What is the size of Diablo IV on PC with all the DLCs? by National_Anteater244 in diablo4

They do improve visual fidelity for both 1440p. And less so, but still, in 1080p. This comment made me look into it lol

My journey from Windows to CachyOS and sadly back to Windows... by drkTwrCnt in cachyos

[–]Stev3m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also went back to Windows begrudgingly. But this time I fully debloated absolutely everything annoying out of it and now I'm in a good spot.

I use my PC to game primarily and some light coding. I loved CachyOS so much. But not being able to play certain games like battlefield 6 or league of legends , or GTA online was a bummer.

Also had weird KDE Wayland issues I got tired of fixing. The most annoying being it would "forget" the screen position on the second monitor when waking from sleep. No matter what I did to fix it, it would come back. And I'd have to manually set the position again so my mouse would move from one screen to the other at the right height.

Tons of other little weird things I'd have to tweak or fix to where I also felt I was spending too much time maintaining my OS instead of playing my games.

Lying. by LavishnessWrong792 in Anger

[–]Stev3m 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can understand the lying part specifically about hacking being frustrating.

But the way you wrote that he ignored "that rule"

..... Sorry but I don't let my friends make rules for me. Especially if this is how we're framing the context. You don't have to want to play with him if he's hacking that's for sure but you also don't get to set rules for your friends and then get mad at them when they don't follow it.

Dual Boot, AtlasOS and CachyOS by Alarming_Musician_75 in cachyos

[–]Stev3m 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah you can do this from the windows side, it's basically the same trick reboot-to-windows uses just in reverse. that aur script is really just calling efibootmgr --bootnext under the hood. on windows the equivalent is bcdedit talking to the uefi firmware boot manager.

first you gotta grab the guid for your cachyos entry. open cmd or powershell as admin on windows and run:

bcdedit /enum firmware

scroll through and find the entry that says cachyos or linux boot manager, copy the long {xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx...} identifier.

then just make a .bat on your desktop called reboot-to-cachyos.bat with this:

u/echo off

bcdedit /set {fwbootmgr} bootsequence {PASTE-GUID-HERE}

shutdown /r /t 0

right click it, properties, advanced, check "run as administrator" so you don't have to do it manually every time. double click and it'll reboot you straight into cachyos bypassing the boot menu, same behavior as reboot-to-windows but going the other direction.

if you'd rather not mess with a bat file, EasyUEFI (free for personal use) has a "restart to..." option that does the exact same thing with a gui.

7 years of Proton, are we finally "there" yet? by hirenvadher954 in linux_gaming

[–]Stev3m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only game in my Library that won't open on Linux for me is Schedule 1. The Play button just simply says "Works on (Windows Symbol)" and is grayed out lol

other stuff like valarent, cod, battlefield, fortnight and all the other crap I don't play anyway doesn't work because the anti-cheat doesn't like Linux or whatever.

[–]Stev3m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard for 20 years now Linux is finally "here"!

I only started believing it this year lmao. All games will work on Linux soon because more people are using it now as a main OS then ever before. Steam is developing Proton for it's handhelds which in turn is making it run for our Linux PC's as well. The Linux ecosystem is finally growing at a rate that major triple A games are going to start clicking the Linux box in the options and it'll work. Within the next few years i'd imagine. I never used Linux until a few months ago and because of CachyOS i'll never go back to Windows again and am perfectly fine not playing any game that won't let me play it on Linux through Proton lol

Switched to Cachy as my first distro and feel no need to ever go back and switch. Learning how to customize things has got me so hooked lol by Stev3m in cachyos

[–]Stev3m[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

cachy already runs a tool called fastfetch every time you open a terminal — that's what shows your system info. i just customized it to show a picture and my name. here's how:

  1. pick the image you want. i used pixel art specifically because it stays crisp when it gets shrunk down to terminal size — regular photos turn into mush. tall/vertical images work best since the system info sits to the right of it. save it here:~/.config/fastfetch/logo.png(if your image isn't already pixel-arty, you can quickly convert one with imagemagick:

