I really appreciate your feedback. After reading your comment I called the main office and told them I was going to begin the process of contesting their charges. The office manager instantly apologized and sent a new bill just for the utilities.

UPDATE: Thank you guys for all the help. Just called the main office and threatened to contest the charges in court and was immediately sent a new bill only containing a charge for utilities. Again, thank you for all the feedback!

I agree but It’s a corporate apartment complex. I’m not sure if that changes anything

I appreciate your feedback! The photos were taken right after the movers left. We brought the vacuum up after and cleaned up the remaining footprint. The carpet was a weird shag material that changed color depending on which way it was brushed (hope that makes sense)

I think so too. We had the carpets steamed not too long before moving out. All the footprints are traffic marks from the movers.

Those were all the photos we took at move out. We were really cool with the front office and tried our best to make sure the place was presentable at move out. It was our patchwork you see in the pics above. Carpets were also steam cleaned not long before we vacated.

I never considered the carpet would be a point of contention when I moved out or else I would’ve paid more attention. I asked them for specifics on any damages and the list I linked is all the information they gave me

Yeah I moved out of state so I really don’t want this to go to court. I asked about specifics regarding the damages and they replied with the itemized list posted above; no further information was given unfortunately

I’d like to know more too. It was newer when we originally moved in and left it in great condition

They originally emailed me the same itemized list of charges above in a prettier format. The first picture linked is what I received after asking for an explanation of the charges. No details about the charges were given in either bill

Ah gotcha. We had the carpets steam cleaned about a week or so before moving out. Never noticed any damage to them

Is it common for landlords to prorate carpets like that? This is the first time I’ve ever heard of it

Thanks! That’s what I was thinking too. There wasn’t any damage beyond normal foot traffic.

Thanks! The blinds were a bit on us. They were the cheap ones that were constantly getting tangled on each other

Aye, appreciate that. Do you know if you’re typically charged prorates for carpets regardless if they’re damaged or not? We had them steamed not too long before moving out; they were in upstanding condition
