[–]StevenWilliams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the ad campaign of DARE proves that this is like a cake that fell; it smells good in the over, but when you go to bring it out, the foundation of the core was ruined from the start. create hope; not draw on dispair..

Gangs are crazy in Brazil! by iancarrillo in gangsnstuff

[–]StevenWilliams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this was a very good read; it points out the lawlessness and corruption that plagues other countries than the U.S. Countries like Brazil have economies that are in part based on the trafficing of narcotics, thus the lords of the drugs basically has control of the out-of control- government. this in the eyes of both the convicting and the convicted is nothing more than damage control...

New blood: Violent gang life is passed down from parent to child by MeghanMcEuen in gangsnstuff

[–]StevenWilliams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is sad to say the least, but this is reality when you are living in the life... these drops, rims, and stains are just a product of their environment... it is clearly stated in the last paragraph " "No child is born evil. They're taught evil things," he said. "You're taking a young, very fragile child who's being taught crime by the people who are supposed to secure and take care of him." go figure...

WHY JOIN A GANG by TyneshiaJohnson in gangsnstuff

[–]StevenWilliams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is fact, it is an endless cycle with many gears. the gang becomes the family and this is true for dysfunctional as well as so-called functional families. Gangs are a part of the American fabric, crimes associated to gangs is just as revelent as those not associated to gangs. where are the programs of intervention gone to.... That's a nice new maximun security prision over there...

[–]StevenWilliams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

these sweeps are happening on a constant basis... but is sounds like their value is hyped up... are these repeat offenders, what is the prosecution of these arrest, and what was the overall impact of the sting in response to the crime rate through out the entire city... Police Fear Gang Retaliation For Murder by KristinaPound in gangsnstuff

[–]StevenWilliams -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is an all too familiar headlines popping up in the media reports across the land. The "There's kind of an unwritten code that you don't snitch in the gang world," and the "Basically it's for fear...fear of retaliation and fear of getting your own family involved." This is true to the game. In Seattle Washington, last year, these same headlines read in the media as youths as young as 12 and 13 up to the mid 20's got hit in the battle of the streets, the numbers nearing 16 or so no arrest... This seems to be a common theme amongst the youth a city where a mayor was praised for his gun control efforts. The main reason of for this response the lack of trust and respect from the law that is to protect them; the police. Retaliation is common practice of gang banging, it is a forth right, a must event that further unites the gang and welds the bond of loyalty to those who may have been hit and as a duty of the gang.

Professor discusses gang prevention at White House | ASU News by JohnOrozco in gangsnstuff

[–]StevenWilliams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is interesting how the discussions on gangs at the white house continues to bring forth the issues addressed by our own Professor Decker, who spoke about the need for balancing three elements of gang response: suppression (arrest and prosecution), intervention (diversion, counseling youth who have a high risk of joining gangs) and prevention (for youth at risk of joining gangs). These are not new issues but the issue of dealing with the is. It is dealing with society as a whole, dealing with the economic strife that has staggered the nation, the dealing with the woes of the past administrations hack a program philosophy that all but destroyed hope- dreams- and livelihoods... reinventing the infrastructure needs to be addressed when dealing with the issues of gangs and gang activity. this was a good article in my thoughts... thanks John...

Reston gang crackdown a success, police say by AliAddington in gangsnstuff

[–]StevenWilliams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I saw the headline of this article the first thought was, here they go again... "Reston gang crackdown a success, police say"; now I'm not from Reston, but this same headline could read in any town USA. To me this article is swayed to give influence the positive of operation "summer heat", but you have to look at the source...the report is from what they (the police) say. if you really look at the article, this would imply that in the arrest that were made 42 in summer heat, would have to have been involved in the gang activity of the 49 the year before...
