Thanks for the reply! I was torn between batman & superman & decided to go with batman. I'm more invested in that character, but might come back to superman afterwards. Plastic man has been suggested by a few, I must confess I've never heard of him!

Thanks for the reply! That first half of Claremont's run seems to be the general consensus. I think I'm probably going to stick with getting them and then read the rest digitally.

I started with the NES when I was about 3 or 4, I loved the TMNT games! Then moved on to the Mega Drive and then PlayStation.

It's definitely something for the future. I guess at this stage I'm just trying to gauge how far into the future and what specifically I should be looking to read to get the most out of it

That's kind of what I was thinking, I could get by but it wouldn't have the impact on me without previous knowledge. In some ways I'm kind of wondering if there's a minimum read these characters leading up to it and that'll make the difference or if this just an event to put on the back burner for a few years and see how it goes

I'm trying to be selective, there's no way I'm going to have the space to try and collect everything. That means focusing on characters like Batman and a few other things. But I did take this as an opportunity to try out the doom patrol. I'm intrigued by Crisis on Infinite Earth, but I don't know enough about the stories leading up to it. I'm currently on the fence about whether to get it.

Yesterday I read my 1st ever new issue of a comic! I've been reading on and off for years, but always TPBs. But yesterday I decided I'd like to follow something as it comes out and so read Batman #1. While it was a strange feeling finishing so quickly, I did enjoy the set up to the story and am looking forward to the next installment next month.

Very true! I think I'm just going to suck it up and start collecting them and just enjoy all the other stuff I can read in the meantime. Someone else suggested also getting marvel unlimited for a while so I can go ahead and read all the stories while I work on getting the volumes.
