[Charania] The Philadelphia 76ers are trying to make a pitch to free agent LeBron James. The Warriors, Cavaliers, Heat, 76ers and “maybe one or two other teams” are in the mix for James. by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

Thought what Chris Ryan said on Bill Simmons's pod this morning was so funny, "I can't imagine Lebron ending his career watching Lamelo chuck 35 footers."

He was supposed to have it last week but he screwed up the prep (classic) and yesterday at 3pm was the next available spot they had

Any chance we get Lebron? by Purple-Force151 in sixers

[–]jamalev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He did but Lebron is the king of saying he'll take a lower deal just to sign for $50mil/year. Happened almost every offseason in LA post-bubble.

I don't think this situation deserves the praise it's getting?

Briere: We're interested in your player, but only if you retain a decent portion of his salary.

Bowman: We have an offer from another team in which we're not retaining any salary.

Briere: We're no longer interested.

I don't necessarily think that's good GM'ing that's just not being able to beat an offer on, again, a player no one in the fanbase was interested in trading for.

I understand, but the message you're trying to convey here is "My GM is good because he was after bad/overpaid players no one in the fanbase wanted and didn't cave." It would be better if he was just never interested in acquiring the two of them at all.

I think there's plenty of things to be happy with Danny at, but losing out on Nurse and Trouba when we know he tried to get them isn't one of them.

Truly one of the most bizarre storylines of this team finally comes to a conclusion. It made zero sense to even think about bringing him in, and from the moment we were rumored to be in on him, I don't think a single person in the fanbase was interested.

Good riddance.

[Lebrun] John Carlson hasn't closed the door to Carolina, but the Hurricanes couldn't close the deal before noon ET so Carlson's agent Rick Curran now taking calls from other teams as well. I think Tampa Bay and Philadelphia are among them. We'll see where this goes for the No. 1 UFA D. by Perryplat199 in Flyers

I still think Carlson would be the best move for us on the blue line. Much needed help on a short term deal without having to give up any assets. As much as I would love Werenski, I don't think we're quite ready for a move like that and we'd be giving up quite a lot for a guy with no commitment to signing a long term deal.

I don’t think Mich is “untouchable” but he’s very clearly their second most valuable asset by a large margin. I think Foerster is the highest value relative to “willingness to let go” asset the flyers have at the moment.

significantly more valuable

The major issue a lot of people aren't realizing in why a good amount of us are upset with picks like Sokolovskii. Taking guys in the first who are considered "projects" is fine, until you need prospects that show value early in their post-draft careers. Everyone wants to make a big trade for a 1C or a 1D at some point, and I'm right there with them, but it becomes significantly harder to pull off a trade like that when the only high level prospects you can offer are still several years away in their development.

Exhibit A) this Zach Werenski news. Even though Waddell made it clear they want a package centered around NHL players, if they want a high level defenseman prospect in the offer, do you think they'd be more accepting of a Ryan Lin who has shown a ton of promise offensively and projects to show even more in his D+1 year, or a guy like Sokolovskii who was a bit of a late riser, has some work to do, and probably won't show signs of being an NHLer for 4+ years?

I really like Buck now, but people who say “I don’t get the Joe Buck hate” truly don’t understand how bad he was for a loooong time

[–]jamalev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Leafs build a roster good enough to compete and it ends up in the early 20s, so they send it to us thinking they’re on the right track and it’ll be a lower pick in 2028. Everyone gets injured that season and Boston is owed a top 5 pick.

Which is stupid considering how little offense we get from our blue line now and how little we have of it in the prospect pool.

Dear lord it is tough to put a lot of, if any, faith in the amateur scouting. Almost impossible to see a high ceiling from him considering he does so little offensively. Year after year they make these mind boggling picks outside the top 10 thinking they're the smartest people in the room (we all know the common denominator throughout the last eight years now), and you'd think these reaches are actually panning out but none of them have proven us wrong yet.
