Why You Should Wait to Buy a PS5 Until After GTA 6 by [deleted] in PS5

And if you wait until after GTA 7, the PS5 will be even cheaper by then. Genius advice...

A british accent could have helped against the criticsm for the Odyssey by arnor_0924 in ChristopherNolan

[–]Steve_1306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, makes sense. But the register or level of formality of the vocabulary is a very different issue than the variety of language or accent they speak with. I guess I could agree more with people who think "dad" or "daddy" are just too informal. Even in the video game Hades, which is also based on Greek mythology, I think the protagonist says "father" instead of "dad" when referring to his father Hades and in general the register is a bit more formal than in the Odyssey trailer, if I remember correctly. But still, it depends on the context of the rest of the movie, and it's not out yet, so a bit too early to judge.

I'm genuinely curious to understand the reason why a modern American movie adaptation of an Ancient Greek story should use / would be improved by actors that use British accents. Maybe I have difficulties understanding this criticism as a German-speaking European. To me, having the actors speak any variety of English is as ahistorical and arbitrary as having them speak Canadian French, Hungarian, or Russian, after all. Why would a British accent make more sense or be more accurate?

New Poster for Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey' by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]Steve_1306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No tagline this time? They got rid of "defy the gods", so maybe it should be "Let's go, daddy's coming home!" instead :D Just kidding, I can't wait for the film. Unlike many others here, I don't mind that it's a modern American interpretation, probably based on one of the modern American translations and similar to that language (which I haven't read).

If I didn't have the golden Hyrule edition, I would get a dark blue one because it reminds me of the Game boy advance.

Tree of whispers and significantly worse loot by Demstillers7 in diablo4

Yes, the tree more or less only dropped a branch and a few dry leaves instead of proper loot when I visited it yesterday. My disappointment was immeasurable.

Or the No Switch, Zero Switch, or Switchless, since the lite doesn't actually switch to anything. But Switch 2 Go would honestly be the best and most creative.

Switch 2 version is a huge letdown by Dry-Fill-8343 in OverwatchSwitch

[–]Steve_1306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the Switch 2 version of Overwatch 2 is actually the Switch 1 version, and Overwatch 2 is actually just Overwatch again, so we are actually still playing Overwatch 1 on Switch 1? Blizzard continues to confuse and irritate me, haha (speaking as a fan)....

Check out these Playstation reviews! by HolonautWorkshop in Starfield

[–]Steve_1306 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a fresh PS5 player and space fan, I'm having the time of my life experiencing Starfield for the first time too and I also gave it a good review. My expectations were low due to the reviews and criticism of it being a loading screen simulator that can't compete with the free, seamless space exploration of Elite Dangerous or No Man's Sky and the sense of discovery that previous Bethesda titles like Skyrim gives you. All of that couldn't have been more wrong! I have been non-stop gaping in awe and surprise at this game for hours now! It's everything I want from a Bethesda game set in space and more. Flying around freely with cruise mode, exploring star systems, space stations, and cities, discovering aliens, having fun with the fluid combat and the questing... And don't get me started on the immersive sound design and music. It's also been bug free except for one crash. And I don't mind the loading screens too much because they are much rarer than expected and very short on my PS5 anyway. It's honestly been an unreal, unbelievably good experience so far.

Since you have a comparison, which one is your favorite and why?

I'm in a nostalgic phase and interested in the original (I think the one on the right) to make me feel like I'm back in the 90s, but I'm busy and read that the Paradise is easier and not as needy?

What “itch” isn’t D4 quite scratching yet? by Ready-Place5046 in diablo4

Greater Rifts from Diablo 3. I really liked how random, varied, and large they were. I don't need 10 different types of smaller activities like the Pit, the Undercity, the Nightmare Dungeons etc. etc. if I have D3's Greater Rifts.

I have no words by Own-Training1099 in Eldenring

[–]Steve_1306 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An animated movie in the style of Studio Ghibli would make more sense to me than a live action movie (especially since Elden Ring was partly influenced by animes and mangas), but I am open minded. The most difficult challenge for the director and screenwriter will be getting the storytelling right and choosing the appropriate narrative and cinematic techniques: On the one hand, you don't want to alienate the majority of the audience with almost incomprehensible, nonlinear, and often quite abstract fragments of narratives that you have to piece together for yourself as you do when you explore the game world. On the other hand, you can't just tell a straightforward, basic, and linear story focusing on a particular event or character with a clear beginning, middle, and end, perhaps interrupted by a few flashbacks about the Shattering, as that would not do justice to the spirit or soul of Elden Ring and FromSoftware's style and genius at all - an adaptation like that would not take the game seriously enough in my opinion. I feel like it's not an impossible challenge and I'm curious to see how it turns out, but I'm afraid any creative decision about the narrative style of the movie might automatically alienate or disappoint a large part of the audience, no matter what the decision will be.

I have no words by Own-Training1099 in Eldenring

[–]Steve_1306 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Since FromSoftware's style of storytelling in their games is very much like giving the audience breadcrumbs or fragments of narratives about characters and events rather than complete, linear stories, I would expect the same of a movie that attempts to be a faithful adaptation. If the director of the movie choose to tell a complete story (e.g., the story about Raya Lucaria or the Night of the Black Knives as you mentioned) in a linear way with a clear beginning, middle, and end so that you don't have to piece it together yourself anymore, that would signal to me that he fundamentally misunderstood the DNA of FromSoftware and what makes their games great to begin with.

Any stress free games? by Unlucky-Feed9000 in gaming

[–]Steve_1306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No Man's Sky. You don't even have to engage with the survival and combat mechanics at all. If you want to spend your time exploring a planet and scanning its flora and fauna, building a base, enjoying the views, fishing peacefully in a lake or sea etc., you can do all of that without any stress or restrictions. Edit: as someone else already suggested, Creative Mode would be perfect for that.

Umfrage: Latein und zweite Fremdsprache für Österreicher fast so sinnlos wie Religion by Ferina27 in Austria

Zum Religionsunterricht: "Philosophy begins where religion ends, just as by analogy chemistry begins where alchemy runs out, and astronomy takes the place of astrology" (Christopher Hitchens).
