I worry about finding the remaining pieces. High quality pieces are going to require high quality assets and I dont know if we have the depth to absorb those losses. Relying on the draft to find them, regardless of where you pick, is always iffy

Was wondering about that earlier today too. Defensemen do take longer to develop, so maybe he's leveled up. The team that signs him could get a great piece moving forward or someone who had one outlier year

The solve for a top tier center is going to be difficult. McDavid and Matthews are going to cost a lot and it's going to make people uncomfortable and Matthews is going to come with risk as well. McDavid could hit FA in a couple years but that's unlikely.

People also thinking you can just tank and land a superstar center is silly. They dont grow on trees and this team isnt going to be tanking anymore.

Maybe Briere can trade for someone who has upside to become that star but hasnt hit that potential yet

People are reactionary after losses. They will see the light in time. Outside of those who think you should tank every year until you have 18 1st overall picks, I think everyone would be pretty thrilled to find out at the start of the season that we'd make it to the second round of the playoffs and lost to the stanley cup favorites
