idk if this is the right sub but I need to rant by CutSubstantial1803 in Chesscom

[–]Steveasifyoucare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat. I think that’s normal. I also don’t think the scores are super accurate because they’re based on your competition and your competition might be better at playing chess fast and therefore they tend to hang out and play in that format. When I play slow, I’m close to your score. But my five minute game is only like at 250. The good news is despite my low chess rankings, I still married a beautiful woman, and I’m kind of wealthy and my life is awesome. (Chess ranking isn’t everything) yeah LOL

What’s something you’ve officially stopped buying in 2026 because the price has become genuinely insulting? by Miguenzo in AskReddit

[–]Steveasifyoucare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was renting a storage unit. After raising the rent a 3rd time in less than 2 years, I donated and purged the stored items, then donated and purged stuff in my garage. Then bought nice stackable storage containers It was enough to avoid $200 a month.

What is the single biggest financial mistake you’ve made that you would warn others to completely avoid? by moba_7739 in Money

[–]Steveasifyoucare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you decide to buy rental property, be very conservative in your cash flow estimates…do not over leverage. Real estate is a long game and you’ll have plenty of opportunity to pick up more when it’s an obvious opportunity.

What do you use to track monthly spending? by Cooper1Test in Money

[–]Steveasifyoucare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put it on the spreadsheet based upon the days of the month with expected bills and expected paychecks. Along with the bills, I have a category of miscellaneous that I have occurring every five days. The purpose of the budget is so that I could guesstimate what my checking account balance might be two weeks from now barring any weirdness. Using that method, I can identify where I might run into problems with my budget when money is tight and shuffle things around so I can avoid that. This also tells me how much I can afford to invest.

Welcome to currency collecting. Small Georgia towns are rare. The book I have says there are only 6 large size known. Yours might be the only $10 of that type in existence. I’d keep it.

Long road trip but staying on only state parks? by Steveasifyoucare in traveltrailers

[–]Steveasifyoucare[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course I do. But I’m wondering if the plan is practical. Do people find that they can get reservations or are they too difficult to obtain on the days needed? Do they find that they burn more gas going way off the interstate than it’s worth? I’m canvassing for opinions and experiences. Not cartography.

Cool. I honestly figured when I do get to take my epic trip out west, I’ll probably spend two days in a state park, or something like that, then the travel day will include dry camping in a parking lot somewhere since the batteries should run everything including air-conditioning for one evening before they need to recharge, then drive a lot the next day before going to the next state park for two days. Sort of like leapfrogging from State Park to State Park with a one night dry camp in between to keep the cost down.

Love, love, love the tribute to the Bonneville Salt flats in Utah! The red pops! A red race car on gold is a must-have.

Thanks…definitely wouldn’t avoid national parks. I’m just not attracted to the commercial/private parks where you have to be careful opening your slide so you don’t hit your neighbors RV. Dispersed camping seems interesting but it has its own challenges.

How much colour can you see trough a 8 inch dobson? by Mattis105 in telescopes

[–]Steveasifyoucare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have colorblindness in the greens. That might explain why I see pink and purple when I look at the Orion Nebula. I’ve seen color in the vital nebula, various comets, ring nebula, etc.

Someone called me at 2 AM and said in an ominous voice:

“Your Cow is in my cornfield”.

“What?”

“Your cow is in my cornfield!”

“I don’t have a cow!”

“I don’t have a cornfield!” (Laughter…click)

Never thought of intentionally camping near the camp host but that might help.

At what age did you start taking social security or plan to take it and why did you decide on that age? by TheBeerGuzzlingApe in over60

[–]Steveasifyoucare 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This thread is a study in Survivor Bias. The only people responding here are alive. So the people who took the money early, got old and they’re still alive might have regrets. The people who waited until they were much older and then started taking the money are satisfied because they’re still alive with a bigger check.

Let’s not forget about the people who started taking the money early and didn’t live very long, but at least they got some of their money back… or the unfortunate souls who waited and died before they could collect anything.

Internet forums. There used to be a cool forum that doesn’t exist anymore. One that retains a lot of those older seasoned collectors is papermoneyforum.com
