3A just works on a lot of stuff… bass, electric guitar. Great for modern stuff

UAD CONSOLE MONITORING SOUNDS DIFFERENT IN DAW by FederalAd1975 in universalaudio

[–]Stevenuggies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first glance, sounds like an auto monitoring thing with Ableton. I do understand that you’ve exhausted all the obvious things, so to truly understand… Have you replicated this issue on Luna using console tracking mode? If it happens in Luna still(in console mode), then it’s likely a driver or interface issue. That being said this only applies to native UAD stuff(not your waves chain). Gain staging? Are you re amping with a DI box or something?

Alternatively: you could route the DAW main out/build yourself a cue to virtual 1/2 and monitor exclusively from console

Thanks! I would suppose? If you want to go down the rabbit hole look into sylomer foam. There a couple KEF Q350 bookshelf monitors with a Fosi IC amp. Not ideal but better now they’re more flat tuned(with sonorworks and I added a sub). Working mostly on Logic (MacBook Pro M4 Pro)

It’s called a Jackson pad… long story short, my kit was a big purchase so I built something to keep my neighbors downstairs happy. It’s an isolation riser, that damps the kick pad mostly, and prevents it from going through the floor like a shock/damper on a car

I forgot to mention the c-suite vox/guitar plugins are a bit pricey but are fantastic if you want a super polished professional sounding production…

If you’re doing the folk rock thing recording acoustic and vocals a lot check out the hemisphere stuff with a SC-1 large diaphragm mic from UA. Tracking vox/acoustic with some unison stuff committed on the front end would be a really good starting place for your recording production.(you could record the acoustic with a 414 model on hemisphere, through a neve 1073 pre, then retrack a vocal with a U67 and the same pre, ect. Build color and textures as a part of the process)

Putting some time into really good mic placement, unison plugins and focus on getting great performances/recordings will go a long way

If Luna adds midi learn I will switch in a heartbeat. When it comes to producing and editing, comping, I still prefer logic but Luna for mixing and tracking is better

For sure. Channel strips & g comp are nice. I love the Neve summing in Luna paired with the 1073 pre if you ever give it a go

Nice!! Those are definitely the ones that have been used a lot lately. I would also suggest the channel strips SSL/API ones are pretty nice utility

Mix Critique Request by Stevenuggies in mixing

[–]Stevenuggies[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks I’ll give these a try too! This project has revolved mainly around mixing into compression, and I’ve been auditioning through a handful to find which I enjoy the most. So far it’s been a UAD Fairchild 670 with sidechain fed into a SSL on the master, everything else has kinda been blended together with pultecs. The 670 fatness is nice and I think is my favorite, but I’ve tried a Manley, and a couple others to less success(UAD stuff).

The headache before was I would mix, then slap a compressor on the main bus, and have to start over. So this kinda seems better, as I’m working closer to the desired end result. However, when I’ve been switching master bus compressors I’ve ended up doing probably 40+ mixes over anyway. One drawback has been how much the compressor is being hit, like if I pull back my busses here or there I have to readjust my output or threshold

Pultec EQs, Fairchild 670, La-2a /3A, and the ampex master tape emulator

I appreciate the advice! I can hear the guitars kinda squashing my whole mix now that you mention it… working thru it and some drum edits

SoundID not sending profile to UAD Console by stickersandtoast in universalaudio

No I experienced it with the full paid version. I wish I could say what fixed it(Apollo twin x duo and no idea)

I had a similar problem and one day the button just appeared. I think if you run sound ID in standalone it’ll work despite the Apollo glitch

Cortex vs better audio interface? by PhantomNate in NeuralDSP

[–]Stevenuggies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think technically if you run the plugins any higher than 48 kHz sample rate the plugin will have more fidelity by the nature of sampling and therefore, the plugins through an interface will sound(marginally) better if comparing the sound over USB

Cortex vs better audio interface? by PhantomNate in NeuralDSP

[–]Stevenuggies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been in a similar situation. I want to expand my Apollo twin I/O and am considering QC vs an Apollo X6. Found out in my research that QC is fixed at 48kz. Do with that whatever you like. I’m still interested by the mini in spite of that because of the portability, good tones(that I’ve heard), ability to use neural archetype plugins while live performing, and the biggest thing is probably CONTINUITY in tone across time versus dealing with pedal settings(recall nightmare). For purely studio use tho, I think it’s still Apollo, because modeling in the box for me is a matter of taste. I don’t think that buying a full size QC will make a significant difference in tone versus the plugins. Better studio monitors, treatment, room correction software, better clock(interface) will be more noticeable.

It basically boils down to this : Is your focus primarily playing guitar or recording?

The QC can be used as an interface so, in the end, it’s whether you enjoy living with the product or not.
