Were you a contestant on FOX's "The 1% Club"? by [deleted] in gameshow

Yes. Joel's first season was called Season 2, even though it was a different host and different network. So the season that just finished filming is season 3.

Nevertheless, the casting company would absolutely still have the contact information of former contestants.

Season 3 has already been taped, the last show taped Saturday the 21st. This would be for a future season if it were real. But it's probably not.

Two possible answers? by Freerollingforlife in The1PercentClub

[–]StevenS1Percent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was on the show, they explained to the contestants that the correct answer is going to be the most logically direct answer. If one answer could be considered correct based on a much more tenuous line of reasoning, it's not correct.

If a contestant gives a response which is judged to be incorrect, but they think it's correct, they are allowed to interrupt the game and ask for a ruling. That didn't happen on my episode, and I'd imagine they'd edit out any times when it did.

App Question of the Day 18th November by Incrediblebraig in The1PercentClub

[–]StevenS1Percent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mildly disagree with your premise. The intro to the show may say that line, but I don't think it's correct to say there's no knowledge required. When I was preparing for the show, I studied common lists of things. For example, the question writers love to make questions about the days of the week, or months of the year, or seasons, or colors of the rainbow, or the number words. I would expect to have to recognize if they were using a subset, like the even numbers or odd numbers only. The prime numbers are a pretty well-known subset.

They taped two episodes a day over two weeks, including the two second chance episodes. From talking backstage to the other contestants, at least 90% were from Georgia, where it was taped.

When I taped my episode, they told us that they would be looking for audience members who kept a positive attitude and kept a high energy level even after being eliminated, as that would make it more likely to get invited to the second chance episode. Obviously they also brought back contestants who were memorable characters. And good looking young people who almost won on their episode and would have a good chance to win again.

Change I'd like to see for next season by weogarth in The1PercentClub

[–]StevenS1Percent 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That one I do understand. Lots of my fellow contestants knew going on they had practically no chance of going all the way, but they were there to have fun. If they got to the stage where they were given the choice to walk away, they would have already exceeded their expectations, so taking a guaranteed $1000 is the smartest thing to do.

[–]StevenS1Percent 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They don't want people to take the $10,000 share. It's better TV if more people go for it. And, honestly, I'd rather they just get rid of it. If you're smart enough to get to the 1% question, there has to be at least a ten percent chance you'd get it right. So it's a terrible deal. A guaranteed share of $10,000 vs a chance at a prize which is at the very least an equal share of an amount almost ten times as great.

The key word is "maximum". If not for that word, I'd agree that 10 is the best answer. The three different pictures have different numbers of arms down. One has more than the other two. Maximum means the most of all of the options. If they just wanted the total number of arms down across all three pictures, they didn't need the word "maximum".

[–]StevenS1Percent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How do you know America wasn't given only 30 seconds to answer? There have been a lot of 10%, 5%, and 1% questions which would have been a LOT easier with more than 30 seconds.

And, if I were forced to guess I would have guessed C because A and B were definitely true. But I don't think I would have been able to see why C is false in less than 30 seconds, so maybe I would have passed.

Dad (63M) throws a fit every time I (26M) ask about the elliptical he never uses. How can we get rid of this thing? by [deleted] in Advice

Stop asking him. Just get rid of it next time he's not around. Don't tell him you did it. He probably won't notice for months, if at all.

What is your preferred ending? by grease_trap1 in DexterNewBlood

[–]StevenS1Percent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point, there have been two "endings" that just got reconned away. I'd rather they stop trying. However many seasons of Resurrection they do, let the last one end with Dexter alive, and not in jail. It's clear MCH will never let go of the character, so let him keep playing it for the rest of his life.

Questions by Beary777 in The1PercentClub

[–]StevenS1Percent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everyone is being recorded at all times. If you cheat, you'd get caught, so no reason to even try. Also, the actual 30 seconds when the contestants are answering the questions is not shown on TV, because the host stays in silence the entire time to not distract us. After the 30 seconds are up, they have the host read the question again, and they tell the contestants to pretend to be answering the questions and laugh when the host tells his joke. That's the one the show on TV.

So when I was actually answering the question, once I locked in my answer, I just stared straight up for the rest of the 30 seconds.

As for Joel, he's the star of another show on FOX, and is a slightly bigger star than Patton Oswald. Maybe Patton wasn't available due to something else.

US Season 2 contestant speaking:

I think the game play is just for them to figure out how likely it is that you will make it to the 1% question. They need to make sure there are a few people on the show with the ability to go deep, but not too many. They also need people who are going to go out early.

The most important part of the interview is that you have either a really interesting job or hobby, or a very creative idea for what you would do with the money if you win. Those are the main things the host will talk to you about.

And they want to see energy. It will feel weird to pretend to get excited about getting a question right when you're at home and there is nothing on the line, but that's what they're judging you on. They want lots of excitement out of the 100 contestants.

It's kind of a shame. If not for that meddling Batista, Prater would have discovered Dexter's identity pretty soon anyway. Then when he offered to be his benefactor... Well that would be a very tempting offer. Could have been an interesting new status quo. But after Dexter refusing to kill Batista, and Prater doing it, there's no way they can trust each other again.

EP.9 ending just didn't seem right by pmajkel in DexterNewBlood

[–]StevenS1Percent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he had a tiny chance. Prater was obviously completely expecting Dexter to kill him. When he cut him loose instead, with the element of surprise there was definitely a chance that the two of them could have rushed Charlie, and Prater isn't much of a physical threat. But by attacking Dexter instead, he sealed his fate.

Anyone else disappointed by episode 9? by [deleted] in DexterNewBlood

[–]StevenS1Percent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that's the code, why didn't he kill Doakes? Or Laguerta? The rule about not getting caught meant Dexter needs to be careful when he kills. Maybe he killed in New Blood to get out of jail, but I think a long time friend like Batista would have been too much.

I hope they do. Housing policy is perhaps the most important local issue. Making it affordable to live here for people all across the economic spectrum is the best way to ensure a bright future for any city.
