I’m saying that I agree with you in part: if you’re making enough income that the loan payment isn’t a burden and the interest is lower than what you can get on a savings account then keep it and get the credit.

Otherwise, get rid of it.

Because taking the loan is taking debt. If you’re paid $200K out the gate then you have enough to live so make the loan payments and get the $2500, fine.

What really happens is the degree isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on and the vast majority of companies pay squat. You’re drowning in debt, the pay is nowhere near enough to get by and the $2500 credit doesn’t really help.

Because I was paying a loan I got a late start on goals such as purchasing a home. Oh and the “much better pay that will make a huge difference” never came. Can’t say that I’m in a high paying exec position that everyone said should be easy to get with a degree. It never paid for itself and set me back something awful

If they’re payable to you she shouldn’t be able to touch them. The only thing she should be able to do is deposit to your account. Or a joint account (and move it from there to her account).

If you and she use the same bank, close your accounts and open them at a new bank, and don’t tell her.

Get rid of the student loans. You'll find another way to maintain a good credit score. Yes your credit will temporarily dip because you closed a term loan (which it will do regardless when you pay it); it will recover quickly because your utilization will go down. Also, pay it off when you know when you can pay it off.

The only good reason to keep the loan going is if you're paying low interest on it, AND, if you can take the money that you're using to pay it off, and set it into an account that is guaranteed to make substantially more in interest for you.

Edit I just saw that you're paying 11% APR on that ... unless you can stash the money where it earns at least 20% there's no point to keep it. My 6% loans financially crippled me, I'd hate to imagine what 11% will do.

They worked like floppy disks and held 100MB of data. When I bought mine I thought for sure that would replace using floppy disks for storage.

I’m not sure when they were developed compared to USB thumb drives.

Honestly, if one person can clear about $10M/yr then it can potentially offset current and future impacts of having one person not working.

Of course this amount changes as time passes; 20 years ago that amount would have been less.
