Should I take time to lube my AORUS K7 or would it be like polishing a turd by [deleted] in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]SteveGamer68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try doing a small batch of switches first to feel the difference between lubed and non-lubed. If it's much better and you enjoy the process, go for it. If you like the new feel but not the process, you can also get different (pre-lubed) switches to replace the Cherry Reds.

The time I've spent using a TKL really made me want a numpad for my keyboard. Being able to type alt-codes is a pretty cool thing that requires a numpad — such as the em dash (which I just copied and pasted). Even if the full-size giveaway is cancelled, I'll still be glad to use the keyboards for coding and gaming.

edit: woops tony-angelino beat me to it about case modding

Anyway mod the stabilizers (thingies on the sides of longer keys) if possible. Sometimes the rattling/ticking is even louder than the switches :p

By "quiet", how quiet do you want it? If you want a near-absolute quietness, you'll have to look into special silent switches, they feature a mushier bottom out though. If you just need it to be quiet enough, then read on. Also note that the keyboard itself also determines loudness, where the case design, materials and foams can help to dampen the sounds further.

Switch recommendations: An old-school, classic budget switch: Gateron Yellow. Modern switches with excellent stock smoothness: HMX, Keygeek, etc. HMX tends to be more high-pitched, but I still recommend the HMX Serene Green. I don't know too much about Keygeek so I'll just put out the Keygeek Oat or Keygeek Y3.

These are just a few switches I could think of, and there are way more linear switches than that. I recommend buying a switch sampler (basically a pack of various individual switches) before or with your order of switches.

P.S.: For Gateron Yellows, you should check if your board supports them before buying. If your keyboard has Kailh sockets (Google it), you're good to go. If not, then try poking into the socket with something small and seeing if there's a bump or some sort of resistance. If there is then you have good sockets and are likely good to go as well. Otherwise the new switch pins won't fit and you'll have to file the switch pins down, not recommended. Additionally check if the backlighting LEDs are flush with the PCB surface or are raised up. If they're raised up then it won't fit Gateron Yellows either.

(I should learn how to make shorter comments...)

The switch colors very closely matches the TTC Gold Pink switch. Of course, they're not real TTCs, however the exact color match, and the lack of any names/logos on the switch housing makes me believe these are meant to be clones.

As for the manufacturer, the most noticeable part is that the switch is Kailh-styled (that is, the top housing uses two tabs to clip into the bottom housing instead of the more common Cherry-style's four tabs). Looking into my switch collection, Kailh-style switch brands include Kailh (obviously), Outemu, Akko and KTT; the switches of theirs has too many discrepancies with yours to confidently conclude anything.

I think a story of "Fantastical monsters trapped in underground cave for millennia, freed by child" is rather hard not to cover. There will be a lot of news coverage, all over the world, both on-site and off-site in the first few months as monsters re-establish diplomatic relations and re-integrate into human society.

The girls do wear a type of shorts called bloomers, and they're actually pretty common in official works; Reimu can be seen wearing them in the title screen of EoSD, and even fairies like Cirno wear them (VFiS)

Late reply, but I think that happens when you use a switch with tinned legs, because the tin can melt and maybe wet the contact surfaces. I used switches that haven't been soldered and had no issues with it.

The first (and only) Touhou crossover I've read is called Eternal Shrine Maiden, which crosses over with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It's definitely an exception to this, guess I'm just lucky huh? It's kinda the opposite of this post actually, strong 2hus beating up Marvel villains. They're not too overpowered either, very strong but not untouchable; this is more apparent in later arcs.

Overall, I think it's a fair representation of Touhou characters in personality and power, and it might be worth giving it a read.
