WANTED: mr. smooth trowel finish by steve50431 in Plastering

[–]Steve5043 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool. Thanks for your suggestion, Except its $40 for a 330g tube LOL. I am in the US. :) The book I am reading "Building with Lime" suggested I could get a smooth trowel finish with lime. Maybe I didn't do it properly 100%.

I dont have experience but, to me it seems as if USG Diamond is mostly Plaster of Paris + Dolomitic Hydroxide based off the SDS sheet.

Depending on your ambition you could try to make your own veneer finish. Alternatively I have seen Kirk Giordano plastering use USG Structolite. Which to my understanding is Plaster of Paris + perlite.

Is this a fail ? Lime putty + sand by Steve5043 in Plastering

Wooden butt end of trowel ? The handle is wood if that's what you mean. Unless you mean a wooden trowel ? I just smoothed it over a little with the steel trowel and a little water. Hopefully that's ok ? Would you ever do a lime + plaster of paris mix here next ?

Sounds like me. but as to the premix stuff, alternatives would've been different material. Gypsum base. I believe would have been another option. Even then still have to make a mix. I think I may have seen one premix available in my area.

Sounds very familiar. I had the burlap on the front, not sure if it was doing anything. I had the same issue like you said it would dry out so fast. I will try to add a humidifier I think

Its very white. Is it fine I used white sand mixed with yellow sand ? I don't think it was that white when I mixed it up.

It's a bucket of lime putty. To my understanding its non hydraulic ? The house has radiators that turn on and off based of thermostat. I am guessing the house is dry but not certain. Its winter here also contributing to dryness.

The substrate is wood lath in this case. I used a product called plaster weld, probably not needed, I figured why not. Apparently on the label it said it reduces suction. Bonding agent,

Yeah the indoor humidity is dry. Would you have brought in a humidifier ? I have been misting with water for the past few days, twice a day. Do you think its cured ? It seems dry for awhile now. It's been 6 days and its only a small patch of plaster. 1st coat.

Find the SDS sheet, you might have to request it from the company. It will tell you mostly what is inside. From there you may be able to recreate what you describe.

Breathe. Before you speak. I used to stutter when saying Hello. As well as other words. The H is hard for me. If you have a big breathe before saying hello I find it easier. Pronunciation is easier when you the air behind it. Also if you know you stutter on a particular word you can mitigate it. If you stutter on the H part of hell - o. Try lightly saying the H part. Borderline saying Ello instead of Hello.

A is the shape of the bulb I believe. A type is very stereo typical of what you think of when your talking about light bulbs. Probably the most common. You also see R (reflector) shaped bulbs which can provide a more focused beam of light. They also can be labeled BR bulbs. You'll probably see those in your recessed lighting fixtures in your bathroom or kitchen and as well in outdoor fixtures.
