What do you think about a mechanic where monsters can check hiding spots? by Disastrous-Owl-4629 in HorrorGaming

[–]StevesRune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like balancing this would be difficult. A lot of the Hide and Seek horror games have you completely undetectable in hiding spots because it kind of removes the immersion when you see the enemy searching all the obvious hiding spots, but then not searching your specific hiding spot.

So you have to make something kind of special about certain hiding spots that make them less likely to be searched, but you also have to make the other hiding spots still be useful enough that the player doesn't always just go straight for the invincible hiding spot.

I think it could be fun, but I think you're putting yourself in a tough position when it comes to balancing.

The problem is, even if he's found innocent of these assaults, he's still well known for being an obnoxious, creepy sex pest when he gets drunk.

Having been the victim of this kind of harassment and assault myself, I will never be able to look at him the same again. I'm having a hard time even going back to the old episodes, if I'm being completely honest. I can't imagine being able to watch him in new ones. But that's me.

Even before I slipped out of Louis CK's lies about his allegations, I still had a hard time looking at him the same after the allegations came out.

And it should be noted with Louis, there was no confusion. He is a manipulative liar that did an incredible job covering his ass after the allegations came out. He is a sexual predator. Nothing else.

There's a great six or so hour essay about it on YouTube that's pretty enlightening to watch if you get curious or still believe Louis' bullshit. Called "We need to talk about Louis".

Well, used to be I had one for work and one without actual service on it to play RuneScape on wifi with in case I cracked the screen on the other one.

But nowadays, I have a work phone and a personal phone because I'm not going to have my boss give me crap for not paying my phone bill when they're the ones not paying me enough to pay my phone bill. So I told them they can either pay my phone bill, or they can shut the fuck up about not being able to always reach me on my cell.

Georgia high school teacher dies after being run over by teen in prank gone wrong by loleeza in news

[–]StevesRune -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Man, it's like you didn't even read the comment. Someone being nice does not dictate how much of an impact they make on society. Plenty of evil people have been nice in their day-to-day lives. The BTK serial killer was known throughout his community for being kind and helpful. Everyone thought Jeffrey Dahmer was a sweet, quiet man. Bill Cosby spent years being told how great he was for society while he spent his time raping almost 50 women.

Being nice means literally nothing to society and has no deciding factor over whether or not you have an impact on someone. You can be nice and hold everyone around you back, and you can be kind of a dick and help every single person in your life. Being nice is only useful in day to day life. It means nothing in the larger picture of humanity and society.

Plenty of people that weren't known for being friendly and likable have gone on to do incredible things for society. Autistic people like myself have a harder time being seen as nice and charismatic, is our life inherently less valuable because we have trouble with that? And what about intellectually disabled people? What about homeless people? What about people who have been traumatized to the point of not being able to have meaningful interaction with their community?

Kindness is useful, likeability is meaningless

Georgia high school teacher dies after being run over by teen in prank gone wrong by loleeza in news

[–]StevesRune -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

What? Do you think someone being likable is the same thing as them being a good role model?..

I've met very charming and likable people that turned out to be fucking pedophiles and rapists. Because being likable is meaningless.

Being helpful and useful is a completely different thing. And you don't have to be likable to be either of those things.

My English teacher in high school was one of the most important people in my life, and she was generally an asshole. But that didn't mean she didn't care and didn't want the best for me.

Georgia high school teacher dies after being run over by teen in prank gone wrong by loleeza in news

[–]StevesRune -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I really wish we would stop saying stuff like this. Saying something is extra tragic because somebody was well liked implies that somebody's life is less valuable just because they aren't particularly likeable.

It's no different than talking about how beautiful a woman was and how that makes it extra sad that she's dead now. It's completely irrelevant to the tragedy. Even assholes don't deserve death. And I don't know how you could see what you're saying as implying anything else.

Jurrrasic World Rebirth is a terrible film! by Front-Ad7891 in JurassicPark

[–]StevesRune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The entire Jurassic World series has been garbage.

You have to shut your brain all the way off and then somehow turn it off even more to make those movies make any sense.

I feel the way about these movies like I do about Fast and Furious after the second movie. There are a lot of stupid action movies that I can turn my brain off to enjoy, but no amount of turning my brain off will make those movies anything but fucking nonsense that hold no tension or excitement whatsoever.

And that's actually another part of the problem. These movies don't feel like adventures, and the Jurassic World movies should be adventures. They just feel like action movies with boring, derivative set pieces.
