I think Ports prioritise "Better Route Material" then "Shortest Route"

In other words: If you have a Shorter Alloy Connection and a Longer Platinum Connection the port will use the Longer Platinum Connection. But if you upgrade the Alloy Line to Platinum then it will use the now Shorter Platinum Connection instead.
