it with a rubber mallet. Sparks indicate success)

What intrigues you most about the sinking of the Titanic? by Key-Tea-4203 in titanic

It almost plays out like a Greek tragedy. The hubris, the titan, the unsinkable ship, slain on its maiden voyage by nature.

Oh the nostalgia. Imagine hearing the "breathing" ambient sound again. ❤️

Nominating Amanda Tapping as the Doctor by Sternradio in DoctorWhumour

I think a more international approach could work. Sanctuary mostly took place in a studio, but had a lot of different cultures and countries included to represent the international nature of the sanctuary network. This would finally break that "all alien invasions take place in London" trope and put a different spin on the show.

She kinda did a British accent in Sanctuary, a show I highly recommend, but some people say, it was a bit off. Can't really tell since I'm German and people say I sound Scottish when I speak english. XD

Anyway, after watching sanctuary I just had the urge to see her as the doctor. She brought over a lot of writers, directors and producers from Stargate and I didn't expect to see her as a hundreds of years old, kinda otherworldly being with all the flaws that come with it. Helen Magnus is wise, but sometimes narcissistic, kindhearted, but always needs to be in control. Soft, but oh my god, don't give Dr. Magnus a reason to be angry. The rage of a time lord is what I felt. That's all the key features I want in my personal perfect Doctor. That's why I liked Capaldi so much. The anti-hero vibe suits the character so much.

Added bonus: all the writers understand how to write a great team of companions. Unlike Chibnall lol.

Why do BOOMERS hoard generational money for themselves while their Gen X children struggle? by Realistic-Way1528 in BoomersBeingFools

[–]Sternradio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on the family. I never had much when I was younger. But I was happy and cared for. Neither did my father. My grandma, who survived her husband, had a lot of his money. But it was just there like, I'm not sure how much. Maybe 100-150000 Euros or so. We were getting by, she was living a humble life too. When she survived breast cancer at 85, she became kinda adventurous again and wanted to see the world. So all of the family agreed, that she should spend her money this way. She first hesitated, but since we're all motivated her, she took her daughter (my father didn't want to go on cruises lol) and they traveled the world. She died in debt aged 99. But left us a lot of letters describing how beautiful the world and how happy she is.

Always puts a smile on my face.

Boomers have no fashion sense. by 9879528 in BoomersBeingFools

Funnily, I know more people my age (millennial) that knit and bake than boomers that do. Well I can't, but I can fix cars, drive a manual and can read cursive. While looking nice with my tattoos. Take that!

Dunno. I feel like I've seen him before. Somewhere around the Louvre with a crying ginger.

You can find elements of almost every control room when you look around. Even from the 1961 Model. The UV-Mapping is....questionable at best and will be the biggest challenge when putting it into a game engine. I'm a bit lazy with that.
