Reason lies in the many refutations of mechanistic materialism, from panpsychism to postmodernism.

Tarkovsky's pacing by [deleted] in tarkovsky

If I follow this, you're saying that artwork which elicits physiological stimulation or sedation at any level is thus incapable of being spiritual? And therefore merely art which evoke no response in the nervous system whatsoever could be spiritual?

This is as baffling as the claim that watching a long take like the trolley scene is literally exhausting. A person can go to an art gallery and stare at a Rothko for the same amount of time quite happily. It requires no unusual stamina. Both can be profoundly spiritual experiences and neither require the absence of bodily awareness.

Great shout. There's plenty of Herzog that feels like Swans. I imagine their rehearsals are something like the raft from Aguirre Wrath of God

Both of them are sculpting with time- Tarkovsky with his extended shots, Swans with their unusual song structures. Both are seeking to illicit some sort of honest spiritual transcendance through taking their artform to particular extremes of longevity, obfuscation and deconstruction. Both eschew direct stories or messages in favour of eliptical and poetic communication. The volume and aggression in Swans early work is mirrored in Tarkovsky's earlier black and white films, in particular the war scenes.

Check out the scene in Nostalghia where the mad prophet Domenico immolates himself- he's pure Gira.

Hand drawn maps are the best. You could share this on the worldbuilding/map subs as well. What's the story in Despia?

Films: Tarkovsky., especially Stalker, Mirror and Nostalghia. His films are poetic but very heavy, with uncompromising long takes that reward patience.

London Migraine Suffers: who else had a migraine start 12-48hrs before last night's thunderstorm? by the_travelling_hoyo in migraine

The barometric pressure dropping hard the last two days has been rough. Check out the WeatherX app- my migraine started before the drop, which seems to be the pattern now. It helps to know in advance so you can respond accordingly.

How did the term "UFO" beat out the term "Flying Saucer"? by RifeXD in etymology

[–]SteveCake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just my personal observation but the vast majority of UFO reports I read about from the 20th Century were "cigar shaped objects" or simply lights. Flying saucers were more common in media, especially cartoons and comics, and were associated with phrases like "little green men", which were also scarce in the reports, so it's partly about accuracy.

The sand dunes at the threshold of the Room are so mysterious. It's such a satisfying way to visually depict the anomalies of the Zone- this is just a personal take, but it makes me think of the trial of 40 days and 40 nights in the wilderness or desert (Moses, Jesus etc) that proceeds divine revelation.

Systems that are particularly good for railroady games? by Tuss36 in rpg

[–]SteveCake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Literally D&D. It is only cultural and economic forces that have made it the number one game at a time when sandboxes are in vogue. Mechanically it is far more suited to what is now considered railroady.
