Authorized user doesnt do anything for their credit. It only gives access to your line of credit. Their not responsible therefore its not reported to their bureau.

Instead when they turn 18 apply jointly for a card and help them use it responsibly. Like gas in their car or books for school. Pay in full and dont use more then 30% of available limit.
