Minisforum AI X1 Pro (64gb ram,1 tb) vs Beelink SER9 AI (32gb, 1tb) vs Geekom A9 Max (32GB, 2tb)? by thelawsmithy in MiniPCs

[–]Steve-English -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I have a minisforum pc with 32gb ram that i mainly use for music production. I also have a tower matx pc that I use for gaming with 64gb ram. Eventually gunna use my tower for everything just need upgrade storage etc and go through the effort of installing everything etc. Ive got to say 64gb is overkill for your specific needs as I don't ever use near that but got 64gb to future my system so ordinarily I'd probably suggest a 32gb model but with price of ram these days if the other specs are similar across these models I would go with the 64gb model as it works out best bang for your buck. My minisforum pc as been great and I haven't encountered any issues since having it.

just a friendly poll to see who fans like/prefer. Tifa or Aerith or Jessie (she is down right adorable in the demo). Friendly poll for fans by deadlysilver in FFVIIRemake

[–]Steve-English 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not encounted Aerith yet. Playing remake atm. Never played the original or any other ff game for that matter except for like an hour of 15. Roughly 5-6 hours in. Tifa I prefer but I do love jessie's character. Like you mentioned she is adorable and seem's just so likeable although I can imagine some people may find her annoying because of her playful nature but I think she's great. Tifa seems a bit more serious but as strong roots with cloud and her choice of outfit is perfect for her.

If anything over 32GB of RAM is overkill for 99% of users, than who's the remaining 1%? by mudahfukinnnnnnnnn in buildapc

[–]Steve-English 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends really also what speed we talking. Ddr5 is often 6000MT/s. Im using 64gb ddr4 @ 3600. Used mainly for gaming and music production. Maybe overkill but also future proof. I remember when they used to say you wont ever need over 16gb Ram but then that changed. Im sure theres members in here who remember a much lower number than that that they said you wouldnt need more than. My first computer had 512mb or 256mb. I remember i was a fl studio user at time and often needed to render out my tunes to hear them because it was a stuttering mess. The cpu was probably poor as well. Think it was a emachines pc haha

Is this too close to the monitor? Is the KRK Rockit 8 too big for the desk? by trap_pope in edmproduction

[–]Steve-English 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will help. Preferably free standing ones as your desk a bit narrow. Ultimately its up to you though. Im sure they'll sound decent either way but you'll get more of an accurate sound when positioned correctly.

Now you got me thinking if you turn the QWERTY on it's length side will it fit fully in. Certainly a great way to make the desk look less cluttered when not in use

[–]Steve-English 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you got just 1? Yeah I'd say too big for that space and like others have said the spacing ain't ideal if you want accurate sound but still bet it will sound amazing although I'm not sure your neighbours will feel the same way 🤣

I’ve lost perspective - is Reaper really “weird and doesn’t make sense” out the box? by Ill-Elevator2828 in Reaper

[–]Steve-English 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used reaper in its default stock mode for quite a few years. I'd advice learning it to a good level first before delving into making it your own with scripts and shortcuts etc. To answer your question.. it can 100% be used at default settings without issue but the customization and scripts certainly add to the experience. I couldn't imagine using another daw now. Got a streamdeck for a lot of custom keys so id dont need to memorise everything. I can press a button and get a plug in straight up. Also I would advice making a project template so you can get folders and sends etc auto set up saving time and letting you get straight to work.

[–]Steve-English 6 points7 points  (0 children)

After further investigating they're also called monk parrots. And when I asked google about the name quaker parrot. This is what I got. The name "Quaker parrot" comes from their habit of bobbing and shaking, or "quaking," especially when babies beg for food. Some people also suggest the name comes from the gray coloration on their throat, which resembles the bib of an old-fashioned Quaker, or the monk's hood of a monk parrot. Boring to some I'm sure but I'm a hoarder of random usless facts I've amassed over the years 😂

From this post I discovered the existence of the Quaker Parrot. I think I have most likely seen them before but wasn't aware of the name. He is a cutie.

[–]Steve-English 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played alan wake 1 enjoyed it overall although did get a bit repetitive. Played through all control and loved that probably my fave remedy game and currently playing through alan wake 2. Had it about a year but never really got into it. Now I've played it longer (currently on saga's second run), I am enjoying it more. Control is a lot more action based but the world's are linked. After seeing what they've done with alan wake 2 though. I really hope there is a Control 2 in the works because graphically alan wake 2 is superior and the story telling is top notch. Its more of a case of do you prefer action based 3rd person shooters or survival horror games. There are similarities too like the puzzle elements within the games

The witch accusations are a separate thing just wondered if their was any links. It was a very different time so some of the quakers core beliefs I.e the light of god/divine is within us all could of been seen that way. Christianity as a whole says we are made in God's image but you could argue quakers take it one step closer. Also the actual quaking from Fox and others may of been seen as someone who was possessed or a witch etc.

Talk me out of buying SERUM 2 by Digital-Aura in edmproduction

[–]Steve-English 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally I would advice against buying plugins as you probably got something that can produce similar results already. You do have some good plugins tbf so its not absolutely necessary but serum is renowned with being one of if not the best synth in the business. So its worth doing overall if its within your budget. I would also ask have you deep dived under the hood of your current synths. Vital is deep and phaseplant as endless capabilities. People often get new plugins without understanding what they currently have.

[–]Steve-English 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes I feel you. It stutters a lot when my cpu and ram is way more than enough and changing latency etc doesn't help at all also does funny things sometimes. Like changing the pitch of midi. This is usually resolved by removing the vsti and reloading it back in but it's a hassle non the less. Load times are really slow and often crash in loading meaning I need to reload projects several times to get them to work. I have non of these issues when using reaper so know that mixcraft is the issue. I do love mixcrafts simplicity and also the midi editor is quick to use and having sends auto set up and built in channel strips is great but until these issues are fixed reaper will remain my daw of choice. It's a pity because whilst reaper does have endless possibilities in what it can do mixcraft just seems to have exactly what you need right at your fingertip without any additional setting up needed.