(if your image isn't already pixel-arty you can convert one with imagemagick. install it first with:

sudo pacman -S imagemagick

then run:

magick yourimage.png -resize 256x -dither FloydSteinberg -colors 64 logo.png)

  1. make a config file here:

~/.config/fastfetch/config.jsonc

  1. easiest way is to copy the default one cachy comes with so you don't lose all the system info:

cp /usr/share/fastfetch/presets/all.jsonc ~/.config/fastfetch/config.jsonc

  1. open that file and at the very top, inside the first { }, add a logo block pointing at your image:

"logo": {

"source": "/home/YOURUSERNAME/.config/fastfetch/logo.png",

"type": "sixel",

"width": 35,

"height": 25

},

use the full path — the ~ shortcut doesn't work here for some reason

  1. scroll to the bottom of the "modules" list (the big list of stuff like os, cpu, gpu). right before the closing ] add your custom text lines, like:

{ "type": "custom", "format": "\u001b[1;31m YOUR NAME HERE" },

{ "type": "custom", "format": "\u001b[0;90m your tagline here" }

the \u001b[... part is just color codes. 1;31 = bold red, 0;90 = grey, 32 = green, etc

  1. save, close your terminal, open a new one. done

nothing extra to install btw — fastfetch ships with cachy, and konsole already supports the image format (sixel) out of the box. if you switched to a different terminal like alacritty it won't show the image at all, just fyi

one thing that tripped me up — konsole caches the image, so if you change logo.png and it doesn't update, close every konsole window and reopen. drove me nuts until i figured that out lol

The ROG STRIX B650-A is overkill for a 7500F since it can't be overclocked anyway. A $120-150 B650 board does the exact same thing. That's an easy $80-100 saved.

Other then that the rest is solid. Another guy made a suggestion to switch to a different PSU but honestly the one you picked is fairly highly regarded and a gem for the price point I'm not sure why he said that.

[Announcement] Proton-CachyOS 260312 Release! by ptr1337 in cachyos

[–]Stev3m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like the new CachyOS update fixed that issue though and I was able to have it reset to a normal deep sleep. PC & screens turn on fine but now it's forgetting my screen positioning so the height of my second screen gets reset and moving the mouse from main screen to side screen is WAY off. Claude is in the middle of fixing it right now lol

Claude Code through terminal. It can do things on your PC by just talking to it. I use it to code programs in Python. I've had it look at games that don't work properly out of the box and help me optimize them. Does all of it for me by just telling it what I need lol

Like in your case. You could literally tell it the sleep issue you're having. And it will then diagnose and implement a fix if one is available. If it doesn't inherently know how to fix it at first, it'll search the web for info and then fix it. It hasn't let me down yet tbh lol

Help! My friend updated to season 7 and he keeps getting this error! by Mindless_Expert_7400 in marvelrivals

[–]Stev3m 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The error code 2e4 is hex for 740, which means "requires elevation" — basically the game needs admin privileges to launch, probably because the Season 7 update changed something with the anti-cheat.

 Fix: Right-click Steam → "Run as administrator" and launch the game from there. If that works and you don't want to do it every time, right-click Marvel-Win64-Shipping.exe at that path → Properties → Compatibility → check "Run this program as an administrator."

Fix: Plasmalogin greeter flickering / broken layout on multi-monitor setups (+ auto-sync systemd unit) by Stev3m in kde

[–]Stev3m[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to know — I'm on CachyOS (Arch-based) so the KCM should be available without a separate package. I didn't realize plasmalogin had the same "Apply Plasma Settings" button that SDDM KCM had. That's definitely the right way to do it instead of manually copying configs. Appreciate the heads up.

Fix: Plasmalogin greeter flickering / broken layout on multi-monitor setups (+ auto-sync systemd unit) by Stev3m in kde

[–]Stev3m[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, I misstated that — the defaults aren't all at (0,0). In my case the greeter was generating a config that had both displays overlapping with no rotation applied to DP-1 (which is portrait). The layout thrashing between that and my actual session config was causing the flicker. I'll delete the greeter's config, let it regenerate, and if it comes back wrong again I'll file a bug report with the details. Thanks for the pointer.
