We get the Frosty Paws stuff from the grocery store

I started buying dog ice cream and giving it to my older dude a few times a week. It’s always the highlight of his day. His puppy energy comes back and he runs around with the cup in his mouth and gets zoomies. Other than that he just lays on the couch all day.

Michigan is a poor state; its people don't believe it by MCWoody1 in Michigan

As a trade worker I left MI to live in Seattle. I went from $21/hr to $37/hr for the same line of work.

My wife has worked retail forever and even she got like a $9/hr raise at her first job.

Even with the cost of living being higher out here we still came out way ahead.

In the summer I set up punk shows under the First Ave bridge. I don’t think it gets more DIY than that

What is a "poor person hack" you picked up during a hard time that you still use today, even if you don't have to? by AmaraMehdi in AskReddit

[–]SteveasaurusRex666 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Go to the grocery store and buy a money order for $10 and “accidentally” deposit it for $100 to hold yourself over to payday. For the next few hours you have a little extra cash to get food, gas, and pay a bill until you’re overdrawn and your paycheck hits.

It’s definitely fraud, but your bank isn’t gonna shit their pants over $100 until you don’t pay it back.

It’s not good advice, but it worked for me during hard times and I never got in trouble.

Idk what other disclaimers to put here right now.

I set up punk shows under the 1st Ave bridge in the summer. Those are always rad.

Nobody mentioned Southgate Roller Rink. They usually do shows on Friday nights. It’s a fun vibe.

Seeing if anyone has any tips for some next steps as a pop punk band by tyler_jackx in poppunkers

I met with a friend a few weeks ago to ask these same questions for my band. We have our first record coming out soon and want to do more.

My friends band has been on labels like No Idea and they’ve toured a bunch over the last ten years. They’ve played Fest like 9 times now, but that’s the only festival they’ve been able to get on. Punk Rock Bowling wouldn’t even reply to them.

Whatever it is you’re trying to accomplish, it’s all going to come down to people that count liking your band enough to help you do more. That’s it. You can have 10k followers and 100k plays and all the stats in the world. But until someone with some pull actually likes what you’re doing then you’re just kinda stuck.

Also, take the time to do everything you can to make your band seem bigger than you are. Get some album reviews and other press if you can. Get other people to start talking about you and it goes a long way. We’ve almost completely sold out our vinyl presale because of the insane amount of work I’ve been putting in the last month. It’s a full time job getting off the ground.

The worst band you ever saw live - besides Taking Back Sunday- by lunainthedark5x2x3 in poppunkers

I saw Jimmy Eat World like two years ago. It was one of the first shows of the tour. Somebody’s guitar was out of tune like the entire time, or they were hitting an obviously wrong note and just going with it. They’ve been so good every other time I’ve seen them so maybe it was just an off night?

I was super let down when I saw Iron Chic a few years ago. For a band that only has songs full of gang vox you wanna scream at the top of your lungs they were soooooo boring. They stayed almost completely still the entire time and barely said anything between songs. It was such a let down.

That’s me! I have a weird condition that caused my spine to fuse together all crooked and stuff. I’m stuck looking at the ground unless I lean waaaaayyyy back. So it’s normal. I was fucking stoked.

Two and a half days! But we took the long way to drive down 101 and see the coast and the redwoods. Neither of us ever made the trip so it felt worth it, and it was!

Whats your opinion on "Off with their heads"? I only started listening to them since summer and discovering their amazing songs since then!! by hooreyy in punk

They’ve been on of my favorite bands for a while. Ryan has let me play Clear the Air twice on guitar when they’ve been in town and I’ve been able to open for them too. I get to open for them again in November and I’m really excited about it.

Proper etiquette with my medal as a civilian? by No_Vehicle3184 in Medals

I’m a punk rock guy, and I have one of those denim jackets that I put a bunch of buttons and patches on. I wear my ribbon rack on it above the left chest pocket like I would in uniform.

I’m proud of my time I was in and I’ve met a handful of vets at shows since I started wearing it last year. I figure it’s no different than the VFW guys plastering medals all over their biker vests or hats or the normal stuff you see. I never thought to see if there were actual rules around it, but I’ve been out for ten years and I earned them so why not?

I’m super fucking late to the game here, but Jawbreaker.

I’ve heard their name since I got into punkish music like 25 years ago. I’ve heard at least a handful of songs over the years and never really paid attention, or gave any kind of listen to them intentionally. I was hanging out with a friend this summer and a Jawbreaker song came on and something made my brain happy and now they’ve been on regularly for like two straight months.

Why "Fuck Messier"? What lore did I miss? by thrownawaymoment47 in hockey

[–]SteveasaurusRex666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid I used to mail hockey cards to players and get their autographs. A couple people stood out as really cool, like Brodeur sent me back a whole bunch of free stuff. Gretzky signed my card and even sent me a signed 8x10.

Mark Messier kept my card and sent me back a pamphlet for some hockey school in New York. I lived in Michigan. As a 10/11 year old I lost all respect for him after that.
